This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty – The ” Open Letter to Mike Francesa” Edition 05-28-10

Oh Mike – can I call you Mike ? Or do you prefer Sports Pope? I think I will call you Fatcesspool for your little tirade against Mets Blog founder, Matt Cerrone earlier in the day. I couldn’t believe my ears earlier when you basically maligned Matt by saying ( and I paraphrase) ” he looks like a 12 year old in need of a shower , and ” He Likes the way Mike Pelfrey looked last night – I’m sure that Mike Pelfrey will be happy to hear that!”
Excuse me Mike but if you want to start name calling and casting aspersions about a way a person looks hows about we start with you overweight Diet Coke swilling ego-centric bully ! It is common knowledge that I am not a huge fan of Matt’s site anymore since his purge of some of the more intelligent readers that made up his comment section, and I sometimes find his site redundant. But I have met Matt on a couple of occasions and he is a decent person. For you to malign him – and in essence all of us in the blogosphere is a egregious error because
1. We more times than not break Mets news faster than you ever will !
2.
We know our Mets facts and history where as you don’t!
3. We have a right to our opinions whether they be optimistic, pessimistic or unrealistic !
Mike if Matt’s or any of the bigger Mets related blogs out there ( ours included) were considered worthless, would the Mets P.R department be sending us game notes, press releases or access to players or coaches?
There was a time that I used to enjoy listening to you Mike – it was when you still had Chris Russo as your partner , because even though Chris was just as ego maniacal as you, he was able to strike a balance and the show flowed alot better. Now we hear you repeat the same thought thirty times in a twenty-five second span. I know you will never read this letter because you are so above me and you could have me bought and sold in the blink of an eye. But remember Mike that it is better to have humility. Because when your ratings dry up – And from what I have read they are slipping. You will be the one that people will be calling a washed up hack and a has been who can’t even affect a good Long Island accent.
My sincerest regards to you ( the old , semi morbidly obese piece of rotting hump that you are !!)

“Mike that fern has more personality than you do !!!”

And now…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Happy Birthday wishes go out to the original Mets reserve outfielder Bobby Gene Smith . He is 76 (1934) .
One time reserve catcher for most of the the new millennium, and now manager of the Port St Lucie team, Mike DiFelice is 41 (1969) .

Current eighth inning man – ” The Beast From The East” Ryota Igarashi is 31, (1979)

Sadly on this date in 2002, original Mets coach, and second ever Mets manager, Wes Westrum passed away.

New York Mets signed free agent pitcher, Dick Selma on May 28, 1963.

And today’s Mo Vaughn tidbit of the day – He once choked on Mike Francesa’s Ego !!!

    BOOM!

Am I wrong? I mean like I said I am not a fan of Matt’s but I have the right to defend both his and our rights to exist as a alternate source of info

      1. dirtysanchez

There was no reason for him to do that. Hes a grown man, act like one. You want to talk about unprofessional, there ya go. Not a fan of the way Matt did us on metsblog but no reason he deserved any of that. I dont listen to the guy, what prompted him to say that about matt?

        1. GravediggerHebner

I haven’t checked Metsblog in many moons but I saw a Metsblog headline on sportspyder today that was “I am proud of Mike Pelfrey” and it was shortly after that when this on air outburst occurred.

And Francesa’s basic premise was that he wasn’t really harshing on Cerrone (he said to a caller that brought it up later “don’t dwell on a throwaway line from my show”) but that he thought Cerrone was too close to Pelfrey’s own age to properly express “pride” in him, that such a thing should be reserved for an older person such as a parent, teacher or mentor of Pelfrey’s would rightly be proud of him, but that coming from Matt it was awkward/inappropriate.

          1. dirtysanchez

ah ok….well to that I say

Who made him the authority. Im sure MC said what he said because he saw Mike come up through the system and was blogging about the Mets when Pelf was first up here struggling. Still no reason for him to go off on him like that.

          2. GravediggerHebner

The way I see it is as a battle of the juggernauts. For good or bad reasons, Mike is the most known and listened to voice in NY radio sports talk, and also for good or bad reasons Matt is the most read Mets blog.

Personally I was rooting for them both, ala King Kong versus Godzilla, to fall off a cliff into the sea.

Alas I didn’t get my wish, and both persons “Q” ratings got a boost from the exchange.

          3. njstuckintx

What does age have anything to do with pride?

          4. GravediggerHebner

            Nothing that I’m aware of.

But in the interest of full disclosure, when I noticed the headline “I’m proud of Mike Pelfrey” on the sportspyder I thought it was kind of weird, but given the way this day has unfolded around the whole incident I’ve tried to look within and understand why I felt that way when I read it and I really can’t justify it so I guess I’m glad I didn’t go on my big time radio show and belittle it.

This might be too subtle to bother with but the only way I can try to explain it is to say that I would never say “I am proud of you” to someone that I did not know personally and somewhat well, regardless of their age. Using Mike Pelfrey, who I do not know personally, as the example I would say “I am proud of his accomplishments” as opposed to “proud of him.”

Whether Cerrone knows Pelfrey “personally and well” or not, and whether that in any way relates to Francesa’s thought process I can’t say.

        2. asod75

The “12-year-old, needs a bath” comments were below the belt, especially coming from the slovenly Fatcessa. Still, I really have no love for MC, especially the way he handles criticism, a big reason why we’re all here now (a much better place to be anyway).

          1. asod75

And also Cerrone posting it on his blog and basically begging his readers to defend him was pretty ridiculous.

          2. ceetar

or insightful. Many/plenty of people were going to go to the site after hearing about the incident, so makes sense to give ‘em a place to comment and stick around.

          3. rustyjr

Yeah but h still attacked blogs in general and I am fed up with his condecending behavior and like I said I’m not a fan of matts site but that rant was uncalled for

          4. asod75

Maybe. Still came off as a bit of a baby, but just this man’s opinion.

          5. metsfan4decades

Yeah, as long as you’ve already passed the ‘audition’ process and are one of the ‘chosen’ who actually are able to post on his site….

  2. Mr North Jersey

Sorry but I have to say when it comes to name calling and casting aspersions Francesa gets it on a regular basis from tons of Mets fans including Cerrone so the notion that a Francesa comment at Cerrone is some how uncalled for is the height of hyprcrosy.

Another thing is the idea what he said about Cerrone was also meant for the entire blogosphere is as big a stretch as you can get it.

Cerrone if anything is more a part of the media now than ever before. The notion that he is on par with the likes of a M.M.O. is not true.

Francesa did Cerrone a favor cause he acknowledged his existence. Cerrone will tell you as much if he is honest with himself.

This how dare he say what he did as if he did something different than many Mets fans have done to him including Cerrone is a joke at best.

    1. rustyjr

I understand your point but mike did talk smack about blogs – saying who reads em – those were his words not mine and mike opens himself to criticism for his brazen anti mets bias like I have said many times – I rarely read matts blog I find it derivitive – but to make fun of the way he looks I felt was out of line .

    2. dirtysanchez

thats a good point jerz. Didnt look at it that way…

But he did call all of us out also. If he bashed only MC, your totally right but he took a shot at us too. That was not cool.

      1. Mr North Jersey

        2 things.

        1. Since when do Mets fans care what Francesa’s feelings about blogs are?

        2. People are not reacting to the comment involving who reads blogs anyways. They are reacting to him taking a jab at how Cerrone looks on tv and his sarcastic remark about he is sure Pelfrey will be glad to know Cerrone is proud of him.

        1. rustyjr

Look I took a afront to his blog rants – we pit a lot of blood sweat & tears to write this blog – and I hate being maligned by the man – yes Matt is snarky at times and yes I like seeing him taken down a peg but that attack wasn’t justified

          1. Mr North Jersey

I’ve said my peace on the matter.

  3. CaseStreet

Matt has at times been critical of the fat man. I wonder if fat man has been waiting to get back at Matt and ridiculing him.

    1. rustyjr

If I’m Mike I’d critisize matts journalistic acumen – not mud slinging

  4. Kingman 26

    HAHA!

Rusty, why did you hold back and not let us know what you REALLY think!

    LOL!

Seriously, Francesspool criticizing another man’s appearance is just too much.

Rusty, if you need help to stop listening to Francesa, I can refer you to some hypnotists…..

    1. rustyjr

Lol I had fishbone in the cd player but i can’t play it with patients in the van – too aggressive

      1. Kingman 26

Hey, I can send you a nice, delightful, harmless Ella Fitzgerald CD you can play instead of Francesspool!

        :-)

Or maybe some Tupac or Panic or Megadeth….

        1. saltygary

Don’t know what kind of patients Rusty has but Megadeath cures all ailments.

      2. saltygary

I haven’t heard of the band Fishbone brought up in 10 years and the guy I hired to put in my patio brought them up today because I mentioned the band Phish.

        1. rustyjr

Megadeth pre countdown to extinction is all that matters lol

          1. rustyjr

            Party at ground zero !

  5. saltygary

Have to agree with King, there is no reason to listen to the wFAN. 1/3rd are commercials and the rest is just garbage. People call in only to get berated by Mike. If they want that treatment go to a dominatrix.

I still listen to Mad Dog twice a week and his show is pretty good. He has gotten pretty humbled with trying to start a national show and he is giving it his all. He still can’t let go of some topics like his tireless rejection of a SB coming to NY but for the most part he’s great.

If the poop hits the fan in Mets-land I will turn on the wFan just to hear some instant reaction but that’s all it is. No decent incite (at least by Mike anyway) just a bunch of hate.

  6. metsfan4decades

    I agree with you, Rusty.
Anyone that reads here regularly knows how I feel about MF. His time has come and gone now, IMO. I too agree it was much easier to listen to him when he had his sidekick Russo with him (I never actually ‘enjoyed’ listening to him though). MF, by his own admission, has not kept up with technology at all (but I guess that’s what he has a staff for…) but just b/c he eschews technology doesn’t give him a license to jump all over someone who uses it to his advantage. I don’t often tune in anymore and usually only for the reason that Salty said above and/or I happen to be in the car at that time.

On the other side though, Cerrone, although probably not deserving of that kind of criticism, is not really a TV presence at all. He is just not suited to it, period. He is what someone commented on in the last post: a kid who was in the right place at the right time, has watched what started as a hobby turn into a career but who, IMO, is close to going down the other side of the hill because of stubbornness. Just read his MC.com link. He complains about having 1000 emails in his InBox he doesn’t know what to do with, someone suggests an intern, and he says no thanks – basically b/c he just cannot bring himself to give up any control whatsoever. That kind of thinking will ensure he never gets to the next level.

And why are we discussing these two guys anyway? LOL We should be discussing the anticipation of trying to keep the shutout streak continuing, and/or the wins continuing, and/or series winning continuing.

    LGM!
