I missed it but Metsfever tweeted that Gammons said Boras came to Mets to put Ollie on DL but Ollie said no.

NJ, saw this detail over at FWICG:
Peter Gammons was a guest of Mike Francesa on WFAN today.
According to Gammons, Scott Boras approached the Mets a few weeks ago and asked them to put Oliver Perez on the disabled list, send him to Florida and have him work with renowned sports psychologist Harvey Dorfman.
However, Jeff Wilpon declined, says Gammons, ‘because he didn’t think that was necessary.’

When did being a head case qualify you for the DL? Talk about a massive loophole to drive right through!

Lots of leaks out there. Who knows what’s true?
I find it extremely suspect that Boras said this and the Mets didn’t do it. What are they worried about? Pissing off Perez? Oh no! That didn’t stop them from pissing off Maine AND putting him on the DL with a phantom injury.
Does this mean the Mets, given the option to send Ollie to Florida to work with their people both mentally (a guy Pelfrey credits as being a big help) and physically, chose to instead beg him to go away to Buffalo on his own?

Could be the agent just trying to make himself look good.

Well, the sports psych guy could work heavily with him while on the team. It isn’t like Tiger’s sex place, is it?
Also, with this story, i don’t actually believe anything I hear now. Probably all intentional leaks (plants), misinformation, CYAing, etc. lots of agendas going on, and lots of hacks exploiting them.

+1
And Pelfrey worked with a sport psych. So far, that was money well spent….

Can’t the Mets collect insurance money if Ollie stays on DL for extended period?

Today was certainly an active Mets day…..
1. Apparently Frenchy is too cool for school. Adam Rubin: “I will say Francoeur will get a lot of extra rope because of his personality.” Even if Frenchy is performing better, it is scary that evaluations on talent arent as important as personality. I didnt know personality won ballgames. Might want to break .300 OBP.
2. Cora’s option vests at 80 appearances. Hooray. Lets hope that our .615 OPS’ing starting 2nd baseman isnt too injured or else our .585 OPS’ing backup will be here for another year.
3. Oliver Perez is still here(I could end here), and if that above report is true we scoffed at the idea of getting rid of him temporarily so that he could hold the BP hostage.
Possible good news:
1. Beltran actually, maybe, possibly, doing something baseball intensive.
2. Daniel Murphy hopefully not sucking too much defensively so he can stopgap Cora getting 80 appearances at 2nd and give Havens time to get here by 2012?

sending him to a shrink and going on the DL is a terrific idea, too bad Wilpons wont pay for it

So many rumors surrounding the Perez situation…
If it’s true Boras did approach management with that short term solution and they did turn it down – to what means? What is the difference between Ollie voluntarily going to the minors and being placed on the DL and getting whatever help he needs? Just exactly what is it the Mets FO want to see happen here?
Ollie would consent to the DL, but not going down voluntarily not on the DL? (If Eddie’s story is correct)….Again, what exactly is the difference?
I’m just done with all the drama. If he won’t consent come this Saturday when Niese is activated, just release him.
Doesn’t sound like Coleman has any faith in the Beltran starting baseball activities story either….

I would have him sit and watch every game. Not pitch…ever. Not even as a mop up…..nothing for the rest of the year

personally I would give him an ultimatum.
either he goes to AAA, goes on the DL or he is banished from the team al la Stephon Marbury.

At the risk of once again quoting old news this was in today’s NY Daily News:
“Team sources say New York Mets were never close to firing Jerry Manuel, replacing with Bob Melvin
BY Andy Martino, DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Tuesday, June 1st 2010, 4:00 AM
New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel is not in danger of losing his job to scout Bob Melvin. The 2010 Mets have oscillated wildly between ugly and encouraging play, with perceptions about Jerry Manuel’s job security fluctuating with the team’s standing in the NL East. And while team brass was clearly unhappy after a four-game sweep in Florida May 13-16, sources have maintained the Mets have never been close to firing Manuel.
By extension, then, they have not been close to promoting Bob Melvin from scout to manager. League sources have speculated all season that Melvin would succeed Manuel at some point, and a recent report suggested that team officials had engaged Melvin in informal interviews, quizzing the former Diamondbacks manager about how he would fix the Mets.
A person with direct knowledge of the Mets’ inner workings said that no such conversations have taken place with Melvin. And for several weeks, multiple team sources have repeatedly insisted that the notion of an upcoming Melvin-for-Manuel swap is mere industry gossip.
Melvin managed Arizona from 2005-09, winning the NL West in 2007. Before that, he managed the Mariners for two seasons. The Mets hired him as a scout last winter.
But despite that resume, and the possibility that Melvin could be considered in the future if Manuel is fired, the team has not yet been close to making such a move.”
