This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty – The ” Send In The Clowns” Edition 05-18-10

If I was going to fire Jerry I should have done in last season ” – Jeff Wilpon
Sounds like Jeff Wilpon was in a roundabout way was saying that he screwed up – but is too head strong to right that wrong by dismissing Jerry Manuel thus far. If you were hiding under a rock for the last 24 hours let me fill you in on the events of yesterday. First off Jeffy, Omar and Assistant G.M. John Ricco ( or is it Curley, Moe & Larry?)wasted precious jet fuel to give possibly doomed Mets manager either a pep talk – or in my opinion a ultimatum to get this ship righted or else Jerry along with most of his coaching staff will be made to walk the plank ( I love pirate cliches!) . But it is funny, even with the team suddenly in a crisis situation, Jeff still comes across as a unaffected middle aged man with a silver spoon in his mouth. Look I give him credit for actually addressing the current malaise that this team is in, and I’m sure that he cares not only about the profitability of this team. I just feel that Nelson Doubleday was right when he said – and im paraphrasing here – that Jeff wants to prove that he is a G.M.- and he will run this team into the ground. So was Jeff smart by doing this? He knows that the fan-base is looking for blood , and it did seem that during the closed door hour and a half meeting that us fans were going to get what we were demanding. But Jeff and Omar proved to be that 16 year old girl with that you take to the prom and expect to go all the way with – but she ends up being a tease ! I don’t know what Jeff was thinking – or if he even carefully thought this out, but I do believe the Mets fan base is even angrier at management and ownership – irregardless that the Mets won. And I found it odd that Omar gave no interviews to the press ( if he did I didn’t see it). Could this mean that Jeff is now unhappy with Omar’s acquisitions from this past off-season? And has stripped of even more power- and is now truly a puppet G.M if you will ? Only Jeff , Fred, Omar and the Shadow knows for sure. But on a positive note, the Mets squeaked by the Braves last night 3-2 on a good pitching performance by Mike Pelfrey along with clutch hitting by Rod Barajas. And I finally get mt wish -Yes it was announced that Jennry Mejia was optioned down to the minors to be stretched out as a starter (I guess Jerry lost that battle).

” John, Jeff & Omar during happier times”

And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

Today is the birthday of the second most hated General Manager in Mets history – Steve ” Douche-bag”Phillips is 47 (1963). Oh yes Steve you rank Just after M. Donald Grant and just before Omar Minaya, but you will always be known as the smug jerk that didn’t want to trade for Mike Piazza, refused to sign Alex Rodriguez on ” principle“, almost traded David Wright for Jose Cruz Jr. and you have proven time after time that you are a lowlife that cheats on your wife. And you are obvious with your biasness against the Mets , You sir ( if you actually read this) MAKE ME SICK !!!

Journeyman pitcher – Nelson Figueroa is 36.(1974) I like, respect and admire Nelson’s tenaciousness in his time with the Mets. He pitched his heart out and should have been treated better by this organization, but I feel he was a AAAA pitcher at best, and I wish him well in Philly. Nelson you have joined the ranks of the beloved super scrubs such as Joe McEwing, Endy Chavez and Timo Perez.

And today’s Mo Vaughn tidbit of the day – Don’t call him fat  ! – he’s fluffy !

Maybe we are closer to shedding Manuel if he’s finally lost the Mejia battle.

no, I got ya, I just mean that if Jerry isn’t getting his way with Mejia, maybe it’s foreshadowing his release.

I kind of figured the Wilpon/Minaya meeting in Atlanta last night was to discuss the pitching situation only. Check back after the Yankees and Philly series…
