UUUUGHHHHH !!!!That is how I felt as Adrian Gonzalez’s grand slam homerun was leaving the vast expanses of Petco Park in the bottom of the eleventh inning of last nights debacle. And do you want to know a dirty little secret? Well it;s all Jerry Manuel’s fault !! Jerry’s early overuse of this bullpen came back to haunt him last night, pretty much wasting a gutsiest performance by Johan Santana – who had next to nothing in his tank yet pitched seven shutout innings ! I can not blame Jerry for going to K-ROD last night for he is the closer and no closer is perfect. But to then use Raul Valdes – who was rocked in his previous outing against the Brewers was a head scratcher ! Where was Mejia ! Jerry has been reiterating that he wants to use Jenrry in high pressure situations – but honestly I don’t remember the last time he was brought in with the game on the line? Where was Fernando Neive – the poster child for this overused pen? Well at least Ollie P didn’t rear his ugly head – although the results would have been roughly the same ! Yeah so here is Ollie wasting a spot in the pen that could have been used for Bobby Parnell or even Pat Misch. I just hope that this game isn’t the defining moment of the season .
Once again I say – “UUUUGGHHHH ” !

” Jerry paid the taxman last night on the leaky pen !”

And with that said … HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!
Happy Birthday wishes goes out to the former Shea Stadium beer vendor who became a mediocre reliever for the Mets of the late ’70′s Ed Glynn (1953)

One time infielding prospect ,Aaron Ledesma is 39 (1971) .
The man who was quoted as saying ” Ain’t no dinosaurs in the bible so they don’t exist“, Carl Everett is 39 (1971) .
Headcase starting pitcher, Chan Ho Park is 37 (1973) .
New York Mets selected Darryl Strawberry in first round (first pick overall) of free agent draft on June 3, 1980. Mets fans everywhere rejoiced. When he left – we cried . When he signed with the Yankees – WE CURSED !
New York Mets selected pitcher, Rick Ownbey in 13th round of free agent draft on June 3, 1980. He was the other player traded along with Neil Allen for Keith Hernandez.
New York Mets selected catcher, RonnReynolds in fifth round of free agent draft on June 3, 1980.

New York Mets selected Billy Beane in first round (23rd pick overall) of free agent draft on June 3, 1980. As we all know he is the toughest General Manager to deal with these days !
New York Mets selected Gregg Jefferies in first round (20th pick overall) of free agent draft on June 3, 1985. Jefferies was a good player – but his diva like demands led to the downfall of the late ’80′s – early ’90′s Mets !
New York Mets selected pitcher,Jason Jacome in 12th round of free agent draft on June 3, 1991.
New York Mets selected pitcher,Joe Crawford in 17th round of free agent draft on June 3, 1991.

New York Mets selected the original “ Flying Hawaiian” – Benny Agbayani in 30th round of free agent draft on June 3, 1993.

New York Mets selected Brian Bannister in seventh round of free agent draft on June 3, 2003. I still can’t believe we traded him for that waste of carbon – Ambriox Burgos !
New York Mets selected relief pitcher, Carlos Muniz in 13th round of free agent draft on June 3, 2003.
New York Mets released Chan Ho Park on June 3, 2007. He is currently the Yankees problem now .
And Mo Vaughn favorite movie quote? ” This is the year the fink beats the stomach !” guess the movie and you win … NOTHING !!

So I guess the absurd argument of
using Murph as our everyday 2Bman at this point in our season and his career had been settled…..
Also, last night furthers my argument that you don’t give up a Meijia even
if it meant Lee. This is not a serious
playoff contending team! We’ve now played exactly one-third of the schedule and are at .500, w/o the
great last two weeks of April,we’re
16-25 in just over a quarter of the schedule. Adding a Cliff Lee at the
expense of Meijia, plus, plus…And maybe plus another prospect is gonna turn us into a playoff team???
Not likely!
Lastly, it continues to Amaze me how
Jerry to thought to be to blame for
every lose we suffer. “Overworked Bullpen”??…Yeah, no doubt BUT what
exactly do you expect with this rotation?
I strongly made this argument when we broke camp. “How long can this questionable bullpen hold up if we
don’t get quality innings from three-
fifths of our starting rotation???”

And you are correct with your assesment about the starting rotation coming out of spring training -but now that we are getting quality starts from our starters – the bullpen has been over used and extended – yes our bats were quiet the last few nights but I had that sinking feeling when Johan left the game the pen would blow it

I thought a month ago we were going to be in trouble with this BP. First 6 weeks in they were practically stellar – the only thing keeping us around .500 with anemic offense and SP struggles.
But there is no way you can trot your BP arms out there night after night for 4/5+ innings and expect them to keep up the pace.
Now…we lost Taka to the rotation. We started Nieve which means he was unavailable a couple days before that start and several days after. We’ve got Ollie sitting out there taking up a spot ’cause we all know he cannot be a contributing member at this point.
So to me, I blame the SP or lack thereof, not the BP. Unfortunately we all knew the SP was a ? coming into the season. So far, 2/5s of it are not there and the jury is still out on Niese. Going to be an even longer season if we don’t get some depth.

Why would jerry leave Valdez in after he game up two hard hits off balls up in the zone and then hit Eckstein?
Not to mention that the bottom of the lineup was sure to be easy outs. Way to give Santana his best shot at winning a game.
It’s like Jerry says, “We’re facing their ace so lets roll over.”
Once again Jerry fails. Fucktard!

Yeah!…It was Jerry who’s being paid tens of millions of dollars and can’t close out
the 9th inning last night.
What’s that?…10 blown saves
now since the middle of last season?

I don’t understand why KRod would throw 3 cruveballs in a row to Eckstein.
Sure Eckstein had 2 bad swings at his curveball, but you were up 0-2, why can’t you bounce one in the dirt with his infamous changeup or tie him up with inside FB.

blown saves happen. part of the game. tons of closers have at least two if not 3 blown saves this season.
I wouldn’t want any other closer. K-Rod leaves it all on the field. He may not have high heat or impeccable control but he’s still very effective and is a gamer like Santana.
Much rather have K-Rod than Wagner or Fuentes.
But if you want to blame K-Rod instead of Jerry overusing the bullpen and not knowing when to take Valdez out, go right ahead.

Agreed.
Krod has been nothing short of great for us this year. It happens. He’s for sure not used to coming in for multiple innings and I would think that has bothered him a little too.

Only reasonable explanation that I can come up with is that Jerry likes the Lefty-Lefty matchup… but like you said… Fu**tard!
