Mr. Jerz pinch hitting for Grave….

IMO, it’s time for Jose to go back to lead off.
I know the arguments of it shouldn’t matter and why it shouldn’t matter but the fact is he’s struggling – no matter what the reason. So if it’s in his head, why not take a shot at moving him? Reyes isn’t comfortable at all right now, making a base running mistake today probably b/c he’s trying desperately to help the team anyway he can since his bat isn’t helping right now.

Really, as a manager you should never be in a situation with men on base and you’re asking your third batter to bunt. Not when that guy is batting third b/c he’s supposed to be your best hitter. Jose on a good day is not technically this team’s best hitter.

And yeah, it was Jerry’s decision to have him bunt there. I’m sure he’s was thinking about that .230 BA Reyes has right now. I still wouldn’t have told him to bunt. Debating Jerry’s managerial decisions though is a discussion for another day.

Debating Jerry’s decisions’s is a discussion worthy of every day. I don’t get bunting with Reyes today in the 7th inning right after he just had a big double in his prior at bat. Really strange. Jose does what a 3 hitter has to do and doubles his prior at bat and then you have him bunting in his next at bat while only in the 7th. How can Jose get going with this cocamamy mind trip Jerry put’s him on. Jerry to Jose “I don’t want you to change your approach, but now I want you to give yourself up like a pitcher while batting in the 3 hole in only the 7th inning”. It makes my head hurt to even try to figure this out.

    2. Mr North Jersey

Lets see Reyes is batting .214 in May with 3 rbi’s in May.

You have to wonder if the best thing to do right now is put him where he feels comfortable which is the leadoff spot.

The only other 3 hitter to me is Wright.
In May Wright is hitting .333 with 6 rbi’s.

I can see putting Reyes back in the leadoff spot but if your going to fo that then I would also do the following.

      1. Reyes – have to hope he gets hot or else we are in trouble.

      2. Pagan – Pagan cant be dropped down at the bottom of order he is hitting .308 in May and has had a lot of big hits plus the 1,2 punch of Reyes/Pagan can be awesome.

      3. Wright – Yes he k’s like a son of a b*tch but who else can hit 3?

      4. Barajas – You have to break up wright and Bay with all the k’s they have and Barajas will at least put the ball in play.

      5. Bay – He has to get it going.

      6. Davis – Leave him alone

      7. Francoeur – What can i say he is not a 8 hole hitter.

      8. Castillo – is either a 2 hole or a 8 hole hitter he can get on base at least and clear the pitcher.

Are we seriously going to put a guy with an OBP under .300 in the #4 spot? Wouldn’t you rather have a guy that K’s a lot but has a better OBP over a guy that has a .250 OBP that puts it in play.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          yes

        2. Mr North Jersey

          no

        3. Mr North Jersey

          maybe

        4. Mr North Jersey

hahahahha, Right now I am just looking at it like this. Homerun hitter in cleanup spot and guy that puts ball in play rather than k’s.

          1. trs86

He’s just not a very good hitter though. Barajas best advantage for us is he has pop for a 7/8 hitter. You can’t have a guy with a .272 OBP and a career .283 OBP in the 4 spot.

          2. Mr North Jersey

I agree there is now way Barajas is ever going to hit cleanup. I am just having fun with the what ifs. It can’t get any worse that what we have seen with Jacobs batting cleanup. :-)

          3. trs86

I think at this point it’s ok to put Davis 4th
Pagan, Castillo, Wright, Davis, Bay, Frenchy, Barajas, Castillo/Cora.

          4. Mr North Jersey

It’s a lot for the kid so I can’t endorse it 100% but i understand the logic behind it.

          5. trs86

Yeah I agree that it is but I do think Bay and Wright need to be divided and to me this is the best way of doing it. Perhaps you could go unconventional and hit Pagan 4th.

          6. Mr North Jersey

            Here is uncoventional.

            Reyes
            Wright
            Pagan
            Davis
            Bay
            Francoeur
            Castillo
            Barajas

          7. trs86

            Yup, you got that right.

  2. koose

I’m starting to believe these nats area little better than we give them the credit for.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      welcome to my world.

          1. trs86

OK? I did. Nat still suck.

        2. Mr North Jersey

The Nats are saying hey if this is sucking then they will gladly suck all the way to October. :-P

          1. trs86

By the way they would miss the playoffs right now too.

          2. Mr North Jersey

I hope they miss the playoffs I don’t want to imagine them getting there and not us.

          3. trs86

Yup. That would be strange. Highly unlikely but stranger things have happen.

          4. Mr North Jersey

            :-)

    2. ceetar

you’ve got a typo in that sentence. i’ll fix.

“I’m starting to believe these nats are little better than we give them the credit for.”

      1. trs86

Hmmmm, little better. Maybe. Still not even sold there. I expected about 70-75 wins and I don’t see much more than that even now.

      2. Mr North Jersey

in case someone only reads spanish allow me to translate.

Yo estoy empiezando a creer que estos Nats son un poco mejor que nosotros le damos credito.

        1. trs86
