well, hopefully the pro coaching gets his mechanics fine tuned and nailed down, and he ends up being the #1 that some people think he has the potential to be. IOW, Pelfrey jr.
There’s an interesting article about the 2007 draft, specifically Picks #76, #77 & #78, over at AmazinAvenue. A word of caution to Kong, don’t read it!
You really can’t judge a baseball draft until a number of years have passed. Except for a couple of can’t miss, exceptional prospects, most of it is an educated crap shoot. Unless a team (like the Mets under M. Donald Grant) economize their scouting and coaching staffs and have no knowledge of what they’re doing (and even then the blind acorn theory comes into play e.g. Mookie Wilson with the Mets) most teams are competent in their selection process.
not sure what you think about him, but the red Sox got that brentz dude (at one point rumored for the mets) as the supplemental pick I believe for Wagner. At least we got the animal.
I think they got Brentz with the supplemental pick for the Mets signing Bay and Kolbrin Vitek (1st round) and Anthony Raunado (supplemental) for the Braves signing Wagner. From what I can gather they’re all solid picks but you never know how they will work out.

only the mets keep taking their top SP prospects and making them middle relievers hoping they become closers of the future.
Holt should be in the pen any time now. Parnell already is. and don’t get me started on mejia…
I think Harvey really does project to stay as a SP. He seems to be a horse.

anyway, most of the “pros” seem to be OK with the pick. may or may not work out, but was certainly reasonable.
Now, make up for the missing 2nd round pick by signing Maya before someone else does.
Boom, instant SP depth.

yes, a tad depressing. But, that’s life.
At least 2008 is looking good so far.
