Hisanori Takahashi bounced back big time on the road where last time he got lit up for 6 runs in 4 innings. This time around, Taka went 7 innings of 1 run ball. Taka said through the interpreter last night that he just tried to keep the batters off balance. In a fastball count, he would throw a slider or in a breaking ball count, he would throw a fast ball. This is a tried and true strategy in baseball and it works incredibly well when executed properly, something that Taka found out last night.

Jose had a very good offensive night. He went 2-3 with a home run and an RBI. Its very cool to see almost on a game to game basis the return of the old Jose. Reyes’ average is creaping back to respectability at .262. Not only that, seems like he is getting back the muscle as he hit his 3rd homerun of the season. There once used to be a saying that the Mets go where Jose goes, it seems like that saying is getting closer and closer to becoming relevant again. Go Jose Go…
HONORABLE MENTION
Jeff Francoeur for his insurance home run
Ruben Tejada for a highlight reel play in the field
Pedro Feliciano and Francisco Rodriguez for teaming up again for scoreless relief

You think Tejada could be the key piece in a trade for a front line starter? No sarcasm here, earnestly asking.

I think his value is pointing up every day he plays. Knowing that Havens is in the wings, I’d be playing Tejada everyday to showcase him. And say Mejia, Tejada, + 2 more I think could get something to happen. Those other + 2? No clue.
But the short and sweet answer, I’d say he’s showing he can be the 2nd piece in a major trade.
And while I’d like to hold onto Mejia, flipping him for Haren would be worth it. Lee, eh… I’m very against trading for Lee on only a rental basis. Oswalt, could be had for a lesser package, so Tejada could we be a major piece for him. Knowing they need middle infield help at the major league level, he well could be a key piece there.

agreed. I’d trade Mejia and Tejada in a second for one of those pitchers. And I’ll tell you something, if they keep playing like this, I wouldn’t be opposed to Lee, considering they at least try to re-sign him next off season. You add Lee and we have a shot at the WS.

I’m still against it at the moment, only for my fear of mortgaging on the future to roll the dice on one year. But, I do see the point of the Met’s being close and making a run for it by adding Lee. Santana, Lee, Pelf, Niese, DickeyTakaMaineWhoever is a pretty solid 5. Especially with Pelf stepping it up this season and Niese surprising many with his stuff.
At least there are those 2 draft picks that would come the Mets way if he walks.

I think even more important that the rise in Jose’s BA is the corresponding rise in his OBP, especially now that he’s back in the lead off spot. He’s finally got that over .300 recently and let us hope it continues going up toward the .355 he’s put up over the last 4 years. If he wants to blow past even that and keep going up I won’t complain.
