Ok...this guy potentially had a worse day
David Wright‘s throwing error cost the Mets the ballgame, allowing the game winning run to come across for the Braves. Baseball fans were treated to a classic pitching duel in Turner Field. Johan Santana and Kris Medlen matched zeros for the first 2 innings, making it look like runs were going to be at a premium. Johan let up a single to Chipper Jones in the 3rd with 2 out and Troy Glaus happily brought him in with a 2 run home run to put the Braves on the board first. The Mets answered back with some home runs of their own, one a piece by Ike Davis and home town boy Jeff Francoeur to tie up the game 2-2.

Fast Foward to the bottom of the ninth since the Mets and Atlanta bullpens dominated each other until then. Pedro Feliciano let up a single to Brian McCann. The Braves pinch ran for Mccann and the Mets subbed out Pedro for Jenry Mejia. Mejia ended up walking Yunel Escobar, moving Brent Clevlen to 2nd. Mejia got Melky Cabrera to ground to David Wright who threw wide to 1st base and allowed Clevlen to trot home for the winning run. Not only did Davids throw cost them the game, he went 0-4 with 3 strike outs. David Wright now has 58 strike outs, Jerry hinted about a day off for Wright in the near future.

You’ve got a runner on second with no outs. You have three chances to score a run on a hit. Instead, you decide to take two shots at making an out in the air (against a strikeout pitcher). What sort of message does that send your players? You’re suggesting you don’t think they can get a hit. It suggests the focus should be on making contact, instead of just getting a hit. There is such a thing as overthinking and overtrying for one specific outcome that it actually hurts you.

Also, Manuel should give him a day off. He’s going to beg to be in the game tomorrow. Does Manuel have the authority or control to enforce a day off?

Manual said he’s giving him a day off in the Nats series. Said ‘probably tomorrow’.
Bobby O’s opinion was that’s the wrong day. Said Livan’s 78MPH fastball with his low pitching style plays right into Wright’s game. Said let him bat against Livan, see if he can get it going.

Let me start out by saying: ‘FIRE HOJO’.
Nice game by Johan. Too bad they couldn’t get him any runs.
Wright might have cost them this game but my heartache with him tonight (as in many nights) was not so much that throw in the bottom of the 9th with 2 on and no outs but the 3 strikeouts – again.
This offense is beyond imaginable. Wright and Bay and Reys and Franceour – did they all forget to hit? How about a sac fly even? Putting the bat on the ball and making contact? It’s seriously out of hand. I know Franceour hit a HR tonight (after going like 0 for 20) and I know Bay was out of the lineup tonight. Exactly why Bay was out when he at least has an 11 game hitting streak going is another head scratcher.
Sometimes it’s hard being a Met fan…

well, Hojo might be an effective hitting coach, but he must be persuasive.
since most of the team seems to have adopted his old approach. Huge swings, all or nothing hacks, and no concept of going with the pitch or situational hitting.
Notice the only guys that seem to have a plan and any situational plan are the new guys just called up?
Hell, bring up the AAA hitting coach. He must be doing something right!

Does Wright get minus 3 MUAs for today? Seems about fair.
So, is this win a game, lose a game, keep having the same issues, and float along at ~.500 going to be the theme? Or is their a chance that the right moves and/or guys getting their shat together could kick start a decent winning stretch?
I still think they can put together the good stretch, and get up to the high-80s at least in wins, but they need to get started soon.
I’m just worried about how low they will be late next week, after the Phils and Yanks. For some reason, I think they will be at least 3-3 at home for those games, with an outside chance at 4-2. Not sure why, just a hunch.
Of course, also a real chance they get smacked around and end up 0-6, 1-5, and if that happens, Jeffy will be having another presser before Memorial day.
I really can’t believe that all the drama and mental issues (which I consider a big part of DWs issues, along with the stunning lack of situational awareness) from last year are still going on. Well, I can believe it, because I pin a lot of that right back on the field management and coaches.
Should have just taken the easy out this week and cleared out jerry and the gang. Also a given it happens anyway, and probably year end, so why wait until the end of this month? Just for more “cover” if they fall farther behind?

OK, LoDuca was a huge leader of the 2006 team and a huge steroid guy.
Maybe, in 2006–2007, one or more of Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Maine, Perez, Sanchez and/or who knows who else may have been using PEDs.
Maybe THAT is where Reyes and Wright’s offense, Beltran’s health, Sanchez’s career, and Perez and Maine’s fastballs went.

And let’s not forget Mota.
There is an angle for some enterprising journalist to examine.
Sure as hell would explain a lot of things.

The problem is clearly Dirty & Gonzo, this team goes 1-6 when they fill in for me.
Just kidding guys you do excellent work, the Mets could learn from your ethic and dedication.
Except David Wright, he needs to follow my example and take a little time off.

Another streakey player added to an almost entire team of streaky players. No surprise to me Davis does this from time to time pressing and trying to get the team started in a week he will get through this but the team will still suck.Face it guys maybe their not a last place team but no way in hell are they a first place team.same team different year, enjoy the wins when they come brush off the losses,if the players can do it we can too.
