Man Up Awards For Wednesday Night

Phillies Mets Baseball

Boy, doesn’t it seem as if every year the Mets have one or a few guys that step up after a disaster. Last year it was Fernando Nieve and Omir Santos, this year it seems to be Hisanori Takahashi, R.A. Dickey and Angel Pagan. Takahashi went 6 innings with 6 punch outs. Hisanori has a 2.13 ERA this season, I dont remember who Takahashi is replacing in the rotation but whoever it is, take your time coming back.

Phillies Mets Baseball

I think its safe to say that Jose Reyes might be back. Jose went 2-4 with 2 RBI and his first home run of the year. Jose was looking like a shell of his former self up until this series where he has flourished. Reyes has his speed back, his bat is waking up and he has been making great plays, like the leap to catch the line drive from Greg Dobbs that ended the game. Jose was once the most electrifying players in the National League, its looking like he is trying to regain that title.

HONORABLE MENTION

The Mets bullpen has kept the Phillies scoreless for 6 innings

Rod Barajas has been punishing the Phillies, he went 1-3 with 3 RBI’s

Angel Pagan went 2-4 with 2 stolen bases

Luis Castillo didnt have a hit but stole two bases

Takahashi has been terrific. Dickey has been extremely good as well. Hopefully this means Maine and Ollie are finally gone from the rotation

Ahh and with back to back shutouts the cracks start to show.

    A quote from beerleaguer.com

I am so upset with this team. Utley needs to go. We need to get some fresh faces. Werth is going to walk and Ibanez can’t play. J-Roll can’t stay healthy and Halladay is the only bright spot we have. Vic isn’t his usual self and I think our catching situation is terrible. This team is horrible. Trade Utley now while we can still get something for him.

For every disgruntled idiot Mets fan, there’s one from Philly as well!

      “Utley needs to go?” Wow.

I think as Keith demonstrated in that replay of his foot not turning toward the pitcher during his swing that Utley’s hip is bothering him. Didn’t he previously have surgery on it?

      1. Mr North Jersey

yes he did I believe. Actually I think Keith even said he did yesterday.

This article details what led to his last hip surgery. I wonder if he has a similar issue again.

His current numbers are all on par with his typical season, in fact his OBP & SLG exceed his career averages.

If so then I have to guess that 2nd time around it can’t be easier.

LOL – entertaining myself reading these posts right now myself.

I have to wonder if the Phils fans had any idea what they were getting in Schneider. They should all surprised at the stolen bases he couldn’t throw out tonight.

I think technically Takahashi is replacing Niese, he came on for Niese in the game in which Niese got injured and has been pitching on his turn since then. That was also the last time Takahashi gave up a run. But even when Niese comes back I believe Takahashi will stay in the rotation.

I know we don’t necessarily believe everything Jerry says but in tonight’s post game he did respond to a direct question along the lines of: “Is Takahashi in the rotation?” by saying “Yeah, yeah he’s in the rotation. It’d be hard to get him out of there” or words to that effect.

In my mind Takahashi is replacing either Maine or Perez for the rest of time. Whichever one of those guys I don’t really care. I mean neither any disrespect but if I never see either start a game for the Mets again I’ve already made peace with that.

Yes, Takahashi officially took Niese’s spot in the rotation when he went down. I agree that Taka is probably officially in the rotation, not to be removed anytime soon, even when Niese comes back. It would be foolish to remove him, considering Niese should be back shortly and I don’t think even if Taka loses his next start they’ll deem him ‘ineffective’….

Posted this on the last thread: Jerry announced tonight that Nieve is the probably starter for Saturday’s game.

      1. GravediggerHebner

Nieve starting that game doesn’t make any sense to me, but I know I’m not the first person to be befuddled by one of Jerry’s decisions.

He’s not stretched out, Valdes is. Nieve’s worst start last season was at Milwaukee, 3 1/3 IP 11 hits 1 walk somehow only 3 runs.

Not to mention all the millage ALREADY on that arm, why put any more. I think Nieve better get familiar with labor laws…

Nats up 6-0 on Tim Lincecum in the 5th, the MLB Network guys are talking about Lincecum’s noticeable velocity loss.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Hope he is not hurt he is a great pitcher to watch when he is not facing us.

  5. oleosmirf

the rotation should be Santana-Pelfrey-Takahashi-Dickey-Niese until someone proves they dont belong. I dont care how much Ollie or Maine makes or if they are 100% healthy and ready to start.

And this from the Phillies closed door meeting.

“It’s not about losing or winning,” Victorino said. “It’s about losing the right way, conducting ourselves the right way. No reaming, no yelling at anybody, just understanding that he wants us to go out there and if we’re going to lose, lose the right way. Keep our heads up and keep plugging along. You know Charlie. He’s not going to get too deep. Just going to discuss the matter and go from there.”
