In a must read article from the New York Post, Nelson Figueroa opens up about his time with the Mets and his new team the Philadelphia Phillies. Here is an excerpt of that article:
“[New York] doesn’t even come up in conversation here,” Figueroa added. “We don’t worry about New York or the other teams. That’s always been going on over there. ‘What did Jimmy Rollins say?’ a couple years ago when he said they were the team to beat in the East. They proved it. A year later, guys were making plans for the playoffs with two weeks left to play. Up five games, ‘We’re fine.’ Then to see it slowly slip away and to say goodbye to Shea Stadium the way we did, that was hard.”
-Wow, alot of bitterness coming from the former Met. I guess New York doesnt come up in conversation over there unless they win the world series and go out of their way to take a cheap shot at us. It just doesnt cease to amaze me the hypocrisy of that team, like do you really not smell what you are shoveling? As far as Figgy, I rooted for the guy as well as many of us surely did and I still dont like the way the Mets jerked him around but you dont dog your former team like this. This kinda stuff you keep in the locker room. Chances are, he would have been pitching right now for us if he exercised some patience but id rather take R.A. Dickey and Hisanori Takahashi thank you very much. Like we were talking about in the dugout, had Nelson signed with ANY other team, we would probably still pull for the guy but he went and signed with the enemy…thats a no no. Im glad the Mets lit him up yesterday and I hope he gets put in today to get lit up some more.

Wow, he sounds really petty. A petulant child that didn’t get his way. Sorry, Nelson, I always respected you as a person, but you’ve never been more than organizational depth and an occasional spot starter. You are what you are and the organization doesn’t really owe you anything. Now shut up and play the game.
That being said, I wonder how much truth there is in his statements about the Mets’ clubhouse. If there really is a lot of that “what are people saying about us” mentality, then something really needs to change. I guess we’ve seen this before, like when Reyes put a damper on his dancing on the field after the Philly wankers complained about showboating. There’s no place for that mentality in a game like this, and maybe it’s time the team got a leader that kick that mentality out of these guys.

yes, but that was in response to media criticism, and mabye even the team.
But the actual players, specifically Beltran, told Reyes “Screw those guys, you be you.” And even Reyes response was a very “well, we lost, maybe I shouldn’t be showing off..calm down focus on baseball” but that’s just not him. It’s not about how they go about it, it’s what they do.

I’m thinking there’s always some issues in every clubhouse. No way you got 25+ players who all get along, all the time. la, la, la…
But what goes on in the clubhouses should stay in clubhouses. I know sometimes when guys are traded, go FA, etc., things get said about the club they left but dang….Figgy just needs to shut up already about this now. The first comments he said his peace. Enough already.
And screw the Phillies. Reyes should just be Reyes.
