Captain Kirk needs to keep piling up some walks. Once he gets the plate discipline (walk rate/OBP) sorted out, he will be the complete package to replace Beltran when he moves on (if he hasn’t moved on already!)

Honestly, has anyone heard an update in the last month about Carlos? Last I heard, the brace worked, and he jogged pain free. And since once he could run, he was supposed to start BB activities for 4-6 weeks, has that happened? He should be getting close to rehab games by now theoretically.

At this rate, 4th of July is out, and the ASB is a long shot. How about the trade deadline as the over/under for his 1st appearance?

Shouldn’t they move him up to AAA soon? he is in AA, right?

      1. stickguy

he will probably be in AA for at least 1/2 the year, or until he starts walking more. Unless he gets some unbelieveable kind of hot right away.

        Aa if fine for now.

        1. trs86

Not only that but the OF is kind of full in AAA. Pridie, Feliciano, Fmart (when healthy).

          1. ceetar

It’s actually fairly empty right now though. Think there are only three guys there, 4 if you count Murphy.

          2. trs86

True but Fmart has to come back sometime right?

          3. ceetar

where have I heard that before?

      Remember my theory Stick.

Beltran is sipping fruity drinks under an umbrella while Boras calculates how long he can remain away from the team, while collecting his $18 mil salary.

This is just like last year’s situations—first he would be back in early May, then Memorial Day, now he is not even mentioned.

      August my friend.

      1. stickguy

1 more year, and bye bye Carlos. Good luck on getting that next big deal, at age 35 with no knee cartlidge left.

      2. ceetar

If he can come back Beltranesque by August 4th and not miss another day, I’ll live with it. That’s the start of the stretch run towards the playoffs and where things will start to be decided. 12 games against the Phillies remain from that point.

        1. trs86

To me we need him back right after the ASB. If not I don’t care if he comes back. You think he will just come back hitting?

          1. ceetar

well, true. I’m not banking on him at all. I want him back ,he’s a great player, he’s clutch, he’s a great guy, he’ a great fielder, etc etc. but I can’t do more than hope. But yes, I hope he’s “up to speed” or whatever term you want to use, for the August 4th series against the Phillies. That’s certainly a good target point for just about anything.

          2. trs86

Yeah, It’s almost like we just have to move on without him. Where if we get a chance to get a veteran LH RF as a rental we do it (if Carter does not hold up). I am growing tired of the Beltran situation. I am not buying conspiracy theories about him being out on purpose but I also don’t feel like the fans have a clue what is going on.

          3. ceetar

yeah, and us not having a clue leads to the conspiracy theories (And the media rarely helps)

I imagine we’ll have to find out soon what’s going on. but then, i’ve been saying that for a while.

          4. DNDJohan aka kistics

I disagree. Mets absolutely need him back soon. Beltran/Pagan/Bay would give you better offensive production than Pagan/Bay/Frenchy even if Beltran is not 100%. Also, adding him in the lineup while being in contention would make the Mets a lot more attractive and makes more sense for trade candidates like Oswalt or Lee or whoever.

          5. trs86

Oh we are not saying that we don’t want him back. Just saying in the Mets minds they have to move on. If we get that extra OF now and he actually makes it back you treat it as a blessing and deal then. They just can’t ride the “Well Beltran is coming back…” train anymore.

          6. DNDJohan aka kistics

And even if the Mets are not competing, Beltran coming back to play healthy will increase his trade value just in case they want to trade him.

          7. njstuckintx

That’s what Custer did with them Indians… The Cavalry is coming… The Cavalry is coming…

          8. DNDJohan aka kistics

I see. I agree with your point. Mets should have backup(?) plan just in case Beltran doesn’t make it back this season.

          9. trs86

It’s not even really a backup plan. Right now Beltran IS the backup plan.

Anyone see the article on Figgy on Metsblog? I knew he was whinny but let it go man. You stunk, you were out of options, you would not go to AAA, you went to Philly, now you stink more. Seriously get over it.

    1. njstuckintx

Even when Figgy isn’t here, he’s causing yuor blood pressure to rise.

      1. trs86

No now it’s therapeutic. I knew he sucked and he is now proving it.

        1. njstuckintx

And at the most opportune of times.

    2. trs86

I like this from the comment section:
“He also says the Mets are too obsessed with the opposition, whereas the Phillies are focused on the Phillies.”

      Irony. He haz it.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

I agree. I kinda liked him and wanted him to succeed. But how professional is it to bash your former ball club just because you failed to make the club.

    4. Mr North Jersey

Clearly Figgy’s comments are spoken from emotion. He even admits as much
“. . . . It’s a business and they kind of get shocked when you take it personally, but it’s hard to not.”
I don’t agree with some of the comments he said in the article. He was better off to take the high ground and just wish the Mets well and move on.

Whatever his future holds I wish him well except if it involves beating the Mets of course.
