Seriously? “News: Pridie, Tejada, Thole and Green Injured at Buffalo”

This from Michael Baron at Metsblog:  News: Pridie, Tejada, Thole and Green Injured at Buffalo

How many times does that even happen?  4 guys injured in the same game?

I didn’t know about any of the other guys but I had read late last night that Thole had left the game after slipping/tripping over a bat while attempting to make a defensive play.

Yeah Pridie, pulled hamstring. Thole the bat, Green hit by pitch, Tejada dizziness.

With that many down, I was thinking bus accident.

well, I guess the good news is, none of the guys really were in the plans right now, 2 aren’t even real prospects, and 1 we never wan’t to see on the Mets again anyway.

Haven’t read the details, but likely 3 of them aren’t even serious. Pridie of course could be out for a while, but right now, I want Feliciano instead of GM anyway.

      It’s the other Green.

I still like Pridie and Tejada and think they could have roles on the Mets this year or next.

      1. stickguy

yeah, I saw that when I read the piece. Still, Andy is just filler.

Tejada could eventually have a role. he was on of the 2 guys I considered a prospect! But Pridie is more likely filler. Great defensive guy, but no bat or OBP.

so, if they end up with 3 strong everyday OFs, but could use a defensive replacement type (think Endy), then Pridie could have a role.

Just in case I somehow missed it has there been a roster move yet to create space for Dickey? (that’s what she asked)

I guess the possibilities are: Niese to DL; Mejia to minors; other?

    1. stickguy

have not seen it, but not much time left so it will be soon. ALthough I guess they really don’t have to make the move until just before game time?

Oh, the other option is Acosta down.

Might be a fine time to send down Mejia, since he just pitched, and they are going to be real short in the pen if they can’t use Taka, won’t use Ollie, and Mejia shouldn’t be going!

Dickey may have to pitch a CG, even if he gives up 15 runs. Even though it will kill Jerry to let it happen.

actually, most likely if Dickey gets shelled early, you see Ollie in an extended mop-up stint.

yeah, they’ve haevn’t announced what they’re doing yet. Maybe with Jeff back in NY they’re confused.

should be soon, theoretically they won’t wait until last minute.

        1. trs86

Well it sure looks like they are waiting until last minute.

Hey, a player is availible. If they sign him today, maybe he can be available to take the start on Friday (j/k, kinda). But if nothing else, instant MiL SP depth, which they badly need.

“28–year-old Cuban RHP Yunesky Maya has been cleared to sign as a free agent with any MLB team, according to Jorge Ebro from El Nuevo Herald”

I was just reading about that. Of course the headline is “Maya available, Yankees interested.”

Nonetheless I am intrigued by Maya. During the past off-season I had much more interest in Maya than in Chapman. Not because I know anything about their respective abilities, how could I really, but because it appeared Maya would come cheaper and was closer to major league ready (older more experience). I have no idea if they might be but I hope the Mets are at least talking with him/his representatives.

Somewhat related, the MLB Network guys last night were talking about Chapman and basically said that purely as a pitcher (you know, on the mound throwing to batters) he’s MLB ready right now but the reason the Reds have him in the minors is because he is noticeably lacking in every other aspect of the game. Apparently he can’t bunt or hit at all (even for a pitcher) and is poor at fielding his position, specifically doesn’t know how to cover bases and things of that ilk. So essentially he’s in the minors because they are turning him from a pure pitcher into a baseball player. Whether any of these concerns would lie with Maya too I cannot say.

      1. stickguy

gotta figure that at age 28, he should have a lot more of the basic stuff figured out.

but even if he sucks at the ‘fundies, he will fit right in!

I can’t make one of those fancy posts with the image of the actual tweet like Mr. NJ can, but Kevin Burkhardt says this:

Mets lineup-Ike to cleanup: Reyes SS. Castillo 2B. Bay LF. Davis 1B. Pagan CF. Francoeur RF. Tatis 3B. Blanco C. Dickey P

    1. GravediggerHebner

Oh and in case anyone is wondering I chose Burkhardt’s tweet over anyone else’s because it happened to be at the top of the page when I looked. :-)

      1. njstuckintx

Right… Kevin McDreamy on the top of your page? Very Interesting… :-D

        1. GravediggerHebner

Well he is dreamy but I don’t have a twitter account. His tweet just happened to be at the top of sportspyder when I went there, that’s my story and I’m dreamily sticking to it.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

            Okay…. sure…

    2. ceetar

so you like the way he looks too huh?

    3. metsfan4decades

I just have to laugh…didn’t take them long to put Davis as clean up, did it?
So whose turn is it tomorrow?

I take it Barajas is still sick since he’s out of the lineup again. Either that, or Blanco has more experience catching a knuckle ball.

      1. prismo

Blanco caught Dickey in spring training. :)

        1. trs86

Is there a cure for that?

  6. stickguy

wait, what happened to Carter? I guess Jerry’s interest has gone elsewhere.

    1. njstuckintx

Carter is the offense replacement, to be brought in roughly 2 innings prior to being needed. And asked to bunt.

    2. trs86

      I am guessing it could be Frenchy’s: .400 .500 .867 1.367 and 2HR in 18 PA vs Livan?

      1. njstuckintx

Is there a break down on if those are pre-allstar game Livan or post-allstar game Livan at bats.

      2. stickguy

but I thought the only stat Jerry knew was which side a pitcher threw with, and which side a hitter hit frmo?

that other stuff, way too technical.

        1. trs86

If it was just that then most likely Carter would be playing.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

Carter went 0 for 3 yesterday, so Jerry riding the hot bat of Frenchy today. I’m surprised Frechy is not batting 3rd.

Carter might get sent down to AAA if he keeps this poor performance.

      1. trs86

        Yeah, this poor performance: .308 .357 .462 .819

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

You know how Jerry likes to ride the hot bat…
