David is good, though I don’t think strikeouts and caught stealing are offensive categories. You certainly make a good case for voting for David. Maybe you can drop a link for the All-Star.

    1. Mr North Jersey

I actually would rather he not play in ASG.

      1. oleosmirf

when was the last time a player got hurt in the all-star game?

        1. Mr North Jersey

Why are you asking me that?

          1. stickguy

tyring to figure out why you don’t him to play?

          2. Mr North Jersey

I unlike others would rather have him and many of the Mets just get away from it all for 3 days. The exception would probably be for those that have never experienced what it is to go to an ASG.

If they go that is fine but personally I’d rather they not.

    2. Mr North Jersey

Agreed on strikeouts and caught stealing. I added them in the interest of fairness for those that will come by and say well he is also still is amongst the leaders in strikeouts and threw in caught stealing because it was there.

    3. stickguy

just based on these numbers, you could certainly make a better case for Zimmerman.

but NJ, why not play? he won’t be in the HR derby, and it really doesn’t seem like he needs rest right now!

He has certainly pulled his season back up to more than respectable.

  2. DNDJohan aka kistics

His Ks have been under control lately. I think he might be back to his old form again. But then we shall see over a longer period of time.

  3. stickguy

    more amazing?

The 30mill 3B across town appears a grand total of once. ANd that is #7 in runs, the catagory that probably has the least to do with his own performance!

    1. prismo

      *obligatory steroid joke*

    2. Mr North Jersey

Well in BA ARod is 8th with a .290/BA Wright is 11th with a .286/BA. In Hits ARod is tied for 10th with 65/H Wright is 13th with 64/H.

Those were the only 2 categories where Wright didn’t finish in top 10.

  4. ceetar

hmm, looks like I got myself a comment deleted on Metblog? either that or I didn’t properly post it and didn’t notice.

    1. Mr North Jersey

It has to be the latter why would you have a comment deleted now after all this time?

Unless you said a naughty thing.

      1. ceetar

I don’t think I said a naughty thing..it was a rather sarcastic comment asking how much they paid the draft guys.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          :-)

          1. ceetar

because obviously, if the Mets didn’t give these guys boatloads of money it’s a disaster.

  5. Kingman 26

Excellent work once again Mr N!

Wright might finally be 100% back from the Cain beaning.

Regardless, even a diminished Wright is better than almost any other 3Bman.

The guy just does a little bit of everything you want in a player, never gets in trouble, is obviously a caring and thoughtful citizen, and WILL be the leader of the Mets’ next title team, which will be no later than 2012.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Thx King for the compliment.

      1. Kingman 26

You have been doing a spectacular job in keeping relevant and excellent content on here just about every damn day, and I for one sincerely appreciate it.

I have been way too busy lately, but will have another piece within 1-2 days….might be a bit of a surprise, but I think you will enjoy it!

      2. fongy2

        b/t/w, I agree with
        your AllStar comments.
I’d rather our guys stay home and relax for a couple days in the middle of the season than have them fly all over, be involved with dopey things like HR hitting contests and get one
        AB in an exhibition gm.

  6. gipperpdx

Wright is (and has always been) the LEAST of this franchise’s problems. I’d watch for that 2B number to climb soon too!

As for the ASG, I am just fine with David having a break….though he and/or Zimmerman deserve the nod…the ASG has long since stopped being about the truly most deserving players.

  7. fongy2

    David Wright??!!….He stinks!…..
    Damn Choker!…..Trade Him NOW!!!…
Break up “The Core”!!….Get Wiggington back to play 3B!…..
    Now THERE’S a Scrappy Ballplayer!

    1. gipperpdx

      LOL Where are those folks?

    2. Kingman 26

      :-)

    3. Hazmet

      Re: Wiggington
      U spelled crappy wrong, it doesn’t start with a “S”. ;)

So Wright on Wright, just quietly keeps doing his thing until ya turn around and the numbers are large

  8. DNDJohan aka kistics

    Interesting article by Heyman.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/jon_heyman/06/14/oswalt.lee/index.html

Sounds like the Mets are the only team that can afford/need Oswalt. But can the Mets pull the trigger? I really think that the Mets can almost pull off the steam without giving up much prospects. Problem is do the Mets have enough $$ to take on his salary?

    1. stickguy

well, unless the Ranger deal is a reality!

The MEts are also far from the only team that could use another good SP. Not sure though about how many an afford him, but it really is 1.5 years (plus his buy out, if there is one, or the option year if he requires it be picked up to OK the deal).

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

So based on Cot’s Baseball Contract..

Remaining $$ on his contract is amount owed this season ($15M whole season, so we’d be looking at around $10M) plus $16M (2011) and club option $16M with $2M buyout in 2012. So if he struggles next season or we see something we don’t like, the team can opt out.

And also Oswalt can opt out of 2012 for less buyout as well.

  9. prismo

Just want to say…Oswalt’s last three starts:
    2.1IP, 4ER
    7IP, 6ER
    7IP, 2ER

    1. prismo

      Haren:
      8IP, 0ER
      5.2IP, 3ER
      8IP, 2ER

      Lee:
      8IP, 1ER
      9IP, 2ER
      7IP, 3ER

      1. njstuckintx

        uh oh, Lee’s trending downhill!

  10. Hazmet

I’m watching the Bison’s and lo and behold while I’ve been off on business travel the past few weeks Nelson Figgy became an Iron Pig. Why do I find that name somehow fitting after his post Met dissing. I shall now forever know him as “Figgy the Iron Pig”. Some Pig…

  11. metsfan4decades

David Wright quietly racking up the stats so far this season. That should quiet the nay-sayers…

I have absolutely no problem with DWright going to the ASG and I’ve voted for him several times. I’ve heard him comment several times he believes it to be an honor (and yeah, I know it’s more a popularity contest than anything else), he enjoys it, he has fun and says it’s not the same pressure filled seriousness regular season games are. Given the fact that he’s a single kid with no family obligations, has worked hard his whole career and wants to go, who are we to decide for him he should have a 3/4 day rest instead?

Others I have no idea what their situation is – can only comment on Wright.
Barajas, even though he’s got six children, has been quoted lately when asked about the possibility of being voted on going this year, that he’s not going to lie, he would very much look forward to it. And yes, I voted for Barajas too several times. His and Molina’s stats are close, with the nod IMO going to Barajas right now.

I also believe Pelfrey deserves the honor as well.

  12. metsfan4decades

So the Mets have an off day and with no baseball to watch, as I don’t get the handful of games being played tonight, I’m reading instead.

Ran across this from a poster on FWICG.com on the Health Bell ‘I’d consider a trade to the Mets’ post:

    Patrick June 14, 2010 at 1:03 pm

‘Being that Bell’s WHIP is higher than Frankie’s I don’t see how his 9th innings have been any less stressful.
Bell has in fact only pitched 5 clean 9th innings this year. Only 2 of his saves have come without allowing a base runner.
Frankie? 8 clean 9th innings. 6 of his saves have come without allowing a base runner, and one of those was a 5 out save against the Cubs.

    Perception vs. reality’

This one is for our friend TK in the dugout. Suffice it to say KRod is not his favorite Met….

  13. CaseStreet

Hmm, seems like there will be a good 2B trade market this year. some names floating around are Kelly Johnson, Ricky Weeks and Ryan Theriot. Wonder if Omar REALLY wants to replace Castillo.

    1. stickguy

who is this Castillo of which you speak?

I have no idea if he will ever come back. But while I doubt it is high on the to-do list, if a good 2B drops in his lap, I am sure Omar could be talked into it.

But, I thinkthey are staying with the off season plan (let the farm have another year to evolve as much as possible), and target selected upgrades if they are in it.

Well, they are for sure in it. but, there is not an unlimited amount of trade chips. So even if they could get one of the 2B, unless they came for nothing (salary dump), the trade chips will go toward pitching, if anywhere. And there is still no guarantee they trade for a SP anyway, with Maine and Ollie still floating around.

      1. CaseStreet

Actually, I don’t think 2b is a “problem” this year, especially if pagan will continue to bat 2nd. But yeah, gotta figure out sp first.

  14. Hazmet

F-Mart just absolutely obliterated a Grand Slam to win it in the Bottom of the ninth in Bison Land. One of the hardest hit HR’s I’ve seen in sometime. Catch it if you can, prodigous.

    1. Hazmet

Follow up: For any of those familar with the Bisons stadium – it appeared to clear the back bullpen fence in RF and landed halfway between that wall and the Parking Garage across the street. It also came after he wasted a bunch of tough pitches including a fastball on the outside black that was behind him, a great at bat.

      1. ceetar

nice. I’m semi-familiar with the stadium having walked by it a bunch of times, never actually caught a game though.
