Post-Game: Marlins 7 Mets 2

Well the Mets did it, they made Anibal Sanchez look like Cy Young tonight.  The Mets dropped the second game to the Marlins in this 4 game set with an abysmal offense( 4 hits) and horrid starting pitching.

Oliver Perez made his bid to become the first 36 million dollar bat boy tonight by going just 3 1/3 innings, giving up 9 hits,  7 runs( three home runs) to Marlin hitters.  He did, however, manage to get through 2 innings without giving up a run so maybe Manuel will give him another shot.  At this point I think Charlie Brown would do better but hey I ‘m just a fan.  The Marlins sent 9 men to the plate in the bottom of the Third and pretty much took the Mets out of the game by scoring 4 runs.  Uggla hit a three run home run during that frame.  Oliver Perez would come out for the bottom of the 4th and get abused again as Uggla would hit his second home run (with a man on)and Coghlan would add one of his own.  Dan Uggla would finish with 5 RBIs tonight off of Perez.

From the 5th inning on, the Mets bullpen held the Marlins scoreless but the Mets did try to launch some type of offensive when they were able to put runner on base in the score 2 runs in the 5th off of a Pagan double but that pretty much was it, even though they were able to put runners on in the 6th, 7th and 8th, no one was able to drive them in.

As a side note, Reyes went 0-4 batting third, Wright went 0-3 with a walk, Frenchy went 0-4 and Bay was 1-3.  Thank god for Rod Barajas.

A couple of positives for the Mets again was their bullpen- Raul Valdes, Manny Acosta and Jenrry Mejia held the Marlins in check from the 4th inning on.

Tomorrow, the 18-18 Mets will send John Maine to the mound and try to right the Mets ship.

For anyone who didn’t catch SNY Post game, it was quite entertaining.

Ronnie pulled no punches. Said it was sad watching that ball game.
Said it’s time for the Mets to admit they made a mistake.
Said listening to Ollie’s post game interview he said he felt fine, he’s healthy. Ronnie said if so, that’s just scary because if he’s healthy and pitching like this there is no choice but to make a move. Send him to Buffalo. There’s a very good young pitching coach there who might be able to help him figure it out.

Ronnie was against Taka taking his spot b/c he’s too valuable in the BP right now – especially in light of the fact that none of the starters are going very deep in games right now.

And Ollie’s interview? They flat out asked him if he thought his spot in the rotation was in danger. He said that’s not his decision to make. He just has to keep trying, keep working. Said it’s a long season, every ML pitcher has bad outings, not just him and he won’t quit.

Jerry said he won’t comment much tonight. Said he’ll talk to Ollie then all the powers that be will sit down tomorrow and discuss all options, make a decision.

I don’t really know what to say right now. I’m passed the point of it being about the money. If Ollie doesn’t understand that he’s really just this awful so far this year, then sending him to Buffalo to work on anything is going to be a stretch.

well, a pitcher should stay positive after a bad outing. and of course he is going to say he will work hard to try and improve and do better.

what really counts though is what Omar and the FO think, but they seem to have gone into radio silence.

Well we lost Ollie didn’t have it yet again. It is now 3 of last 4 starts that he cant give Mets even 4 innings.

The Highlight of the night was actually the post-game. Ron Darling was dropping bombs all over the place. I kept wait for the “Were sorry we are experiencing technical difficulties splash screen to appear”.

Here is some of what Darling said thanks to mostly 4D and me to a smaller extent that was typing it in as fast as she could in the dugout for those that didn’t have SNY to read.

Darling: You’ve really run out of excuses. Doesn’t matter how much money you’re paying him. He doesn’t belong here

Darling: 88mph fastball is not gonna make it

Darling: he’s not like a Moyer or Glavin though. He’s not making the adjustments like those finesse pitchers did

Darling: I think you’re at the point where you have to say we made a mistake. Send him to Buffalo

Darling: Maybe a fresh start will help. But it can’t be done at the major league level

Darling: Mets are at a point where they have to face it and say they made a mistake signing Ollie

Darling: Mets are the swing n miss team of baseball

sometimes, a team gets an infection. If a quick hit of antibiotics cures it, great. If not, it spreads, and can infect the entire team and drag it down.

Ollie, and IMO Jerry are that type of infection, and need to be excised somehow before they kill the entire team.
