wow – I’ll bet this Joe has archives full of some really classic Met stuff.
I admire the Strawman. I read his book and was duly impressed in the fact that not only did he fail numerous times on his attempts to straighten out his life but in the fact that it appears he finally did. He said he had to reach rock bottom before he took a good long look in the mirror. Now he just takes it one day at a time going forward, realizing that had he lived his life differently in his younger years, he possibly could have had one hell of a career HOF.
Said he can’t change the past, only shape his future.

Agreed totally MF4D. I vividly remember when he was drafted, I was at Shea for his very first MLB game, and he was and remains a favorite of mine.
The way he has finally gotten it together is truly inspirational.
I hope he stays clean and stays around the Mets forever.

Agreed.
I’ll always remember him hitting the ceiling in Montreal. That dude could have had it all. Same for Gooden, but that’s another story all together.
