During the SNY broadcast, Ron Darling said that a pitcher knows when he has turned a corner when “a pitcher has his best stuff, his team wins. When a pitcher doesnt have his stuff, his team has a good chance to win and when a pitcher has nothing, he keeps his team in the game”. Pelfrey had nothing today but found a way to keep the Mets in todays game. The Mets gave Pelf a 5 run lead that even after a very rough 1st inning, never relinquished the lead. We are witnessing nothing short of a pitcher turning the corner into an ace this season with Mike.

HONORABLE MENTION
Jason Bay with a 4-4 game after a slump where he was 0-16
Chris Carter for hitting another 3 run home run
Alex Cora for his 3-4 game with 2 RBI’s
Jesus Feliciano and Jose Reyes for their 2-5 game
Ryota Igarashi and Raul Valdez looking like their old selves with their scoreless innings of work

What? No MUA’s for Warthen and HoJo? I am flabbergasted.

I have to say, while being befuddled and dumbstruck from time to time, I’ve never been flabbergasted. What’s it like?

Dumbstuck, Dumbfounded… I may have been flabbergasted and never have known. Thanks for the literary education.

This game was a lot of fun but got old fast. Just like the Mets, Baltimore got scorching hot when they arrived. I was melting the entire game.

saw this on Toby’s minors blog. ope it is just something minor, cause I have Kirk Pencilled in for 2012 opening day (at the latest) when Beltran has taken his knee act elsewhere.
- Mike Silva reported on his twitter that Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who left Saturday’s game early after making a catch, and did not play Sunday, may have hurt his shoulder. More as that story develops this week.

What do you guys think about Heath Bell saying the Mets would be his #1 choice if SD chose to go another way?
Seems strange to me since he doesn’t seem to like the organization. He does say NY is the baseball mecca and he wants to play in the spotlight.

I thought he hated the Mets.

just setting up for his next contract. omar has a rep of overpaying for closers.

Maybe we could sign him as the closer and then trade for soria and banish Heath to the 8th inning role. He’d love that.

at omar closer rates he just might.

also, D-Backs meeting about their poor start. there’s speculation they’ll consider trading Haren.
tough choice btn Haren, Lee and Oswalt. Haren will cost the most prospects but is the youngest and has the cheapest contract. Oswalt will cost the least in prospects but has the most expensive contract. Lee, I’d imagine is somewhere in between.

hard to know what they each cost (talent wise), since it is 3 different GMs. Seattle did give up a bunch of 2nd tier crap to get Lee, though they are probably expecting to make a killing on the upgrade, but I don’t think it is happening.
I like Haren the best. Not big on trading top prospects for a rental (lee), though you should recoup a couple of draft picks, but with the way the Mets draft now, not actually that valuable potentially. Certainly not as beneficial as almost ML ready prospects you aleady have.
Oswalt I think is a time bomb waiting to go off. I just hope he doesn’t explode on the Mets.
Haren is the best of the bunch IMO. If they take Mejia as the centerpiece, with a couple of B prospects (hell, send them Tejada too), then I am all for it.

Yeah haren seems to be the best bet but I’d be happy with any of the three.
