you mean tendinitis of the brain…would be so nice if we never saw him on the team again…

    1. njstuckintx

As soon as I saw the title of the post, I thought the exact same thing.

  2. GravediggerHebner

“And the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats…”

    1. njstuckintx

You silly kaniggit. Wouldst thou favorite color be of the blueish hue?

      1. Kingman 26

Ah, perhaps they should hand Ollie the Holy Hand Grenade as he heads out….they certainly should fart in his general direction, as it is clear that his mother was a hamster and his father smelt of elderberry…..

        1. njstuckintx

          :) and +1 & a 2 & a 3…

  3. tkfj2

Oh happy day, Ollie doesnt deserve a spot in this rotation or on this team. Next move; DFA, cut, release, send him to Area 51, etc.

  4. CaseStreet

so, how do they fix Ollie? I’m not sure that’s possible.

    1. prismo

      Brain transplant.

      1. njstuckintx

Nah, cortisone shot to the cerebellum should suffice.

        1. wannybackstra

unfortunately, with his velocity down so much it appears it is more than just his empty head causing the problem.

          1. njstuckintx

You think it is Warthen’s guidance providing the drop in velocity for both Maine and Ollie? I know Pelf attributes Warthen for helping him find the right grip for his splitter and such, but overall, I really get the feeling the negatives outweigh the positive on him.

          2. wannybackstra

Could be. But it’s hard to blame a pitching coach for Ollie’s struggles when so many other voices have gone unheard.

    2. ceetar

2-3 regular no-pressure starts. Build arm strength and get game experience. Probably be fine. It’s really a very small sample size everyvone is screaming about releasing him over.

      1. stickguy

hopefully a couple of weeks of side sessions for mechanics, some rehab work, then his rehab starts will get him back to semi useful. Probably does end up back in the rotation, and maybe he will have a decent stretch.

Just good enough to get himself traded in the off season (1 year left, eat some cash, he will be moveable).

        1. ceetar

Pitch to a couple of wins in the playoffs…

      2. Kingman 26

“2-3 regular no-pressure starts. Build arm strength and get game experience. Probably be fine. It’s really a very small sample size everyone is screaming about releasing him over.”

Yeah, almost two entire years of complete inability to pitch is a microscopic sample.

Tell us again about how the team was weaker last night having Tejada instead of Slappy—please?????

        1. prismo

+1 to all of the above

Perez’ history of suckitude goes back much farther than a “small sample size.”

And Slappy has reinvented the term slappy this season with his .277 SLG% (3 extra base hits in 174PA).

          1. Kingman 26

            :-)

            Always knew you were smart….

    3. njstuckintx

Him realizing “hey, riding on buses from game to game kinda sucks” might provide some focus.

  5. CaseStreet

oh yeah, DL Jerry and Let Cora manage.

Heck, is Valentin around? Wally in Brooklyn yet?

Shit, GKR could both manage and broadcast the games and still do a better job than Jerry and Co.

    1. Kingman 26

      Wow, Cora managing.

      That is an inspired idea.

Let Jerry be figurehead for the rest of the year while Cora makes the decisions and keeps the seat warm for Wally/Teufel/Bobby V/Showalter/Davey Johnson/Morris Buttermaker/ANYONE.

      1. CaseStreet

        Torre :)

        1. Kingman 26

Hey, I will take Joe OR Frank Torre!

  6. whataputz

“We’re not going to embarrass our organization by releasing a man we signed to a 36 million dollar deal. We’re just going to call him out when he refuses our attempts to send him to the minors, then we’re going to DL him for no actual reason when he refuses said assignment.”
    - Omar Minaya

Gotta love how this organization operates.

    1. dirtysanchez

      he really said this?

    2. Kingman 26

Why the hell should they release him and eat 20 million?

      Precisely what would that accomplish?

Let him rot on the DL, be untradeable, and never let him play again. Screw him AND Boras.

20 million is a lot of money to grown-ups.

      1. whataputz

I never said release him, it’s just funny how he doesn’t wanna release him because it looks terrible, yet they are going through all of this garbage.

” Let him rot on the DL, be untradeable, and never let him play again….20 milllion is a lot to grown-ups.”

So explain the difference to me between releasing him and letting him rot on the DL and never playing again? I’m not a grown up so I wouldn’t understand.

        1. Mr North Jersey

putz where can i find that quote?

          1. whataputz

not an actual quote…I was just joking how they were reluctant to release him because of the embarrassment, yet they are fine with letting the AAA soup opera get out, and then they DL him, which is clearly BS. Sorry that I mislead you.

          2. Mr North Jersey

I see so you just assuming it is because they will be embarrassed.

You said with so much conviction I thout you read it somewhere.

          3. whataputz

lol, why would he ever say that?

          4. Mr North Jersey

again you said it with such conviction that I was brought to ask if that was a quote and from where.

But in the end you explained yourself and I thank you.

          5. Kingman 26

In Putz’s Junior High paper’s sports section, where he is the assistant editor.

          6. whataputz

Actually I’m in the fourth grade King. My mommy types for me because I can’t be trusted with nice things yet.

Always keepin’ it classy King :)

        2. Kingman 26

Well, if he is released, he is free, out of the Mets’ control, and can sit on a beach for the next two years and collect 20 million. Or sign with another team while the Mets pay his huge salary.

On the DL, he is still to some degree under the Mets’ control, he cannot sign with another team so therefore if he DOES want to pitch again, the chances are dramatically improved that he will eventually go to the minors and try to learn to pitch again.

          1. whataputz

But to quote you, you said that he would never play again and rot on the DL, now you’re changing what you said. If he rots on the DL, which is what you said, than he doesn’t play for the Mets, if he is released, then he doesn’t play for the Mets. That’s pretty much the same thing.

Sure he could sign with another team, but why would this lazy man now decide to try hard and stick it to the mets, when as you said he will have tons of dough in the bank and can just sit on a beach and eat hot dogs?

/ my mommy let me type this one.

  7. johan4cy

Sounds like a severe case of the sucks to me.

  8. stickguy

probably not a phantom injury. More like fortunate timing!

The beauty of an MRI is, it can find “something” on anyone. And since just about every pro athlete suffers from various maladies, you can find one when you want it.

Hell, I probably have tendonitis too, I am just not having anyone look for it!

So in ollie’s case, I am sure there is medical proof, but probably no worse than most guys play with normally.

But, at least they bought themselves a month or so. and maybe the really can fix him?

It does, however, leave the pen a man short again (and yes I know Ollie was the mop up guy, but now they no longer even have that emergency option)

Better hope that Valdes is not really damaged, and Neive (after a full week) is ready to go again. And of course, they will actually pitch mejia once in a whle.

But mostly, hope the SPs keep pitching deep!

I still would like to see Valdes to DL with whatever is keeping him from beinding over. And heck, Mejia go to start.

replace those 2 with Acosta/parnell/lejan and Misch.

    1. Kingman 26

My Float Co-Pilot, the last 24-36 hours have been among the best of the last 18 months in Met-dom.

Let Ollie frigin rot, bye bye GMJ (and your ONE RBI), let’s see what Niese can do, let’s see what Tejada can do (Slappy is finally done, you are right), and let’s keep the eyes firmly focused on the VERY bright future of this team.

      OUT WITH THE OLD!!

      In with the Junior Core.

      1. CaseStreet

        “OUT WITH THE OLD!!

        In with the Junior Core.”

You mean until Beltran, Castillo and Perez come back from the DL.

        1. Kingman 26

          Well, uh, maybe….

Still, nice to see what they can do.

I do not think we are going to see Ollie anytime soon, and Beltran, maybe August 1.

        2. oleosmirf

          dont forget Maine

        3. CaseStreet

          oh, forgot Maine, too

          Sorry, just busting your chops.

        4. njstuckintx

In with the junior Cora, you mean. kidding, kidding… Let’s go Tejada!

    2. metsfan4decades

I was thinking the same thing. I’ll bet if you do an MRI of anyone over a certain age you’re going to find something. This at least, given the regs I’m sure exist, allows them to legally put him on the DL and remove him from the 25 man roster for a while.

  9. oleosmirf

this is my number 1 criticism of Omar. Why wasn’t this done right after Ollie refused to go to AAA. He always seems to wait so long when it comes to these obvious moves.

I just dont get why all these moves are delayed. It was clear that GMJ, Ollie, Maine, Catalanatto needed to go but we waited too long and i believe it has hurt us in the standings by 2-3 games. Is he too loyal to his players, or does he not see the problem like we do?

Now we have a problem in the rotation but will Omar go out and try to make a move in the next month or so…or will we wait until its cost us even more…

    1. Kingman 26

You are right on the money here once again, but at least he DID make the moves.

In these spots, as with Bernazard, it seems as though Omar is a very loyal guy, and this really is not the worst trait to have.

At least he has finally started to take action.

And don’t forget Jacobs–he should have been gone the second week of April!

      1. oleosmirf

well this goes back to 2007. Omar is always a few steps behind when it comes to in-season moves. How many games withh this bullpen throw away before he makes a trade for someone…Elmer Dessens and Manny Acosta are not real options.

Im not saying go out and get a closer or a “set up man” but we desperately need a proven reliever or 2 or 3…

        1. Kingman 26

          Totally agreed.

They could try to use Mejia that way, or send him down to the minors to start, instead of basically wasting his season thus far….

          1. wannybackstra

In my opinion, the handling of Mejia is grounds for dismissal for both Jerry (who has a long list of other reasons) and Omar (whose list is also growing).

          2. Kingman 26

I really could not agree more.

I personally think that having Jacobs/Catalanotto/Tatis bat cleanup is grounds for dismissal.

This probably cost us at least a couple of games.

          3. wannybackstra

Hard to believe Catalanotto batted cleanup for the first time in his career while he was one foot away from the unemployment line.

The same can probably said for the other two with regard to batting cleanup while filling out their paperwork for unemployment benefits.

          4. Kingman 26

            Bingo.

Who the hell hides crappy/washed up guys in the cleanup spot?

How many guys rolled their eyes those days when seeing the lineup card?

  10. njstuckintx

I know we are working with the Turtle for a while as Blanco heals up a bit, but what is the plan should Pagan have a cold (won’t mention anything about hamstrings or elbows and the like)? Do they move Frenchy to center, Carter to right?

    1. oleosmirf

Gary Cohen mentioned that Jerry said Bay would be emergency CF…take that for what its worth…

      1. njstuckintx

heh. While I think he could do it, I find it pretty funny that Bay’s biggest fault prior to the Mets signing him was his shoddy defense. That just tickles me pink.

        1. Kingman 26

Nah, that really was just a tiny handful of armchair experts (largely amatuer bloggers) and a small number of widely-read media blowhards.

Teammates, managers, and Boston writers universally said that Bay was a good outfielder, as his meaningful and accurate stats clearly show.

UZR, in Bay’s case, has been exposed as the fraud (in many cases) many of us thought it was.

Not blowing my own horn here, but last winter I got sore fingers from typing over and over again that a guy who played 199 games in left field in Fenway, with 1 error and 20 assists, simply could not be that bad. It is now almost two years since he has made an error.

Not only is he not “defensively challenged” as many nitwits wrote last winter, he is a good outfielder.

          1. njstuckintx

UZR really is becoming a non-stat, at least in my mind.

    2. ceetar

The liar errrr manager said Carter in left and Bay in center. At least he realizes Bay has CF experience

      1. njstuckintx

Ceet, never imagined Lincecum would be chucking up stink bombs this week. :/

        1. ceetar

          Trade Ollie for him

          1. njstuckintx

Was referencing TRDMBFBB (the real dirty mets blog fantasy baseball, patent pending).

  11. wannybackstra

I think if you took an MRI on most active people’s knees you would find some tendinitis. The MLB threshold for using the DL is almost shameful. Until the guy refused to go to AAA he was healthy enough to pitch.

    1. metsfan4decades

And on that note, MLB reviewing the medical records on Ollie as 3 teams ‘requested’ it.

According to tweets I saw though, if Perez claims pain, nothing they can do about it….
