A nice Friday night

There is nothing better than sitting down and watching baseball.  Well, actually there is.  Watching a lot of baseball.

Last night watching R.A. Dickey throw 7 innings of knuckle balls was a pleasure.  (What do we think Oliver Perez is thinking at this moment?)  And just when I thought that the Baltimore might just get back in the game our own Animal, Chris Carter, makes the game a little easier.  Y’know what made the night better?

Not just hearing about the Phillies getting pounded by the Sox.

Watching the Phillies get pounded by the Red Sox.  Nothing like a little bonus baseball courtesy of the MLB network.  If only the Yankees bought it as well, but hey, who cares about them right?  Well, a little icing on the cake is the Braves got edged out by the Twins 2-1.

So don’t check the standings, don’t get all excited, don’t start planning for the Fall Classic  because  for all I know,  the Mets can lose the next two games and the Phillies could get their swagger back and the Braves could rebound, but for now, let’s just enjoy the moment.

It was a really nice Friday Night, don’t you agree?

What makes you think Oliver Perez is capable of rational thought?

Well said. A nice way of ending a long week. It’s tough not soar with the highs and crash with the lows, but I must say there is this undercurrent of good times on the horizon. The dead wood (or most of it) has been cleared from the bench. Kid’s are contributing from all angles. Beltran playing seems less like a dream and more like a reality. The kids in the minors look like they actually have value these days.

I still know the Mets need 1-2 starting pitchers. Maine may get back, but I’ve no faith he’ll stick. Ollie, the same. RA, while I’ll take every solid outing he keeps throwing, I worry about him. Taka really needs to go back to the pen, not because he’s no good (cause he is) but rather he’s better suited for us out of the pen. Many an article and what I’ve seen with my eyes proves that to me. Could Lee or Haren be had? I’m sure they could. At what cost? Good question. Does a Millwood, Guthrie, Westbrook, etc. provide a better option, especially with Niese and Pelfrey acting all growed up? Smarter minds than mine will figure that out.

    Let’s go Mets!

I agree that Taka should go back to the pen soon. I do expect maine and ollie to be back in the fairly near future for 1 more shot at it.

I don’t actually worry about dickey staying in the rotation though.

so, based on MO, and how the trade market works, as much as I would like another SP right now, I think we will see the current group for at least another month or so.

Yeah, I can’t see anyone selling early. I can see Haren getting traded, but only for a king’s ransom. I read on MLBTR that basically anyone but Kennedy and Upton are available, even Reynolds. But like you said, probably not for another month of so.

Great read and agree with NJinTX well said. I’m looking for this road swing to be an equalizer on our road record. The Braves are getting the yearly injury bug that sweeps through their roster with McClouth and Saito on the DL and Chipper making statements that he may be headed there. If that’s the case they could go into a bad stretch and soon be removed from the top of the standings. The Phil’s well they are the Phil’s but they are starting to look old or maybe their sign stealing ways have caught up with them. Them playing the BoSox doesn’t hurt either. I’ll take it one game at a time but if we soon will see a healthy”ish” Beltran back in the mix we could be staged for a run that could keep us in the mix looking down from the top for a change. Inch closer to a .500 road record this trip and get ready for Carlos, I’m all smiles this morning.

it actually seems that the bad combination of age and injuries is what is creeping up on the Phils.

I expect at some point their offense will get back into some kind of groove, but they will continue to have pitching issues.

Should end up being a very tight race in the NL east all year.
