What specifically did Olney say about the trade market?
Betran’s continued absence, Francoeur’s suckitude, GMJ’s suckitude and F-Mart’s latest injury renders their hottest trade asset, Angel Pagan, untradeable for now.

I guess you are unable to hear it but he said the availability of starting pitchers allow the Mets to have multiple choices if they try to trade for a starter. At one point he says imagine the Phillies nightmare if on Aug 1st Cliff Lee is wearing a Mets uniform.
He didn’t get into specifics as to what the Mets would offer just that there may be a number of starters available.

uff da. please don’t trade for Lee for the 1/2 season rental. He’s going to cost way too much and run to bigger money elsewhere.
Granted, i’ll root my socks off for him while he would be here and he is a complete upgrade all around to what we have. That said, please say no.

Agreed on the untradeableness (is that a word?) of Pagan. But at this point, I wouldn’t want him traded. Rather lose a minor league chip. Yeah, he might revert back to the pagan of the baserunning blunders, but I guess thems the risks.

Agreed!
I’d rather move FMart
than Pagan.
Especially with Kirk
moving past him as a
serious Lefty hitting,corner OFer prospect.

Kirk is an actually, viable CF candidate, making his bat infinitely mor evaluable.

I’m guessing it wil be more of a salary dump (at least I hope it is!) so the prospect will be of a lower, more prospecty-E level!
Pagan I know at one point was perceived as trade bait, but yeah, with the real posibility of Beltran being done fo rthe year (or longer), they need to keep him.
What can the O’s really expect for Millwood, if someone takes the slary? One of the Met AA bats without a home? SOmeone like Campbell? Gee?
One idea that keeps popping up, that I like, is Millwood + wiggington, in a major slary dump, for a couple of non-entity guys from the minors.
Millwood shores up the rotation, and Wiggy can cover 2B for heel boy.

I’m not quite sure how to determine what Millwood’s salary is.
The Cot’s spreadsheet suggests it’s $15 mil minus $3 mil from Texas.
The Cot’s Orioles page suggests it’s $12 mil minus $3 mil from Texas, but also shows a $15 mil deferred signing bonus paid over 2011-2015.
So if I’m reading that correctly, Millwood is owed the balance of his salary for this season which would be the pro-rated portion of either $15 mil or $12 mil (that’s unclear) plus this deferred $15 mil signing bonus, unless that was negotiated away in his trade from Texas to Baltimore.
Suffice it to say until I learn more about exactly who owes Millwood what money I’m lukewarm at best about acquiring him.

I couldn’t care less about what Buster
Olney says about our Mets!
Lets not be phonies now!
This is a guy who’s opinion hasn’t been respected throughout all his bashing of us the past couple years
so, I for one certainly don’t care what his opinions are now regarding
this team who I’ve lived and died with daily for almost 40yrs now.

Considering the Mets are far from knowing if they will even be in the race to make a trade for a starter I wouldn’t be too worried about who would the Mets trade for A-B-C starter in May.
August is far far away and we know that so far the Mets are like that Dicken’s classic “A Tale Of Two Cities”
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,”

Big road trip coming up here. Two beatable teams, 2 Johan Starts (and a Pelf). To come back les than .500 over the 6 would be bad, and they should in theory be able to swing 4-2.
I’ll be interested to see how the issue with Utley evolves. Keith seemed to think he was hurting (or just slumping). So let’s see. I do remember Francesa said he was hurting before game 1 of the WS last year and he then went out and hit the crap out of the ball.

I am really surprised at the validity of the ESPN “in the know” guys. I can’t take Heyman, Olney, Phillips, etc. at anything they say. You’d almost have a better chance at getting the truth by taking the opposite of what they say as truth.

Speaking of Pelf. His stats are very similar to David Price’s. Although Price has started one less game, Pelf’s stats are better than Billingsley, Buchholz, Carpenter, Burnett, Hamels, etc.

LoL Francesa just ripped Cerrone.
Said he looks like 12 years old and havent taken a bath from having seen him on SNY.
Made fun of Cerrone’s post of being proud of Pelfrey saying I am sure Pelfrey is glad to hear that.

he’s bringing up the topic of not taking a bath? This from a man who’s taylor says, “uh, just wear sweats. it’ll be easier…”

To be honest, Francessa is absolutely right…Who cares what Cerrone thinks, he’s just a fan with an SNY sponsored blog so he gets great access.
That’s like Kevin Burkhart giving his own opinion on the team…useless…

While true, this coming from a man who has no bearing on anything yet all day long offers his opinion. Not that I care about Cerrone, but pot/kettle/black?

Francessa has much more credibility than Cerrone. Not only has Mike been on WFAN for the past 20+ years but I’m pretty sure at one time he was considered to be a top football analyst.
Now he is an arrogant POS but he knows his stuff…

Same thing with Francesa. At least Matt watches every game.

Oh how great would a Mike/Matt pissing match be. Even though I can’t get this smile off my face, it was extremely unprofessional. I don’t like cerrone’s work, especially on TV, but the guy is proving to be very successful and it was just a cheap shot by Mike. Mike is a dinosaur at this point and just doesn’t understand why AM radio is done.

I actually side with Fat Boy here, not that I like him one iota. Cerrone is a baby, that’s why most of us are here. Whenever somebody made a comment he didn’t like or pointed out one of his countless errors, that person would be banned. His blog was cool back when he started it, but the undeserved success went to his head. He’s basically a fan who started a blog and had many things break his way (the collapse of journalism as we once knew it, giving credence to fan-made blogs, the advent of SNY, etc.). I don’t think he’s very talented at all. His writing is awful, he makes a ton of factual mistakes and is a whining crybaby. Who cares what MF said about him? He should actually feel good, it’s getting his name out there even more.

the problem with blogs is it makes the ordinary person think they are experts. Thats why I like this blog as the posts are (1) written by multiple authors so you dont get the ego and (2) are not really the authors opinions but mostly facts or expert opinions and the comments are where they are argued/discussed.

I love blogs, too (I have one of my own). I just think that too many people out there consider Metsblog a source of information when really it’s just poorly written opinions and roundups of news items from other sources. The opinions here are much better written, more entertaining and factually correct (no misuse of LHP and RHP here). Hey, it’s great MC has made a career out of his blog. Michael Bolton and Backstreet Boys made careers out of putting out crappy music. Doesn’t mean people with actual musical taste will like it, just as anyone who appreciates good writing shouldn’t go to Metsblog for it. And getting back to my musical example and equating it to Matt’s crying on his blog: If every band got bent out of shape whenever a poor review was written, they’d never bother to play music again. In other words, since MC is now out in the public, on SNY, etc., he should be subjected to the same type of criticism anyone else would get. And again, he should be happy, he got a free plug for his blog on a powerhouse sports talk radio show (no matter how lame the host).

the advantage Cerrone has is his affiliation with SNY. Despite the typos and mistakes, he gets first hand access and is able to give his readers material no other blog can.
granted he uses MLBTR for his rumors and everything regarding player movement but metsblog is still the best place to get basic information like the starting lineup, injury reports, player reactions/interviews etc.
I do agree that, despite his blog’s success, his baseball insight is no greater than anyone of us.

However, the advent of Twitter minimizes Cerrone’s blog a bit since any breaking info a beat writer has will be immediately sent to anyone with a Twitter account, as long as they are a follower of that writer. It’s amazing how so much has changed in such a short period of time as far as the dissemination of information is concerned.

It’s beyond that even. It’s past the point where Metsblog was a begrudgingly accepted form of media. Now blogs are..I don’t want to say embraced..but, certainly accepted.
