According to the far-too-many beat writers I follow on twitter, tonight’s lineup subs Chris Carter in at right field in lieu of the ailing Jeff Francoeur. This is the second straight day with Carter in RF and Frenchy on the benchy.
So the player the Mets organization didn’t even want on the big league team come April 5th, suddenly went from AAA player to the team’s best option for clean-up.
Color me befuddled.
Nothing against Carter – I like his style, but is he suddenly a clean-up hitter? The guy’s a career AAAA player, and no team wanted him to start this season, and he’s batting clean-up with Beltran the only missing link in the lineup?
I’m not even sure if that’s the biggest story, because Jeff being out of the lineup for the second straight day is pretty telling. If Carter racks up a couple hits today, would anyone be shocked to see him starting tomorrow’s game as well? Could Francoeur’s job be on the line?
What do you guys think? Have you all had enough of Francoeur’s disappearing act?
