so I guess we find out this weekend if mejia or acosta goes down for Iggy.

    1. njstuckintx

Please please please be Mejia. Instill some faith in me that the FO knows what is going on and what to do.

Unrelated: Does anyone know how to see how many lineup iterations Jerry has used this season?

    1. trs86

How many games have we played?

      1. prismo

        Haha, 40. I know it’s close to that…almost definitely in the 30s.

    2. trs86

Actually believe it or not the most awesome stat site on the planet has this info:
      25 total batting orders
This being your most common at 8 games, the rest are 3 games or less.
      # Pagan
      # Castillo
      # Reyes
      # Bay
      # Wright
      # Davis
      # Francoeur
      # Barajas

      1. prismo

What site? I want to compare that to other teams!

        1. prismo

          I found it.

      2. prismo

        Phillies: 15
        Florida: 21
        Braves: 28
        Nationals: 34

So believe it or not, the Mets are in the middle of the pack! At least in the NL East

        1. trs86

Yeah too bad the most used lineup was the one no one liked.

      3. saltygary

Jeez I knew it was high but that is pretty wild. I would love to know how many iterations the ’86 team had, 3?

I thought I aways read that playes are more comfortable with stagnate lineups?

        1. prismo

          You’re going to be shocked!

’86 Mets had 93 iterations. The most common was only used 7 times.
          1 Dykstra
          2 Backman
          3 Hernandez
          4 Carter
          5 Strawberry
          6 Wilson
          7 Knight
          8 Santana

          1. saltygary

Holy Crap, I am! Are you getting this from baseballreference.com?

          2. prismo

            http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/1986-batting-orders.shtml

          3. saltygary

I think why I am shocked is the middle of the lineup was always the same of stache, kid, and straw always in the same spots.

          4. saltygary

The 2000 team had 118 different lineups with the most common at 9 games being:

            1 Mora
            2 Bell
            3 Alfonzo
            4 Piazza
            5 Ventura
            6 Zeile
            7 Payton
            8 Agbayani
            9 Pitcher

How the hell did that team make it to the series. The is a great work diversion.

          5. stickguy

3 4 5 and the pitching carried them

          6. saltygary

Alfonzo was my boy. Best 2 strike hitter in that era.

          7. saltygary

1999 was only 76 and the most common at 27 is:

            1. Henderson
            2. Alfonzo
            3. Olerud
            4. Piazza
            5. Ventura
            6. Hamilton
            7. Cedeno
            8. Ordonez
            9. Pitcher

This was a much better lineup with Olerud. Completely forgot about hamilton.

          8. stickguy

best 2-5 they probably ever had that year I think. Even better than 1986

          9. saltygary

            Your probably right.

            My Opinion Offensively:
            Alfonzo>Backman
            Olerud>Hernandez
            Piazza>Carter :(
            Ventura<Strawberry

Not to mention the best defensive infield in the history of the game

          10. ceetar

The Mets infield has already surpassed the 1999 version in errors.

          11. ceetar

Actually I’m wrong, only halfway there. 14, to 27.

          12. njstuckintx

Salty, I know Keith is big time legend now, but I still would prefer him. Less bat, but better D. agree on the others though.

          13. saltygary

Don’t know about having better D Olerud was pretty excellent. But I hear ya I think most of us hold Hernandez in higher regard over Olerud due to his history with the team.

          14. njstuckintx

If Ole had a Stache, he just may beat out Mex!

          15. saltygary

            oh case closed.

          16. njstuckintx

93? And you know why? It wasn’t all the tinkering, it was playing the best lineup with the players davey was putting out. With Jerry, it feels likes it all experiment, all the time.

          17. saltygary

Totally agree. Just throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks.

  3. ceetar

    Dickey is #43, btw.

    1. saltygary

What is how many pitches thrown in the 1st inning?

  4. GravediggerHebner

    Prismo

Given that we have a knuckleballer going tonight, any info on tonight’s wind speed and direction as it relates to Nationals Park’s home plate?

    1. prismo

Very light winds. They shouldn’t be a factor.

      1. stickguy

light winds? Probably because you won’t have all the breeze from the mighty swing and misses from DW tonight.

      2. GravediggerHebner

Well if the knuckler isn’t going to be helped by the wind I’ll take solace that it doesn’t sound like it will be hurt either.

        Thank you for the info!

        1. prismo

I decided not to go to the game tonight for no good reason.

Therefore, I’m sure the Mets will win in a blow-out.

          1. GravediggerHebner

What do you mean “no good reason?” The single of the cast of Glee with Neil Patrick Harris singing “Dream On” was just released.

Or it cold be Dickey’s 17.18 career ERA versus the Nationals, either reason seems good.

          2. saltygary

If your close tomorrow would be better due to weather and hopefully a better lineup.

          3. prismo

            I can’t. :(

My coworker is out for the day, and I have to cover til 10pm.

Otherwise I was planning on going and meeting up with a couple other Mets bloggers after the game. It sucks.

        2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Prismo, can you do the wind dance? I think it would go a long way to get a win tonight. Thanks!

    2. stickguy

I think he is going to the game. So maybe he can lick his finger, stick it in the air, then tweet about it?

  5. oleosmirf

Yunesky Maya is finally a free agent. too bad the Mets will likely pass

    1. metsfan4decades

I had read that earlier and they really better be taking a long look at him. With the state of our pitching, how can Omar not?

      1. oleosmirf

b/c its the Mets…rational thinking and common sense don’t apply

  6. prismo

Jerry: Ike to remain cleanup long-term
    (-Rubin)

    Uhhhh.

    1. stickguy

long term? In Jerryville, with the ADD, that is what, 2 games?

    2. trs86

      I don’t mind it.

      I would assume
Reyes, Castillo, Wright, Davis, Bay, Pagan, Barajas, Frenchy.

  7. Hazmet

    Miscellaneous Crap:

    http://www.theroot.com/views/how-sammy-sosa-went-back-black?gt1=38002

    Cue the AC/DC.

Oh my beautiful wickedness, oh what a world what a world…

  8. trs86

LOL, on Metsblog there are some posters who think we should trade Wright for Lee. One even brought his wealth of knowledge into the discussion by saying Wright alone could not get Lee. I swear some Mets fans are embarrassing.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Why even bother with such stuff?

All Blogs are full of people with idiotic trades.

      1. Hazmet

Yeah yeah, like Ollie Perez for Hanley Ramirez j/k

        1. Mr North Jersey

          lol

    2. metsfan4decades

Or Carlin and Shein on the Loudmouths saying if Omar was smart, he’d pick the phone up right now, call the Marlins and offer Reyes for Ramirez straight up.

Yup, just what we need another head case.

I’ll give them two points though for saying no to a Wright/Ramirez trade. But the reason they gave for not making this trade is the same reason they should not do the Reyes one: ‘Ramirez has big character issues and you don’t trade a struggling talent for one of close to better talent for a guy with this type of character issues’.

      1. trs86

Uh, I trade Reyes for Ramirez anytime but you guys already know that.

        1. metsfan4decades

Not with Jerry as manager. If Freddie can’t keep him under control, it’s a sure bet Jerry isn’t going to be able to.

          1. trs86

All I can say is that out of control guy hit .342 .410 .543 .954 last year with 24 HR and 27 steals.

        2. Hazmet

As a diehard Reyes fan, it pay’s me to agree. Realistically, that’s probably not enough to get it done.

          1. Hazmet

            *pains me

          2. trs86

He’s no where near enough to get it done.

          3. saltygary

I would get that done in a heartbeat. Maybe if they throw Dickey and Ollie into the mix to spice it up.

  9. metsfan4decades

LOL – Carlin’s goat on Loud Mouths is Phillies skipper Charlie Manual.
–For leaving his ace out there for a complete 126 PC game against the Pirates – in May.
Said he knows he’s a work horse but there is absolutely no reason you need to leave him out there this early, with that high of a PC against the Pirates.

I’m wondering if it wasn’t a little bit padding his stats for complete games or the state of their BP – or a bit of both.

    1. trs86

I think it was just he’s your ace you leave him out there. If anything in a close game with RH on the mound why would you pull him for one of those bp guys?

      1. metsfan4decades

Well, I wouldn’t with the state of Phillies BP either but I still say that arm is gonna fall off sooner rather than later…..

        1. Hazmet

I looking forward to the second half rematch of Johan vs. Halladay. Get him on Johan’s second have turf dominance where Doc’ is a first half pitcher. Bizzare letting him go that deep against the Pirates considering the Phils are pretty well entrenched in first with a 4 game lead in May. Well, entrenched as far as May can be considered.

          1. metsfan4decades

Well, since the Phills count on the long ball so much to score runs, I’m looking forward to a rematch at Citi field too.
