The Sunday Question

Today’s question will be regarding Interleague play Since the Mets are in the midst of it.

What is the BEST and WORST aspect of Interleague play.  You can address your answers using the Mets in mind or without them.  Hey, it’s the Sunday Question, not the SAT.

I hate it because it promotes a unbalanced schedule

Ditto. I’d rather see us play a few more games against our older National League rivals that now reside in the Central Division. ie – Cub’s, Card’s, heck even throw the Pirates in to balance it. This is probably just me being old from remembering our division rivals from my youth. These were like my natural rivals for the Met’s growing up. I’d even cut back 4 games from the matchup’s with our current NL East foe’s and add that with the games eliminating Interleague to accommodate a slate of Central Division matchup games.

I don’t mind interleague play as much as some do. I agree with Rusty about the unbalanced schedule. I think there’s too many inter league games though. The 6 with the Yankees are fine – everyone knows that generates big $$.

Interleague was exciting the first couple years, but it’s just another bunch of games that mess up the schedule to me now. I’d rather see a few more series with NL Central/West teams.

You all pretty much covered it. I just don’t like the way the schedule plays out, such as in recent years the Mets would play 6 games vs. the Yankees while the Phils would play 6 vs. the Orioles. At least this year they have to play the Red Sox 6 times. Overall just too much inequity. The goal of an NL team is to win the NL pennant en route to the WS, and I would prefer the opportunity to beat NL opponents on the way there.

I also strongly dislike the concept in which if someone is traded from the NL to the AL or vice versa their stats “don’t count.” Why? With interleague play there is little point to wiping out prior stats. There is also little point to an NL and AL Cy Young & MVP & Rookie of the Year, if interleague play continues it would seem to make sense to eliminate individual league awards. Also league batting champs and HR champs, stuff like that, make little sense. But I’d rather just eliminate interleague play.

If my favorite team is going to play the Yankees I want it to be in October (or November), not May & June.

    you all covered it.

    worst is the schedule unfairness.

there is no best, unless you happen to want to see some AL team that you normally not have a chance to?
