  1. Mr North Jersey

I am saddened with Familia I had high hopes for him and so far he just has been so so.

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

      Need to trade him.

    2. ceetar

There’s no G in that name?

either way, he’s so low down in the minors that there isn’t really much to take from results in terms of overall success.

    3. metro

He is still VERY young (20 for the entire 2010 season) and 35 k’s in 34.2 innings are both reasons I’m not too concerned.

    4. Mr North Jersey

I am sorry I didn’t mean to suggest I was giving up on him. I was just hoping he would take ST Lucie by storm and be in AA for 2nd half of season. Putting himself on the radar as a pitcher to watch out for in 2011.

      1. metro

I mean you are correct to say he has been “disappointing” thus far but very few pitchers take the Mejia-route and are on the radar for the bigs at 21 (which he will be all of 2011). To put it into perspective the youngest pitcher in the NL this year is Mejia followed by Craig Kimbrel who is 22 years old and in the youngest in the AL is Rick Porcello who is also 22.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Absolutely correct. I was just hoping Familia was going to be one of those few.

  2. njstuckintx

Anyone know how Murphy did at 2B? Was he mr. slick fielder or a butcher?

    1. metro

8 chances in the field, no errors. I wasn’t at the game so I can’t tell you how he “looked” but it’s better than 3 errors right?

      1. njstuckintx

Honestly, I’d prefer Murphy to Cora for sure, even with the limited experience that Daniel has. And if the combo of Slappy’s gimp is getting to bad and Murphy is hitting the ball like we expect him too, I’d almost prefer him in there over Slappy.

I would like to see how he is turning the double play.

        1. wannybackstra

Cora can play SS and the Mets need someone on the bench who can.

          1. njstuckintx

I’m not saying kick Cora to the curb, I’m just saying I’d prefer Murph playing 2B over cora.

Agreed, there needs to be a backup SS. Murph could take tatis’ position, really.

          2. wannybackstra

Yeah, that would be the guy for Murph to replace, especially since Fernando rarely sees the light of day anyway.

    Reyes
    Murphy
    Bay
    Ike
    Wright
    Pagan
    Barajas
    Frenchy

Looks pretty good to me and if Beltran can come back and even be 80% of what we are used to

    Reyes
    Murphy
    Bay
    Beltan
    Wright
    Ike
    Pagan
    Barajas

    That’s potentially a DANGEROUS lineup.

    1. njstuckintx

I’m not sure Murph would hit the 2 spot (i’d like to see him there, though). They’d prob put him in 7th or 8th. I’d actually like to see Reyes, Wright, Bay, Beltran, Ike, Pagan, Murph, Barajas. I think Wright would see more fastballs in the 2 spot and he’d get less of them stupid looping curve balls in the dirt that he can’t help himself from swinging at.

I wonder what the last thoughts are that cross Omir Santos’ mind as he falls asleep.

Roughly a year ago at this time he was getting MLB meal money, traveling by charter and sleeping in the finest hotels, and hitting game winning home runs off Papelbon at Fenway. Now he’s in Binghamton, riding buses and hitting .043, and I would be hard pressed to be happier with the current Mets major league catching situation than I am.

Thanks for the memory Omir, but I don’t miss you. Sorry if that’s harsh.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Somewhere Omir is saying I’ll show them.
      :-)

      1. GravediggerHebner

Then he rolls over, hits the alarm button and gets ready for the bus ride to Altoona.

        :-(

        1. Mr North Jersey

          hahahahhaa

        2. njstuckintx

I figured you go the “shell” of his former self or some rafael/leonardo/donatello reference.

    2. Kingman 26

      Ha!

      Not harsh at all.

There are no doubt infinitely worse jobs than playing AA baseball for a living….

Of everything Omar did this offseason, what he did with the catcher position was his finest work.

Along with NOT signing Pineiro, Sheets, Harden, Lackey, Wolf, and Marquis….

      :-)

This post seems the best place to note this:

Stephen Strasburg’s last minor league tune up start before his MLB debut next week is tomorrow at 1:00pm against our Buffalo Bisons and will be on SNY live.

    1. Mr North Jersey

I will if no one else does make a post reminding people about tomorrow.

It would be nice to see the Bisons shake him up on his last start for a bunch of runs.

Hey we will get to see how Feliciano looks in the field.

      1. wannybackstra

The law of averages suggests that Feliciano is line for huge decline in performance and that the Mets have probably missed the boat in attempting to capitalize on his hot streak.

That said, he can’t be any worse than GMJ has been.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          Here is my slant Wanny.

GMJ is a piece of shyt that is only here because of his ability to play CF.

I think if the Mets felt that they had a servicable defensive guy to play CF he’d prob be here by now considering how much GMJ has struggled with the bat.

If the Mets felt that GMJ’s bat was important he’d be gone by now but clearly they are more concerned that he can play a decent CF than hit.

          My 2 cents

          1. wannybackstra

            Agreed.

    2. metsfan4decades

I had planned on watching. Thanks for the reminder.
