Post Game: Mets Dont Like Rubbers

trojan22pack

The Mets are now 0-6 in rubber games this year, falling to the Washington Nationals 6-4. Francisco Rodriguez was brought into the game in the 9th to preserve a tie game but failed as he let up a 2 run home run to Roger Bernadina(his second of the game after entering with no home runs). Matt Capps was summoned for the ninth but he succeeded in protecting the Nationals lead in a 1-2-3 inning for the win.

Mike Pelfrey took the ball for the Mets today and got into trouble in the second inning. Adam Dunn greeted Mike with a double, Christian Guzman singled and Mike walked Willie Harris to load the bases with 0 out. Mike beared down to strike out Roger Bernadina and Wil Nieves but gave up a single to the pitcher Craig Stammen, which scored 2 runs. The Mets in what seems to be a daily occurrence, showed some of that grit. David Wright walked to start the bottom of the 2nd, followed by a hit by Ike Davis, ground out by  Jeff Francoeur to move the runners over and a walk by Rod Barajas. Mike Pelfrey got a measure of revenge by lacing the first pitch he saw for a single and Angel Pagan hit a sac fly to tie the game. However, Craig would get the last laugh in his duel with Pelfrey. Mike Pelfrey gave up Roger Bernadina‘s first career home run in the 4th and a double to Wil Nieves. Craig Stammen singled to shallow center to score Wil Nieves and the Nationals went up 4-2. The Mets flexed that grit muscle again in the 5th with a double by Angel Pagan, a single by Alex Cora to score Angel Pagan but a bad throw allowed Alex Cora to move to second. Jose Reyes worked a good at bat vs Stammen and laced a double down the right field line scoring Alex Cora and tying the game at 4-4. Jason Bay grounded into a fielders choice that made Jose Reyes out at 3rd. David Wright walked again and Ike Davis walked to make the bases loaded for Jeff Francoeur. Jeff Francoeur hit a rope to right that was snagged by what im sure will be a top 10 play of the night grab by Roger Bernadina to end the threat and the inning.

The Mets Bullpen...except Krod

The Mets/Nationals Bullpens...except Krod

The Mets and National bullpens matched zeros for the rest of the game until the top of the 9th. Francisco Rodriguez was put in a non-save situation and was asked to keep the game tied for a chance in the bottom of the 9th. Frankie got Adam Dunn to line out but let up a single to Christian Guzman. Frankie got Ian Desmond to fly out to center but left a ball in Roger Bernadina‘s wheelhouse for a homer deep to right center to put the Nationals up 6-4. Matt Capps came in and got Angel Pagan to strike out, Alex Cora and Jose Reyes to ground out for his 14th save of the season. The Mets have dropped 6 rubber games and head to Miami to take on the Florida Marlins next.

well, most of the Mets are playing like they have an STD, so I guess this makes sense…
