According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, to resolve the impending roster issue with Jonathon Niese being activated on Saturday, the Mets are considering putting Oliver Perez on the DL with a knee injury
-Ill be the first to admit I dont like this guy(oliver)…at all. Ive never seen such a display of selfishness at this level before. Now the Mets are going to send him to the DL with a “knee injury”…coincidentally when Niese just happens to be activated from the DL. I dont know how the Mets keep finding ways to mess the most common sense things up but you cannot blame fans for being cynical. Oliver Perez is fine in my opinion and if his knee really was an “issue”, why wasnt he placed on the DL earlier?? Its not like he has been doing much of ANYTHING in the bullpen, how did he suddenly have a “knee injury”? Im so sick and tired of this crap, you have a pitcher making $11,400,000 less than Oliver Perez and doing MUCH better. I dont know who “really” is in charge of decisions on the Mets right now but they need to be fired. No way should a player literally hold a team hostage.
Also in Rubin’s article, Hanley Ramirez loves playing at Citifield:
“They boo their own players, so we like to come here and beat the Mets,†Ramirez told the Palm Beach Post. “We just laugh every time they boo their own players. It’s weird.â€
-Maybe because no one goes to Marlin games that actually HEARING fans in the stands sounds “weird”. Just focus on getting out the box and running things out…
Update: According to a tweet from Kevin Burkhardt, Mets officially put Oliver Perez on the DL with knee tendinitis to make room for Jonathon Niese

Any news on Maine?
We all knew the season hinged on MOP.
Maine – who knows if he’ll be decent again. The guy is throwing batting practice.
Ollie – we can hope he “learns” to pitch, but it’s probably too later for that. Just give him to the Brewers so he can hook up with Rick “Obi-Wan” Peterson. Hey, maybe we can get GoGo in return.
Pelfrey – Cy Young Candidate. I hope Big Pelf makes the All-Star team. He deserves it and has stepped up when we most needed him to. If he keeps this up I can see a contract extension to buy out his arbitration years and couple of FA years.
If Dickey or Taka can remain playing as well as they’ve shown they can, all we need to do is find one more starter to get us over that hump. Good news is that this year seems to be a buyer’s market with a good number of pitchers possibly available. The bad news is Omar isn’t likely to go out and get a game changer like Lee or Oswalt instead opting to incrementally improve the pitching with a guy like Millwood or Westbrook.
Well, at least the Mets have hope. Couldn’t have said that last year.

He was on the DL twice last season, 5/3 – 7/8 for right knee tendinitis of the patellar tendon, and from 8/24 – 10/5 for right knee surgery due to patellar tendinitis.
It seems within the boundaries of reality to me that maybe his poor performance this season could be in some way related to his knee.

its possible but considering that came just in time for niese to come off the dl…cant blame me for being cynical.

I think your cynicism is reasonable.
There may actually be nothing physically wrong with him at all, I can’t say. But at least in this instance the team can point to two recent DL stints related to his knee when questioned about this. It’s not like he’s going on the DL for a Supernumerary nipple, he’s going on (allegedly) because of a body part that has proved problematic in the recent past.

if at first you dont succeed, try try again. couldnt get him down to minors but making up an injury works well enough anyway
something tells me now that Ollie is gone, we will see a nice winning streak…

Hey, I called for this weeks ago!
Great move, keep Ollie around, and make him suffer as much as possible, and maybe even collect some insurance money.
Excellent moves lately.
Bye bye Garbage Matthews Jr, DL Slappy, more Junior Core arrivals…all excellent.
