The Yankees struck back after the Mets won the first game of this interleague series by taking the final two games, capped off by a 4-0 shut-out Sunday afternoon over their crosstown rivals. CC Sabathia stumped the Mets through 8 innings, and probably would have gone for a complete game if not for a 22 minute rain delay in the 8th.
The Mets seriously threatened to score twice off CC, once as Ruben Tejada led off the 6th with a double, and again in the 7th as the Mets got runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, but failed to even advance Ike Davis and Jason Bay.
Meanwhile, Johan Santana continued to not quite be his old self, surrendering four straight hits capped off with a grand slam by Mark Teixeira in the 3rd inning. Although Johan looked shaky most of the day, these were the only runs he’d surrender, ending up pitching 6 solid innings…save the one big hit.
Mariano Rivera came into the game in a non-save situation in the 9th and got the Mets out in order to complete the shut-out. The Mets finished the day with only 4 hits, and lost the series with the Yankees two games to one. The Mets return home to face the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, hoping to continue their success at Citi Field.

Darth CC!
Santana was victim of the Longball. He fought through it but The HR was the nail in his coffin (obviously).
CC pitched well hat tip to him.
Bring on Detroit. Lets start another winning streak.

just a frustrating way to do it, but you are right.
9 over, and done with interleague road games. Will take that.

Hey, Johan gave up less hits than Halladay did today.
Bobby O said on the post game that Johan is not getting the strikes up enough on lefties and he needs to. Said he’s just a little off, nothing to worry about.
Whew…..

That’s all right. We’ll see them again in October.
Hope the NL wins the All-Star game, though.

Well played Mr. Prismo, well played.
Didn’t love losing the last 2 games but definitely love a 7-2 road trip.
