Man Up Awards For Friday Night

i

Talk about comeback player of the year. R.A. Dickey notched his 3rd win of the season last night as he held the Marlins to 3 run ball over 6.1 innings of work. Not only does Dickey keep us entertained in the dugout with the endless “dirty” jokes off his name but he also gives the Mets something to seriously consider. Im sure at this point, many Met fans would feel content in R.A. Dickey taking over Oliver Perez slot in the rotation…full time. Dickey has pitched  his way into serious consideration as our 5th starter for the rest of the season. He gives the Mets a totally different look in the rotation and if you think about it, a better chance to win a game. When you have a guy who throws you 80mph knuckle balls for 6 or 7 innings and you have a guy like Mejia coming at you with 95-98mph fastballs, its going to be really tough to square anything up. Good job Dickey, keep it up(couldnt resist, sorry lol)!

Were you expecting someone else lol. In what makes the NL to some a weaker division because the pitchers hit and to others make the NL a more strategic brand of baseball, Dickey broke the mold last night. Dickey went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The Mets pretty much had a full AL lineup last night as Dickey was holding his own weight in the 9 spot. On a night where the news that the Mets (finally) DFA’ed Gary Matthews Jr, its nice to be reminded in their justification for doing so when a PITCHER has a better game than the 3 months Matthews has been here. It figures that with a guy who throws a knuckle ball on the mound, you get one of the best offensive performances of the night.

HONORABLE MENTION

Jason Bay for going 2-4 with an RBI

Jeff Francoeur for going 2-4 with an RBI

Ruben Tejada for notching his first MLB career RBI and going 1-4

Pedro Feliciano, Elmer Dessens and Francisco Rodriguez for shutting down the Marlins with only a one run lead to play with

More like “Most Improved Player”,Dirty!…I think you’d actually have to have been agood
    player before being bad/injured
    to win “ComeBack Player”!…Just sayin’….
Talk about a guy whos saved a teams
    season!…Think about where we’d
be if it were Ollie making those
    starts instead of Dickey?
ALS, Big ups to Rusty on todays
    “TDIMI”…Pacella,Cornejo,Todd….
Talk about names from my youth!!
Ahh, to be 12 again!…With nothing
    but naive hope!…AND…Siebert and
Bobby V. for Kong, second part of
the midnight massacre…The first time I cried as a Met fan….
Who knew how many more tears I’d have
to shed for not becoming a yankee fan
like everyone else back in the mid-70s??!!
    Lastly, Goodbye Gary Matthews jr.!…
We hardly knew ya!…But what we do
    know is that YOUSUCK!…………..
Oh, and frankly you really should
return some of that money you robbed
    from The Angels and us!

Haha Fong, Rusty’s report today definitely brought me back to my childhood too with some of those names!

Matthews gone, Tejada up–little by little the future is approaching. Ain’t gonna happen this year, but this year is like 1983—the mediocre calm before the excellent storm….just a few players away, and we have the dough to spend and the chips to trade; and the new manager, whoever it will be, will be, like Davey J, the last piece of the puzzle. OK, maybe Gary Carter was the last piece of THAT puzzle, but you get the idea!

      Have a great weekend buddy!

Ahh Tim Leary – what coulda been !
I think if we obtain a front lune starter or Maine fights his way back into the rotation – then dickey goes into the pen & taka stays in the rotation

Rusty, I remember watching that Tim Leary game from Wrigley!

            I am out–have a good one guys!

            Agreed!
If I remember correctly,I cut out of school early to catch that game which I think was a 2PMer since they were in Chi-Town!
I do recall seeing the game,I think he pitched 2innings b/f coming out….
            And looked like the real-deal.
Unfortunately we would see him again for a long time!

Dickey on the FAN right now.

“I’m just thankful for the opportunity with the Mets and that’s not a cliche, that’s genuine emotion.”

    1. CaseStreet

sure, he’s saying that now, but wait till he gets DFA’d and starts complaining that he belongs on the Mets

      1. stickguy

don’t think he is going anywhere anytime soon.

He would stay in the rotation over Takagoomey too.

and amazing that he has only 1 less win than Johan!
