Man Up Awards For Tuesday Night

9 game win streak at home

9 game win streak at home

While Citi Field does merit consideration for an MUA, its not a man. Just to be clear if Citi Field was a man though then hands down it would be an MUA winner…but its not a man…and this is getting weird…anyway, to the MUA’s

ACE…next…

Perhaps the only real contender for David Wrights “golden boy” title might just be the “rookie” Ike Davis. Ike hit a walk off shot to win Tuesdays game, a Man Up shot at that. In the interview with Kevin Burkhardt after the game, Ike credits the NY fans for their amazing play at home. Ike is quickly becoming a fan favorite and its not hard to see why with what he brings to the table. Ike had a good glove at 1st and has what some call “easy power”. Ike’s shot went to the upper, UPPER deck…what I like to call “Adam Dunn territory”. I have never seen anyone except Mark Reynolds and Adam Dunn hit balls as far as Ike. Great going kid, keep it up!

HONORABLE MENTION

Jose Reyes for getting Mike Pelfrey off the hook with his home run to tie the game

Angel Pagan for his 2-5 game and team leading .294 average

David Wright for his total ownage of Clayton Richard and 2-4 game

Francisco Rodriguez, Elmer Dessens and Pedro Feliciano for getting the job done

    Ike “Moon Shot” Davis, indeed!

  2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Ike did look pretty bad before the HR

    1. stickguy

H eis a roolie, They will do that at times. ANd he really did not have a huge # of MiL ABs, so still on the learning curve.

But, he has really solidified the IF defense.

ANd you gotta admit, he has a flair for the dramatic.

  3. metsfan4decades

My favorite game of this year so far.
I love the fact that with each win, it’s not always the same folks with MUAs. Means that all are contributing on any given night with these wins.

  4. Mr North Jersey(

So like I was saying I thought I had posted a comment that went something like

LoL so that was the surprise.

    CiTi Fields nice…..

OK I admit it I would of never guessed it.

I was going to revoke my membership had it been Bay. What a bust he’s turned out to be.

I was Gestapoed by TRS Which I guess in a sense is like being Cerrone’d.

    Hopefully this will not continue.

    1. metsgirl31

      Bait

    2. trs86

      Gestapoed. :)

    3. trs86

LOL, just giving you a hard time too NJ.

      1. Mr North Jersey

I am sure that was your intent but if its ok with you id rather you put a strike through my comment then actually go in and delete them. I would appreciate that courtesy.

        1. trs86

Never done it before and never intend on doing it again. Just giving you a little bit of a hard time while in turn playing a joke.

Still don’t see the need for the constant baiting but that’s for a different time and different discussion.

          1. Mr North Jersey

            Thank you

          2. trs86

            Welcome

    4. Kingman 26

“What a bust he’s turned out to be.”

      You are kidding, right?

Come on; look at every other stat other than HR/RBI, look at fielding, look at baserunning, look at hustle, look at fundamentals, look at intangibles.

      This is silly.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I agree that he’s not a bust, but his production has not been what we all expected in terms of HRs and RBIs. But then I’ll hold my judgment on Bay till he has 1-2 seasons with the Mets. Kinda like Beltran.

      2. youngvalerawest

I wouldn’t call him a bust but there have been too many occasions this season when he’s had the chance to drive in a big run and didn’t put the bat on the ball.

But I guess that could be said for just about anybody.

        1. Kingman 26

          Thank you BittigerLathamPacella.

          :-)

      3. Mr North Jersey

King you are correct I was kidding. It was an inside joke I was having with TRS because of a conversation we had last night in the dugout.

If you notice Metsgirl called it bait.

You are correct when you say “look at every other stat other than HR/RBI, look at fielding, look at baserunning, look at hustle, look at fundamentals”

BUST is a stretch to say the least.

But I am concerned and have expressed my thoughts on him throughout the day.

        1. Kingman 26

Well, once again please accept my apologies…I missed the joke as I am not a dugout attendee….sorry Mr North; it was so out of character for you to make a remark like that.

          1. Mr North Jersey

No apology necessary King. You did nothing wrong at all sir.

You acted as you should have responding to what you felt was an unjust statement. I wouldnt have it any other way.

  5. metsgirl31

Jose probably should have his own MUA instead of an honorable mention…without Jose’s heroics then Ike, or probably anyone for that matter, doesn’t get a MUA.

    1. trs86

Very true. I think Dirty TRIES to keep it to one for each.

    2. metsfan4decades

Yes, tough call. Some nights, I guess you have to almost have ‘co-MUAs’ for offense.

Love the Citi Field MUA – LOL…

      1. metsgirl31

True. I guess its a good problem to have…trying to limit the MUAs cuz we have too many candidates.

  6. GravediggerHebner

Often men, right or wrong, refer to inanimate objects as female, like a warship “she served us well” and so on. So Citi Field may not be a man, but could it be a woman? If so, what would “her” award be?

    1. Mr North Jersey

This will require some deep thinking. Well I’m out. ;-) LoL

    2. CaseStreet

hmm, she keeps the balls in

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

Many bats and balls fall short…

can’t really say, but you know what I mean… :D

    4. CaseStreet

The “You Better Swing A Big Bat If You Want To Score” Award

  7. CaseStreet

I’m gonna have to start an unappreciated award. Not Pagan’s fault that Bay sucked last night. His 3B to RF was quite a shot. Not an Ike Davis shot, but still, quite a shot.

    Switch Bay and Wright

    1. trs86

Bay should have never been hitting ahead of Wright to start with.

      1. CaseStreet

        Unfortunately, it’s Beltran’s fault.

I know many are sour on Beltran because he’s been out for so long but I think we really need him back to extend the lineup and put hitters where they belong.

        Reyes-Pagan-Wright-Beltran-Bay-Davis-Barajas-Castillo

        Now that’s a lineup.

The guy has been one of the best defensive CF, and quietly plays through whatever injuries he has. He may not be Alex Rodriguez or Albert Pujols but you can’t tell me a guy with an OPS since 06 of .982, .878, .876 and .915 shouldn’t be on this team.

Plus, Beltran will be with us for another year. Any speculation of trading Beltran is crazy talk. It’ll never in a million years happen.

        1. trs86

If you can have an OF with Bay, Beltran, Pagan and Frenchy you have the best OF in the league.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

            Offensively AND Defensively.

          2. CaseStreet

I’d love to have Frenchy and Carter on the bench. That’s some good power coming off the bench.

Play Frenchy against lefties and Pagan against righties and let Pagan spell Beltran.

        2. DNDJohan aka kistics

I was one of few that entertained the idea of trading Beltran because of how his contract is laid out. BUT that’s ONLY IF the Mets were out of race this season and/or next season for that matter.

I agree with you that Beltran has been a top CF in the league and is a real professional. I also agree with you that he should not be traded as long as the Mets are in contention.

          1. CaseStreet

yeah, gladly the Mets are in contention though Ken Rosenthal seems to think they’re not contenders.

If for some reason the Mets are in last place next year by the trade deadline then sure, see if:
            1. Beltran would accept a trade,
            2. Any team would be willing to take on his contract, and
            3. Whatever prospects we get would be better then the supplemental* pick we’d get for Beltran.

*We won’t get a compensatory draft pick by offering Beltran arbitration because his contract stipulates that the Mets won’t offer him arbitration.

          2. Mr North Jersey

On that note any updates on Beltran?

          3. Kingman 26

He has officially been cleared to resume all Nintendo-related baseball activities…baby steps….

          4. CaseStreet

I hear his mole has been spotted doing some light running.

          5. stickguy

right. no supplemental pick either. so if they don’t trade him, when he leaves, they get bumpkis, other than some serious salary relief.

          6. CaseStreet

no, I think they still get a supplemental for losing a Type A. They just don’t get the compensation pick.

  8. DNDJohan aka kistics

Things leak when you are not going well… but then they are still competing and should still be the team to beat in NL East

    http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/194770-werth-not-pleased-with-managers-comments

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Nice find Kistics.

I kind of agree with Werth on this one if that was Manuel’s actual comments.

Unless the manager has had some type of conversation with Werth about this in the past I think its unfair to suggest that is what is weighing on his mind.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I just thought it’s funny when a team struggles, something like this becomes an issue.

        1. Mr North Jersey

The Phillies will be interesting to watch indeed. I still say they have some Aces left to play possibly. 1 being a trade to bring in a starter and 2 maybe calling up their prospect. What’s his name? Domonic Brown I believe.

  9. CaseStreet

BTW, anyone catch Tatis punch Pagan in the head when they were celebrating Ike’s walk off? Pagan instinctively put up his hands and threw out a jab. You know it hurt cause he was rubbing his head while walking into the dugout.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      lol i missed that.

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Yeah I saw that. Tatis did that to GMJ for Blanco & Barajas’ walk-off HRs.

      I know I have no life…..

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

      you can see it here

      http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100608&content_id=10954124&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym

it looks like Tatis starts to beat Jose at first and the moves on to Pagan. Funny.

  10. DNDJohan aka kistics

    It’s a slow day at work… :)

    http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8808875

This is a footage of different TV/Radio broadcasters of Strasburg’s 14th K. Notice the pitch speed between 2 TV broadcasts. The difference is 4 mph. I’m not sure how those radar guns work and it’s probably timing issue more than anything, but the pitch speeds seem overrated when there’s that much difference from one TV station to another.

    1. trs86

      Agreed.

    2. Mr North Jersey

your link is wrong this is the right one.
      http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8819459

The funny thing is that its the Pirates feed that has the higher MPH. 99mph as opposed to Nats 95mph.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Oh yeah.. the link I had was Strasburg getting cream pies… thanks for the correct link.

Anyways, my point is that Johan can easily be throwing 93-94 mph based on some other radar guns. Who knows, Twins radar gun could be 3-4 mph higher than the Mets radar gun. I mean there’s no doubt Johan’s velocity dropped a little, but I think it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

        1. Mr North Jersey

I think Johan’s velocity has dropped but it hasn’t manifested itself to be an issue so no one seems too concerned over it.

I don’t know why the difference in speeds in the video except to say it has always been know that there are 2 guns a fast one and a slow one this may just be that but without further evidence we will never know.

    3. Mr North Jersey

But whatever you believe there is no doubt that this kid can bring some serious heat with the best of them.

      1. Kingman 26

        He looked frigin ridiculous.

        Unreal movement on that fastball.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Honestly I was hoping he’d get hammered not because I think he sucks but just so the hype can die down. Now after what he did it’s only going to get worse.

          1. GravediggerHebner

I’m not a fan of the DH so I love that baseball, coincidentally or not post-PEDs, seems to be returning to more of a pitchers’ game. Last night’s Mets game was “baseball like it oughta be” in my opinion.

So in that light I’m excited that Strasburg has come to the majors and except against the Mets I hope he does very well and has a long prosperous career.

But I can’t discuss how well he did last night without noting that it was against the lowly Pirates, hardly an offensive juggernaut. Apparently his next few starts also play out against lesser offensive teams. I will watch with interest as his career unfolds, but I won’t start on his HOF plaque until he pitches well against some better hitting teams.

          2. trs86

Did you happen to hear Bob Costas last night. :( man that was some lovefest. Compared him to every great pitcher ever. Talking about his plaque at Cooperstown.

          3. Mr North Jersey

Yes I am glad to hear you wish him well Grave except against us of course.

I too wish him well as a fan of baseball.

I think any talk of Cooperstown by anyone fan or media alike is way overblown and I would think must be taken with a grain of salt.

Let him earn whatever accolades he gets as everyone else did that came before him. I am sure if he was posed the same question he wouldn’t have it any other way.

It was a historic night for the organization I am happy for the long suffering Nats fans I have no animosity towards them at all.

I look forward to great duels against him with us coming out ahead in the end.

  11. Mr North Jersey

Did anyone see the Manuel interview over on Metsblog?

Manuel said he needs Tejada to be somewhere between a .250 and a .260 hitter. put the ball in play get the bunts down type of hitter.

Tejada needs to step it up then he currently at .235 though he is hitting .273 since being called up.

    1. CaseStreet

aka Slappy Junior, though Slappy is usually a .290+ hitter

      1. stickguy

I think the days of slappy hitting .290 or having a .380+ OBP are done and gone.

combined with his inability to play every day, and even more ridiculous lack of power, I hope that he never makes it back onto the field.

    2. stickguy

If Tejada is just a .255 slapy hitter with a good glove, then he truly is just keeping the position warm for Havens.

My prediction? Unless Tejada or Castillo seriously pick it up, if Havens does not get hurt again, and shows a respectable comfort level at 2B, he could easily by up by 8/1 if he continues to handle AA pitching. That would be another couple hundred or so ABs under his belt.

      The kid always could hit.

  12. Mr North Jersey

    This from WFAN’s BLOG
    http://blogs.wfan.com/back-on-top-in-june/

“How about Fausto Carmona and Mark Gruzielanek for Jennry Mejia, Josh Thole, and Angel Pagan? Pagan would give the Indians another option in center with the micro fracture surgery to Grady Sizemore. Mejia throws 98mph and will spark interest of any team while Josh Thole is a significant catching prospect. Let’s face it, Cleveland needs a lot of help. I’d be glad to help them if it meant getting a large sized sinker-baller to pitch in Citi Field. Carmona at 6’4 230 is only 26 years old and is signed through 2011. After a career best 19-8 2007 and the departure of C.C Sabathia, Fausto seemed to not be able to handle the pressures of ace status in Cleveland. He had control problems and even had a stint in the minor leagues. This year, however, he’s 4-5 with a very respectable 3.49 era on a last place team. Joining to a team where he would move into the 3 spot of the rotation could be a perfect fit. Think about it! Who do you want and for what price?”

I will stand back now and await for reactions.

    1. youngvalerawest

Not the least of the very many problems with this proposal is that Cleveland has probably the best catching prospect in all of baseball.

That said, I would take a chance on Fausto Carmona for a more reasonable price.

    2. stickguy

      Uh, no.

FOr one think, Grudz was just DFA’s yesterday, so you can have him for free.

and if you are trading that much talent, you better be getting way more back that ollie v2.0.

Pagan is going nowhere anyway with Beltran MIA.

I doubt you have to give up that much for Haren, a vastly better pitcher overall.

Now, if they can get Carmona for a much more reasonable package (and as always, I am a terrible judge of value) such as THole + gee? Or something similar?

I would trade Mejia for Haren though. No brainer there.

    3. trs86

Not a good trade at all. First of all we need Pagan more than they do. LOL. 2nd that would be like Kazmir for Zambrano all over again.

  13. Mr North Jersey

LOL FRANCESA opens the show saying as the Mets continue to put 500 in the rear view mirror I want to touch on The World Cup.

    hahahahahahahaha

You can’t make this shyt up.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Much more absurd to me is that Mike thinks that AJ Burnett invented the pie-in-the-face celebration last season with the Yankees, which he abhors, but thinks it’s even more ridiculous that “other teams copy that stupid celebration.” Yeah Mike, the Yankees invented everything. Douche.

      1. Mr North Jersey

I was just writing that also Grave. hahahahahahhaa
I was like well you learn something new everday I had no idea the pie in the face of shaving cream during a interview was invented by the Yankees. hahahahahahahahah

Next he will say the Yankees invented the internet.
