Post Game: Stephen Straswho?

What's that? Nationals Park sold out? For who?

What's that? Nationals Park sold out? For who?

Some guy made his major league debut in Washington, DC tonight.  Apparently he did pretty well.  New York Mets starter Mike Pelfrey did alright himself, becoming the first Mets starter to throw 9 innings this season, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and no walks, while striking out 6.  But San Diego Padres starter Clayton Richard was also quite good, allowing just 1 run over 7 innings.  Neither was around when Ike Davis clobbered an Edward Mujica (2-1) pitch deep into the Queens night for a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th, leading the Mets to a 2-1 win over the Padres and making a winner of relief pitcher Elmer Dessens (1-1).

The Nats have sold how few tickets for tomorrow?

The Nats have sold how few tickets for tomorrow?

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Adrian Gonzalez doubled off the wall in left driving in Chase Headley.  Jose Reyes tied the game in the bottom of the 7th with his first right handed, and second overall, home run of the season.  It stayed that way until Davis sent the Mets fans home to go watch highlights from that other game.

Santana tomorrow!

Santana tomorrow!

Mets find a way again to do it at home. Can they take this show on the road, please?

Mike Pelfrey is finally the pitcher the Mets always knew he could be. And I’m loving it!

Ike just crushed that ball. And he comes tip toeing into home plate for the walk off celebration. Not broken bones, please.

Round 2 tomorrow. Here’s hoping the bats show up for Johan.

if the rain doesn’t take it away.

if it does rain out, they almost have to play 2 thursday, since i don’t think the pods come back to NY, do they?

also wonder what it does to the short rotation. Really don’t know what happens if they have to reach for a spot starter!

      1. metsfan4decades

Rain…didn’t realize that was in the forecast for tomorrow.

Yeah, you’re right, they would probably try to play 2 on Thursday. And who the heck do we use for a spot starter? Or does someone go on short rest?

        1. stickguy

it would be an issue next week, and Johan is the guy that would come up a day short. So there would have to be a spot starter. Santana ain’t going on short rest.

          1. trs86

Would it? With Monday being an off day?

          2. rustyjr

Shutup I got that get together at the game tomorrow !

          3. trs86

LOL, yeah good luck with that. Can you ask the pitching coach about Santana’s arm angle?

      2. trs86

We would not need one would we? We have an off day again next Monday.

So it would be Johan and Niese on Friday, Dickey on Saturday, Taka on Sunday, no one on Monday and back to Pelfrey… on normal rest right?

        1. stickguy

more off days? they have like 2 a week now it seems.

          1. trs86

One every Monday through the 21st. Do not play another Monday until June 28th.

        2. trs86

Santana would be pitching on Wednesday after pitching on Friday. That’s normal rest right?

          1. stickguy

santana scheduled for tomorrow, right? If Weds gets rained out, 2 on thursday, with him being one of them. so the off day would let him stay on schedule.

    2. ceetar

I’ll be there! No idea where I’m sitting, but i’ll be there!

  4. Mr North Jersey

Nice Grave I was wondering how you was going to work Stras into your post.

BTW I wanna thank you for the great effort you put into updating every1 today with the MLB Draft.

You went above and beyond in my book and I am sure everyone else agrees.

    1. trs86

      Agreed

    2. metsfan4decades

      Ditto from me.

  5. stickguy

and to think, the Mets were never going to hit any HRs at citifield.

I also predict Ike is going to lead the team this year. Just a hunch.

    1. trs86

Not a bad prediction. I will go with Wright.

    2. Mr North Jersey

Well we know who it won’t be. LoL

      1. trs86

        Castillo.

        1. Mr North Jersey

LoL sure, add him to the list also.

          1. trs86

            Cora.

          2. Mr North Jersey

hahahahha sure add him to the list also. I am sure eventually you’ll figure it out.

          3. trs86

            Ollie.

          4. Mr North Jersey

Your getting warmer but I don’t think i can play tag with you all night so I will just let you off the hook and tell you what we both know you already know who I am talking of.

            Bay.

          5. Mr North Jersey

With that I will bid you a good night.

          6. trs86

Nah, he’s gotta a much better chance than any of these guys.

          7. trs86

Yes I know Bay has pissed on your cornflakes tonight and you have been doing your thing with him all night. Again, he is struggling right now, we get it.

          8. GravediggerHebner

Oh, I thought you were talking about Murphy.

          9. trs86

LOL, I was going with Santos next.

          10. Mr North Jersey

Sorry Grave It was an inside joke TRS knew who I was talking about he was just playing dumb.

I was giving Bay a hard time 2nite in the dugout calling to trade him for a slugger or bat him 8th till he gets over his Beltran syndrome of struggling the 1st year.

Something that clearly was in jest as we all know that is unrealistic and never going to happen.

TRS simply wanted to come to Bay’s defense so I had some fun with him.

          11. GravediggerHebner

Well you probably remember Saint Torre batting ARod 8th when he was slumping, do Bay 8th is not so crazy.

    Nice heeadline by Amazin’ Avenue

Mets 2, Padres 1: Ike’s Ball Dessens Into The Night

    Very nice indeed.

    1. trs86

      LOL

    2. GravediggerHebner

It’s clever but it’s no “Stephen Straswho?” 8)

      1. trs86

        Agreed.

      2. Mr North Jersey

Sir no one has more clever lines than you. I still say your lying to us and you are not a professional writer. You always have this knack of expressing yourself so well using the written word.

        1. GravediggerHebner

It all started in religious instructions classes. The priest asked an extra credit question on a test which was “What is a sacramental?” I had no idea so I wrote “A sacramental is a the capital of a california” and I got full credit. I’ve been doing that ever since.

          1. Mr North Jersey

            :-)

          2. metsfan4decades

            LOL – nice.
The priest and nuns who taught me in my 12 year Catholic school education did not have that sense of humor…

  7. Mr North Jersey

I am waiting for Dirty’s MUA post. He said it would be a surprise and to not peek. But shyt if he is not takin long.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Well he better hurry. My restless legs are falling asleep.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Freakin Dirty he scheduled it for tomorrow.

Will have to wait till morning.

      2. ceetar

I’m not waiting. Want to get to bed so I can get to work so I can leave a bit early to get to Citi since i’m supposed to be there at 6:15..

        1. Mr North Jersey

Kool I hope to go one day but right now its not in my immediate future.

  8. ceetar

I would’ve sent Pelfrey back out there, fyi.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      You to Ceetar?

      Why?

      1. ceetar

Because it was pitching. well. I don’t like changing pitchers, especially when the guy’s only thrown 103.

        1. Mr North Jersey

How many pitches is enough then if I can ask?

          1. ceetar

            for Pelf? Probably around 120.

          2. Mr North Jersey

            Ouch!

Anyway here is the url to Ike’s walkoff homer.

    2. GravediggerHebner

He could have continued I agree. But I think it was one of those “I warmed up KRod so I have to use him or he’ll beat up Randy Niemann again” things.

  9. stickguy

you think you guys got problems?

the GM of my fantasy team just informed me that he picked up Aaron heilmann (dropping John Maine).

Yes, our team sucks this year.

OH, the reason? Apparently there is some talk that old Aaron might be taken over as closer for AZ! Now that could be fun.

  10. metsfan4decades

I must have seen a different ending then FWIGC.com did. Original post game had Ike with a walk off GS. Some typo, huh? LOL.

  11. CaseStreet

First time seeing strasburg. Damn his stuff is nasty. Happy the nats got some things going for them.

Too bad pelf didn’t get the win but when you have analysts on sny discussing who the mets ace is, you know he’s arrived.

  12. CaseStreet

Saw a guy on the subway with a #42 Mets Lee tshirt. My heart skipped a beat.

    1. GravediggerHebner

      Knicks?

      1. CaseStreet

Lol. Shows you how much I’ve watched the knicks this year. Can’t blame me though, I just caught a glimpse and the colors are the same
