This Day In Mets Infamy : The ” Don’t Go Into The Ike Quietly !” Edition 06-09-10

Last night was hands down the most exciting game of the season ! It was chock full of exciting defensive plays, and just enough offense from our bats to excommunicate the San Diego Padres from a win last night ! Mike Pelfrey has finally come into his own – throwing nine innings of five hit , one run ball on just a little more than one hundred pitches. Jose Reyes hit a game tying homer that for some reason the umpires had to take three plus minutes to review. But the real star of the evening was Ike Davis and his mammoth – and I mean MAMMOUTHbomb in the eleventh inning against Edward Mujica ! That ball landed in the tenth row of the Pepsi porch – and I have to say that that could quite be the longest homer hit in the shot history of Citi Field ! The Mets are now a gaudy 23 – 9 at home, and if they can keep this up and play at least .500 ball on the road – the Mets could possible take this division ! I feel confident of a Johan win tonight , lets just hope the Mets bats supply him with a lot more run support than it did last week.

” Here are our heroes from last nights game !”

And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!

Happy Birthday wishes go out to outfielder Billy Baldwin (1951) . He was obtained in the infamous trade that sent Rusty Staub and Bill Laxton to the Detroit Tigers for the past his prime Mickey Loilich.

Pitcher from the ’87 season, Tom Edens is 49 (1961) He was the minor player sent to the Phillies in the Lenny Dykstra and Roger McDowell to the Phillies for Juan Samuel deal.

Pitcher from ’03, Jason Anderson is 31 (1979) .

New York Mets released utility-man, Tim Corcoran on June 9, 1986. He is one of my all time Mets scrubs.

New York Mets traded pitcher,Terry Leach to the Kansas City Royals for minor league pitcher, Aguedo Vasquez on June 9, 1989. Terry Leach was the Nelson Figueroa of the ’80′s – but with more talent !

New York Mets signed free agent outfielder, Lou Thornton on June 9, 1989. This would be his second go round with the Mets.

New York Mets signed free agent relief pitcher,Doug Sisk on June 9, 1990. Mets fans everywhere proceeded to cry out ” WHY !!” in horror .

New York Mets traded reliver,Tim Burke to the New York Yankees for relief pitcher, Lee Guetterman on June 9, 1992.

New York Mets traded pitcher,Blas Minor to the Seattle Mariners for minor league third baseman, Randy Vickers on June 9, 1996.

New York Mets traded second baseman,Kaz Matsui to the Colorado Rockies for utility infielder,Eli Marrero on June 9, 2006. Kaz never did ever quite catch on with the Mets fan base, and when his job was taken away from him by Jose Valentin – it was obvious that his days with the Mets were numbered.

Mo Vaughn and Rex Ryan held a eating contest at Citi Field last night – after all the carnage that was inflicted on the Premio sausage – it was ruled a draw !!

Here’s hoping the Mets can take this show on the road. If we start winning series there, we’ll be in this race all season.

    1. rustyjr

Well going up against the o’s & the indians should help

      1. metsfan4decades

Here’s hoping. I know those two teams are terrible but even the terrible teams win ball games occasionally. I just hope it’s not against the Mets…

        1. ceetar

Hopefully the Orioles win the next two and get their winning out of the way before facing the real NY team.

  2. fongy2

    Loveya Rusty…BUT take another look
at what Terry Leach did for us in
    ’87&’88…..Nelson Figuera???..C’mon!

    1. rustyjr

Fongmeister – I’m talking in the sense that the man was treated like a yoyo by the mets – leach had a Loy more talent than figgy but he was just as disrespected IMO

      1. fongy2

        O.K….Gotcha…Sorta like Heath Bell :)

        1. rustyjr

Except for the fact that bell is oneof the best closets today

          1. njstuckintx

Closet, eh? Hopefully those skeletons stay where they are.

      2. Kingman 26

My friend, have a great day!!

        :-)

Damn, is there footage of that sausage eating contest? I bet shares in the sausage company will be up today, as the whole tri-state area’s supply must have been seriously depleted.

If you have not seen highlights of Strasburg, do it NOW. Most amazing kid pitcher since Doc in 84-85.

Not just the real thing, but an instant star. He looked UNREAL.

        1. rustyjr

Yeah the kid is a pheonom – I hope he pulls a Tim Leary lol I’m kidding

          1. fongy2

Yeah, don’t start wit dat Rust!
            No bad kharma!
It’s like all these Phillie fans I’m surrounded by down here…
Cryin’ over “The Phils injury problems” Yeah,
            like I keep tellin’
            them…
            Cry me a river!

          2. metsfan4decades

            Ha! Cry me a river.
You’ve got that right, fongy. No sympathy from Met fans on that.

  3. njstuckintx

The rare Met-Yankee trades. Always for scrubs.

  4. fongy2

I’ll tell ya, I’m tryin’ to stay
grounded in my expectations of this
team…BUT I’m starting to get the
feeling we may be on to something special here. Over the years it’s
often seemed to me many of our average
to above teams lacked heart, guts….
    Whatever you wanna call it.
Here’s hoping Omar doesn’t just sit on his hands and do nothing.
    This team needs a starter!…..And
needs one soon. I’m not talkin’ about
waiting on John Maine to come back AND
Pitch like he did 3, 4 yrs ago.
Seems to me there are pipe-dreams like
Oswalt,Lee& Haren…..OR Omar can focus on the realistic like Millwood,
Westbrook or dare I say Brett Myers.
Any of those would serve as a very good half-season fit/ #3 SP.
Here’s hoping Omar won’t wait on this
too long, there’s not that much room for error with this group.

    1. njstuckintx

I agree, Shore up a SP slot ASAP, move Taka back to the pen.

    2. Kingman 26

Boy do I agree with all of this.

Last night seemed like the team has gained SO much confidence, especially in the Mike and Ike show.

But still, we won 5 of 6 from the Skanks and the Phails, then laid another egg on the road.

They MUST win at least 4 of 6 in BAL and CLE; the schedule gets much harder for a while after that.

Regardless, this team is being transformed before our very eyes, and is the embryo of a team which will contend for years.

The first month was horrible for me, because Mike Jacobs and GMJ are not MLB players really, not for a serious team, and watching them play and Jacobs hit cleanup really just turned me off to the team more seriously than since 1993; I give Jerry and Omar serious credit for getting rid of these useless guys. I know I was not here and complaining a lot, but hey, I was right about both of these stiffs from the day we signed them.

And getting Ollie and Maine the hell out of the rotation has dramatically helped too. Let Ollie rot, and let Maine pitch in the 7th out of the pen.

And yes, we really are 1-2 starters away from serious contention. Who knows, maybe just one if Dickey really is a late-blooming Wakefield and if Niese is for real.

Last night was a 2006-style or 1980s-style win.

      1. fongy2

        Indeed!…And re: your
        Dickey/Niese comments,
it happens. If they can be counted on to
just keep the team in games, giving us 5,6+ solid innings AND
Johan/Pelf keep going deeply into gms, another
        solid, legit #3 type SP
        can reall,really help
        out an over-worked BP.
        Adding Takahashi back
        to KRod,Feliciano et,al
        will also obviously be
        helpful.

        1. Kingman 26

Agreed again with every last word.

Again, as much as I dislike Jerry, and as much as you dislike Omar, some serious credit is due for the changes they have made, and for this time bringing in secondary players like Barajas, Blanco, Dickey, Taka, etc, and bringing up Ike.

Cora, well, maybe he cannot really play anymore, but did you see the two guys who were running out of the dugout leading the charge yelling to each other after Ike’s blast? Frenchy and Cora. Maybe Cora really DOES have some serious leadership/intangible skills.

And Omar was a frigin genius to not sign Lackey to a ridiculous deal which his career does not merit, and to not sign one of the garbage dump of Pineiro/Wolf/Sheets/Harden and especially the rancid joke Marquis. Being a Met fan from Staten Island does NOT automatically make one a good pitcher.

          :-)

          1. njstuckintx

“And Omar was a frigin genius to not sign Lackey to a ridiculous deal which his career does not merit”. I know this is going to get some panties in a bunch here, but this is how I feel about Lee.

          2. Kingman 26

I totally agree, as should anyone who looks at Lee’s career.

Lee is not close to having had a career like Oswalt/Halladay/etc.

          3. njstuckintx

And while Oswalt does have some age/injury concerns, to me, he’s the easiest to acquire of the top flight pitchers (barring that whole NTC thing) and is reasonably priced. Yes, in a vaccuum I would want Haren, then Lee, then Oswalt (then the millwoods and such), but we are not in a vaccuum.

          4. fongy2

I agree again. I give credit where due AND my mantra this off-season was Bay,Lackey& as many role players as posible
            needed to be signed.
We do know though that Omar has gotten very, very lucky with Dickey who in some way
            has really saved us.
I agree on Cora and have argued the point of importance of a good clubhouse with certain
            folks here….
            Namely TRS.
Strange that w/o Delgado taking up so much air in the room and influencing, especially the younger latin players
            how loose this team looks.
Don’t get me wrong,I’m a huge Delgado fan…maybe more so than most BUT when you have a Delgado and Sheffield in the clubhouse,THEY have a huge role in setting
            the tone of a team.

          5. trs86

No doubt. What strikes me about Cora is there is no doubt that he wants to be a manager someday and it’s almost like he is training himself for that.

As a coach, there is nothing better than to have a bench player who has his sights set on being a coach someday. They are very connected to things a lot of players just don’t give a damn about.

          6. Mr North Jersey

I will say this to the Minaya is a genius comment.

Watching Pelfrey pitch the way he has so far in 2010. You can see he has pitched like the front end starter the Mets went out looking for this past off season.

Now the Mets decision to not sign a Lackey will pay off if the money he would of spent to sign him he uses to get another great player that only makes us better and it helps the Mets possibly make the post season.

Say what you will about Lackey but come September and October is when the outcome will start to be decided if Lackey was worth the money or not to the Red Sox.

See signing a Lackey was to help us get into the post season and to a World Series. If we do that without Lackey or if the Red Sox fail to do it with Lackey then Minaya will look like a genius.

          7. trs86

Tell that to my fantasy team. He’s killing it.

      2. metsfan4decades

It truly was the Mike and Ike show last night.

And I couldn’t agree more. We need one more SP soon.

        1. ceetar

now now, we can’t leave Jose out.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

            Jimmy who?
            Hanley who?

          2. fongy2

            Again,
            As goes Jose Reyes…
            So go The Mets!!!

          3. metsfan4decades

Absolutely not. Without Reyes, we don’t even get to extra innings….

      3. ceetar

        Maine’s getting a start soon isn’t he?

btw, Strasburg has given up as many home runs at home as Mike Pelfrey. aww..

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

          straswho?

  5. fongy2

Best Rob Dibble quote of the night,
in the sixth after The Nats rallied
to take the lead…”OUR big boys really came through there, including
OUR future Hall of Famer at Thirdbase”
    …Hey Dibble, …..Calm Down!!

    1. rustyjr

Our third baseman ? Uh dibs when did you ever don a Nats jersey ?

      1. fongy2

        The guy really is BAD!
Oh, and early in the game called Ian Desmond
“One of the best Shortstops in the game”
NOW, I’m a big Desmond fan since he was our SS
down here with Th H’Burg Sens and saw ALOT of him….BUT again, Dibs..Calm Down!

    2. Mr North Jersey

      Dibble is a joke.

Do Nats fans down in the D.C. area agree with most of his OFF DA WALL comments?

      1. fongy2

        What fans????

        1. trs86

          The ones that ESPN bought.

  6. darknova306

I love a good pitching duel. Really wish the offense could have given Pelfrey the win though, he earned one but got the Santana treatment.

    1. Kingman 26

I think 1-0 or 2-1 pitching duels are as exciting as baseball gets—EVERY pitch, EVERY play, EVERYTHING is hugely important and can decide the game.

What a great game to win.

      1. fongy2

I am completely with you there my friend.
THAT was a baseball game last night!
        Should have even made
        Joe West happy…..

  7. njstuckintx

And it must be brought up again. That was an absolute MOON SHOT by Mr. Davis. He may have his rookie moments here and there, but with the bat, the D, the presence he’s brought to the lineup… He sure isn’t acting Rookie-ish.

    1. rustyjr

That has to be the longest shot in citi history – that was a kingman shot !

      1. Kingman 26

        Thank you; I agree.

  8. udontmesswthejohan

I have absolutely no idea what’s gotten into Mike Pelfrey, but I’m loving it. This is obviously night and day compared to last year, but he’s performing head and shoulders above his break out season two years ago. It’s as if everything he has struggled through has made him better and everything is clicking. let’s hope it continues, because with him and Johan going every 5th day, you got a great shot at winning.

As far as Ike, I love this kid. I think he’s going to be a terrific player for this team for a long time. Beatuiful swong and excellent D. He’s John Olerud with more power.

  9. fongy2

One more thing, while I’m someone who
never and has never booed any Met…
AND still have a hard time with all the home-team booing which has become
the norm over the past five or so years, Imust say the booing of JBay
last night kinda made me smile.
I don’t know what the heck is goin’
on with him but as we enter the middle
of June he still sits at 3Hr&24rbi’s.
    Not exactly earning his keep.
Don’t know why OR what it is BUT we
keeping on waiting and waiting on
the guy who was at the top of The A.L.
in HR’s&RBI’s last yr and been a pretty consistant 30HR/100RBI guy
    for about a decade now.

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Maybe he’s injured or maybe he needs time to adjust in NY. Kinda like Beltran did in his first year.

But what I noticed with Bay is that when he’s struggling, he hacks at everything. But when he’s hot, he’ll be very patient at the plate. Maybe that’s true for all struggling players, but it might be a good idea to take a pitch or two Jason…

      1. fongy2

O.K. understood BUT he’s not a kid, spent time in Boston(maybe notNY but also not KC),
signed for four yrs mid-winter so had plenty of time to house-hunt etc AND again it’s almost mid-June!
Now, if it’s the “pressure” of playing in NY…Well he
        ain’t seen nothing yet!
Because, theres been little pressure yet put
on this group due to the lowered expectations.
Whatever it is, he really needs to get
        going!

        1. trs86

I am not going to get into this debate today as I think we are about as impatient of a fanbase possible. The guy admits he is struggling and while doing that still has an OPS over .800. He is doing things to help the team both offensively and defensively even while struggling. I am fine with that. He’s a very streaky player as evident by his HR totals last year. He had a month with 1 HR and a month with 10 HR. We knew this about Bay coming in. I am not concerned. For those that are, have at it.

          1. fongy2

            Theres nothing to debate!
I like him, always have and am glad we have him. Just sayin’ he needs to wake up a little!

          2. DNDJohan aka kistics

I agree that he has been helping the team win. But it is frustrating to see him swinging at bad pitches like he did yesterday.

This team is just full of streaky players, which can be a problem.

          3. trs86

No doubt. At least he is keeping his OBP up. It’s just the last 7 days he’s : .176 .222 .235 .458
            That’s real bad.
If you go back 28 days though he is :.315 .388 .478 .867
            Which is fine with me.

        2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Agreed. But what would be the satisfactory numbers from him? 30/100? 25/95? I think at this pace, I’ll settle for 25/90 for this season, but I would eventually want greater numbers from him.

Having said that, maybe JBay’s numbers are being affected by Citi Field. Maybe he’s forcing himself to hit HRs after few that stayed in the ball park.

          1. fongy2

            That said,he’s on a
            7hr/65rbi pace.

          2. trs86

And one streaky month changes that. Again last year he had a combined 2 months of .213 BA, .327 OBP, OPS under .700, 5 HR, 25 RBI and only 13 XBH in 217 PA.
Then of course he had months of
            .324 .490 .634 1.123 with 5 HR
            .264 .355 .623 .978 with 10 HR and 30 RBI
            .289 .400 .697 1.097 with 9 HR
            .310 .386 .580 .966 with 7 HR

            He is a streaky hitter.

          3. trs86

I think it’s interesting but all 3 of his HR have came at home.

          4. DNDJohan aka kistics

that is true, but there were couple fly outs at home where Bay’s expression was like “WTF?”

          5. trs86

I am sure. I am much more concerned about the road though. I think at home our offense will be fine/aided by our pitching. The road issues is something I think Jerry mentioned. That our players may be trying to make up for Citi on the road by trying to hit HR.

          6. fongy2

            More strange than interesting!

          7. trs86

            Uh ok.

    2. Kingman 26

HR and RBI are of course the main things we acquired Bay for, but EVERY other stat of his is on pace for career norms or better, he is 8-for-8 in SB, has played very good defense, and may indeed be a really good influence in the clubhouse.

He needs to hit some more HR, but he is still a productive, valuable, and dangerous player.

Sorry to stick this needle again too, but where the hell are the UZR geeks and the “Bay is defensively challenged” numbskulls?

      1. stickguy

D is fine. Very professional ball player. Obviously the HRs are MIA.

but even with his OK slash line, would it kill him to maybe actually get 1 big hit eventually? It just seems that he is as automatic an out as anyone on the team in “big” spots.

        1. fongy2

          Thank You Stick!
THAT’s pretty much all I’m sayin’ here.
Love signing him, glad we got him back, but jeez were 60gms
in and having a real nice season, can the big FA sign who
          lead THE AL in
          HRs/RBIs and was
          the RedSox 3/4
Hitter AND who made THEIR fans
          forget Manny Win
a game or two with a well place HR or even
          RBI single???

    3. Mr North Jersey

It’s obvious that Bay is struggling but to his credit he is not taking his struggles out on the field and he is trying to contribute as best he can.

I gave him a hard time yesterday and asked to trade him and hit him 8th and some took the bait (surprisingly) when it’s obvious that was as far fetched as making Ollie the #1 starter. ;-)

I will say this though Memorial Day has come and gone and his k’s and lack of HR’s concern me. What he has still in his favor is he has shown in the past that when he gets hot he really gets hot and I am hoping the same will happen this year with him.

Yet with every passing week of waiting for him to go on this hot streak I only get more and more concerned I’d say by the end of July I will be in a full blown panic mode.

I then will start to seriously consider having to bury him a lil further down in the order but that time is not now (Thank God) so I continue to hope.

      1. trs86

What I am thankful for is that while we have not seen that sustained hot streak we have also not seen a two month period of .213, .327, .690 like he had last season.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          Let’s all be thankful.

        2. fongy2

Well we did sit through a .238-
          1hr-9rbi five
week period from opening day through
          May 7th.
          So….????

          1. trs86

Yet his months have been consistent:
            March/April .265 .378 .434 .811
            May: .303 .371 .440 .811
            June has been terrible: .280 .357 .360 .717

          2. fongy2

            Right!
            Again 3&24
            on June 9th.
So lets pic it up already JBay!
If The Mets wanted Dave DeJesus they’d have acquired him.
            Alot more cheaply!

      2. fongy2

        At worst I think Jerry
flip/flops him and Wright in a couple weeks if he doesn’t
        get going in clutch spots.
        Look, all I’m sayin’ is
if he even stood at say
6HRs/30RBIs, well placed this team could be sitting in 1st place
        right now. I mean were
paying for Jason Bay here not Johnny Gomes!

        1. trs86

And the Jason Bay we are paying for has streaks like this. That is what I keep trying to show. Did we think we were getting a consistent day in and day out offensive force? If so we did not pay attention to history. Bay is what he is. Streaky. He could have a month like he did last year and hit 10 and then suddenly be on pace for 30+ then follow that up with a month with 1 and be back on pace for 18.

          1. fongy2

            Hopefully that
will come real soon while this teamcontinues tries to
            build on a special
            season NOT in
            August
            if/when
            were struggling below .500

          2. Mr North Jersey

That is what remains to be seen is what is happening now. But if end of July he still hasn’t gotten hot you can start throwing that idea out the window and start with the what’s wrong with BAY questions.

          3. trs86

You can do it when ever you want. I will wait until the end of the season my self.

          4. Mr North Jersey

            Thank you.

          5. fongy2

You may not TRS if God forbid he doesn’t pick it up and we fall back in the Division!

        2. Mr North Jersey

I agree Bay simply is not doing what Minaya signed him for.

Some theories thrown around is that he has Beltranitis aka 1st year struggles.

Which if that’s the case stick him in a box labeled do not open till April 2011. ;-)

Another theory is the popular “he is just streaky that’s all.”

Which may be tru and for our sak I hope it is.

          1. trs86

If Omar signed him to be the consistent everyday offense threat then Omar indeed is a fool. That’s just not who he is.

          2. fongy2

Omar signed him to hit HRs and drive in Runs which he hasn’t done yet.

          3. trs86

If Omar signed him to do that consistently then he is the fool that many suggest. That’s just not Bay.

          4. Mr North Jersey

Again there is no argument Bay up to now has not earned his pay.

If anyone suggests that what he has given the Mets so far is just fine then they are in denial because it is not.

He may and I stress may get hot and make everyone forget his 1st 2 months but until it happens it remains to be seen if he will get hot.

          5. trs86

Offensively he has not had a sustained hot period for sure.

          6. Mr North Jersey

Everyone knows he is streaky but dude its freakin June 9 and we are more than a third of the way through the season. the streak to get hot is fast approaching I suppose and when it gets here it better be a torrid streak to make up for the other two thirds. I’d rather he slump now and be hot in August and September but the truth is we don’t have any clue if that is what will happen and in the meantime games like last night are what we are getting from him.

          7. trs86

You already got one hot streak from him and now you are getting another cold streak. You have had cold, hot, cold in the first 1/3 of the season.

          8. trs86

His last 28 days his average is
            .315 .388 .478 .867

That is including the last 7 days of
            .176 .222 .235 .458

So obviously there was a pretty damn good hot stretch in there some where followed by an pretty damn bad cold streak.

          9. Mr North Jersey

I feel so much better knowing that he had a hot streak already. Could you imagine how much worse his 3 hrs 24rbi’s would of looked like if he hadn’t had a hot streak yet.

          10. trs86

Yes I can. It would look like this 2 month period from last year
            .213, .327, .690.

          11. Mr North Jersey

Again let’s be thankful it’s not that.

          12. DNDJohan aka kistics

Maybe facing 3 AL teams will help Bay to get it going again.

          13. Kingman 26

Again, aside from the obviously huge HR and RBI stats, Bay is on pace for career norms or better in EVERY other offensive stat.

He is a 2-week hot streak of 6-8 HR away from his HR and RBI stats being back to normal too.

Nothing remotely close to Beltran’s 2005 in any way, shape, or form, as Carlos had career lows across the board that year.

    4. trs86

      Little more stats here.

If you took Jason Bay’s best 3 months last year and extended it to a full season he ends up with 52 HR and 154 RBI.

If you took his worst 3 months then you end up with 20 HR and 84 RBI.

There is no theory or myth, the guy is and has always been a streaky hitter.

      1. trs86

Last group of stats here that I find interesting. If you took his numbers at home and extended it over the course of a full season you get:
        .322 .413 .534 .947
        with 15 HR, 50 doubles, 15 3B, 15 steals, 106 runs and 96 RBI.

So at least it’s not the park…

  10. DNDJohan aka kistics

I know I’m looking ahead, but who’s batting DH for the next 3 series? I’m guessing Carter which should get him going playing every day.

    1. trs86

As long as it’s not Jesus, I am fine with that.
I am honestly guessing it will be based on match-ups. Tatis will get the nod against LH.

It’s also possible that they take that opprotunity to rest some players in the field.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I don’t know about you, but I would like to see Carter get the most time at DH and not the lefty-righty match up thing again. As for resting some players, I would guess you’d want to rest JBay which means Jesus will get some PT. Maybe Bay will get going again with facing AL teams like he did against the Yanks.

        1. trs86

          Possible.

        2. fongy2

          Tatis/Carter,
          Righty/Lefty.
          hitting 8th….
          Not rocket science.

  11. ceetar

The last time i saw Jesus Feliciano play ball, Beltran was healthy and on the team. I suspect Jesus gets in the game tonight, if there is a game tonight, and i’ll be there.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Ay Jesus.

  12. DNDJohan aka kistics

Tejada looked pretty good too. His defense looks solid and can get hits here and there (I liked that he went the other way on 2 of his AB). If anything Castillo’s DL stint will increase his trade value.

    1. njstuckintx

Castillo’s? Sorry, was in fantasy land for a second.

    2. GravediggerHebner

WFAN just said that with Castillo as starting 2B the Mets are 22-15.

      1. trs86

Yeah but they are undefeated with Tejada there.

        1. GravediggerHebner

i will use no capital letters to emphasize the smallness of the sample

          1. trs86

I think they both have about the same impact on the record. I can’t see how a 2B with an OPS of about .640 has much of an impact.

        2. DNDJohan aka kistics

so it’s Cora who causes all the losses.

          1. GravediggerHebner

ding ding ding We have our winner!

          2. Mr North Jersey

            So where’s the chicken dinner?

          3. DNDJohan aka kistics

too bad he’ll be here next year with his 80 appearances.

          4. trs86

I am fine with Cora being here. I just don’t want him starting.

  13. youngvalerawest

The real test for the Mets will come when Pelfrey hits a rough patch for 2 or 3 starts. Someone else will have to step up behind Johan eventually.

    1. GravediggerHebner

A rough patch is fairly inevitable. I am hopeful that the Mets will bring in some reinforcement, noteworthy or not, for the rotation from outside the organization between now and the trade deadline. But even if they don’t, so far guys just keep stepping up, maybe that will continue.

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Pelf don’t hit rough patches. He’ll go 28-1 this season with 1.03 ERA…. Stras who? Ubaldo who?
