What is interesting in this video is that Tim claims a Mets player believes Wright has not been the same since getting beaned in the head last season. Something that Wright clearly denies has played no part in his early struggles.

well, wright was way out of whack last year before he got beaned. And he has a histroy of having slow starts (50 games or so). Therefore, not really that surprising. ALthough one of the TV broadcasts was talking about how it appeared he was flinching, but seems to have gotten over it. Hope that is the case. anyway, for someone with a mental block, he is still doing OK!
and please leave me out of his “we”. I am on record here before the season started as saying I thought they would win about 90 games, and be competing for a playoff spot (although maybe just a WC). So, for now, I feel vindicated.

as do I. A win and either a Braves, Padres or Dodgers loss puts us in the playoff picture!

oddly, right now it seems that the division might eb easier than the WC, but plenty of tiem for that to change.
gonna be a fun season in the NL east!

Well if memory serves me correct I have to be honest and say I hoped not expected that they could be competitive but with so many question marks what they would be was and still is hard for me to predict.
The only thing I guess I truly expected was for them to be better than last year and at least be .500 and if things broke the way Minaya had expected that they could compete for a Wild Card with a chance at more if they could pull of a late season trade. So far I can’t complain

Agreed. I was expecting 82-84 wins, but they’ve gotten to the point where they’re making anything about the team too hard to predict. So far so good, though.

I’d have to go back and find the post, but I believe I went around 84 wins too.
Everyone who had around 90 is congratulating themselves, but the season isn’t even half over yet!
Anything can happen. The Mets were well above .500 around this time last season too, and we all know where we were in September.
Not to be pessimistic or anything…I’m loving what’s happening.

Agreed, though for them to tank and not win 80 games, I’m thinking it’d require either another surge of injuries or a bunch of guys underachieving.
Still a lot of huge question marks right now (how will the rotation hold up, will Bay get his power back, will Wright stay hot, etc), so the team is making things very hard to predict. I’m not complaining, though

I was at 82-85 with Jerry and 88-92 with Bobby V was how I stacked it up. I’m presently surprised at where they are and the team seems to play hard for Jerry. He may drive me nut’s and not be my prefered choice but he’s got them 9 over .500, they play for him, and he know’s when to get out of the way when the team’s on a roll right now. So a begruding hat tip to the Manager and my apologies for as little as they’re worth.

So now it’s 88-92 with Jerry and 98-102 with Bobby V.

In fairness, it’s easy for the team to be better than the “experts” thought when those idiots were all predicting 70-75 wins and a 4th or 5th place finish. Even I’m not THAT cynical.

i predicted the Mets would be a 78-84 win team b/c i thought the bullpen was bad, a questionable rotation and Reyes, Wright, Beltran were coming off poor/injury laden seasons.
while Ollie and Maine were terrible and the bullpen is not so good but Dickey and Takahashi came in and are pitching lights out, Niese and especially Pelfrey has surpassed my expectations and Reyes and Wright are back in form.
While i expect Dickey and Niese, and maybe Pelfrey to a much lesser extent to come down to earth a bit, I have raised my expectations to an 85-89 win team.
I think that if we get a setup man and a top flight starting pitcher, Ollie and Maine stay out of the team and a healthy Beltran in the lineup, we will make the playoffs…

I don’t believe I predicted how many wins they would get to, but I know I said I thought we’d be competing all season. Maybe not the division – as I believe I predicted 2nd, but thought the WC was 100% doable. My pessimism revolved strickly around the SP, namely MOP….
