Carlos Beltran Runs Then Says: “Thank God There’s No Pain,”

What has to be music to the Mets ears Carlos Beltran started running this week with his new brace and in an an article by David Lennon of Newsday said “Thank God there’s no pain,”.

In the article Beltran says “It’s a learning process for me to start running again, so right now I’m thinking about how to make it perfect. Today was the first day I ran and didn’t have to think about it. I was happy with today. Today was a pretty good day.”

I’m with you. When they kick out a “now batting… Charles Beltran” then I’ll believe it.

        1. stickguy

Well NJ, they have to sign old charlie first, don’t they?

Oh wait, you meant Carlos, right?

Hey, just had to yank your Tx. chain a little.

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Since you are pretty close to port St lucie, can you put some high in his drinks without him knowing it? They can’t test this stuff anyways

      Welcome to a new member.

Good game in Colorado, Utley and Howard make errors, Halladay coughs up the lead, Durbin pitches to one batter, Olivo, in the bot-10, ball game.

    1. ceetar

and not to excuse Halladay, he pitched to a 2WHIP with 10 hits and 2 walks in 6.1.

His hands must have been cold…..

I was just being snarky. Should have put a smiley I guess.

  4. metsfan4decades

I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’s nothing but good news all the way up to seeing Beltran patrolling CF once again in about 5-6 weeks.

    Gee lit up again tonight.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Cohoon down in A ball and Carson in High A had good outings. Capt Kirk continues to rake.

      1. stickguy

cross Gee off the depth list. Right now, I think the Sp depth chart is Taka and Dickey. Maybe Misch if you get desperate.

Yeah, they need some more SPs brought in.

Of course, could always start getting Mejia ready.

and signing the Cuban guy would be a nice start too.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Well lets see if the Mets bid on the Cuban Maya now that he is close to being able to negotiate a deal.

        2. trs86

I still think as you know, that Snell would be a great pickup. I think something like Murphy and a AA guy gets it done.

          1. stickguy

if they get him cheap, worth a shot. Not that he has been particularly good for a while, and they won’t be controlling him look.

            maybe Warthen can “fix” him!

          2. trs86

Could be a chance to get the Perez contract right. Turn him around and let him go.

          3. stickguy

if they turn him around, keep him and let Perez go!

    Possible July Line Up?
Reyes, Tejada, Beltran, Davis, Bay, Wright, Pagan, Barajas

Enuff assumptions in there: Tejada Up, Davis proves out in 4 hole, Pagan takes over RF for slumping Frenchy? Frenchy as Defensive Specialist to Right, Pagan to CF late in games to rest Beltran. Yeah, I’m getting way ahead of myself…

    1. Mr North Jersey

      You think? LoL

If you have time, this is a very interesting post over on Amazin Ave breaking down DWright’s at bat swing and non swing selection this year. Gives this author’s very detailed analysis of what’s different this year from last possibly contributing to the high strike out rate.

An Analysis Of David Wright’s Pitch Recognition

    http://www.amazinavenue.com/2010/5/10/1466245/an-analysis-of-david-wrights-pitch#storyjump

    1. trs86

You know I was just about done reading articles on Dwright’s inabilities to hit but trusting your judgment I read this one and it’s pretty damn good. Here’s a good hook for those who have not read it.
“He also tends to swing and miss on the changeup more often than any other pitch. Overall Wright is giving up a lot of strikes by not swinging at good pitches, as well as swinging at low offspeed pitches.”

They have evidence to even back up that he is not getting killed by that slider away but it could be setting up the fb away that he is not swinging at. Interesting also that I read one of our guys say he can’t catch up to the FB but in reality the changeup gives him more problems…

      1. stickguy

This seems to be what we are seeing so much in those key spots:

” Pitchers may be setting him up with a slider outside and then throwing a fastball to the same location without the break. This means pitchers with a decent slider who can hit the outside corner of the plate can basically get a free strike out of David with a pretty high probability.”

and I loved his term “hojofication” Wish I thought of that one.

        1. trs86

I bet NJ loves that one.

  9. stickguy

well, damn it, Omar is asleep at the switch again.

Time redding was cut by the Rockies, and the Mets missed out on him, letting the evil empire swoop in and grab him.

Now we are doomed. Doomed, i tell you, doomed!
