This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty : The ” Hey You Can’t Win ‘Em All ” Edition 06-20-10

Like William Shakespeare once said : You can’ win them all.” I t would have been nice for the Mets to have won yesterday, but let’s face it – going into yesterdays game we knew it was going to be a low scoring, high frustration kind of game. Mike Pelfrey with the exception of two hiccups (one to Mark Teixeria, the other the game decider to Curtis Granderson) pitched a very good game. But unfortunately Phil Hughes was better yesterday. He was able to keep the bats of Jason Bay, David Wright and Angel Pagan at bay while he cruised through several innings of work. But at least Jose Reyes is showing that his power is returning, blasting his fourth and fifth homer runs of the season. So for anyone that is devastated by yesterdays outcome, and the fact we are now a dubious game and a half back of the Braves ( sarcasm) with still more than half a season to go , I give this advice – Get a grip !! The Mets have gone 7-1 on this road trip so far , and I remember when some people said they’d be happy if the Mets went 5-4 ! Well we exceeded expectations and even if the Mets lose today they at the very least tied the season series against the Yankees – which is generally the case almost every year. So our second eight game winning streak has ended. Lets hope Johan can put us back in the win column and we can start a ten game winning streak !!! LETS GO METS !!  And a Happy Father’s day to all you Dad out there !!

And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!

” Jerry Manuel & Dick Gregory – Separated at Birth?!?”

New York Mets signed free agent pitcher,Dennis Musgraves on June 20, 1964. Musgraves would pitch extremely well out of the Mets bullpen. In five games with the Mets, he had a e.r.a of 0.56, striking out 11 in 16 innings pitched. But he suffered a shoulder injury, and would never pitch for the Mets again.

New York Mets released first baseman,Dick Stuart on June 20, 1966.

New York Mets released middle reliver from the ’05 team, Mike DeJean on June 20, 2005.

And the Mo Vaughn tidbit of the day – He could beat C.C. Sabathia in a eating triathalon !!!

wow, some people here said 5-4 would make them happy? That is low standards!

7-2 certainly not bad, but it just hurts to start out so good, and lose the last couple.

        Yeah, my Dad did.

But then again, he hasn’t been objective about the Yankees since they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in the WS for about the 54th time in 1956!

Wow, maybe Dick Gregory IS Jerry’s long lost twin!

And from certain angles, I was really thinking Phil Hughes looked a lot like Daniel Murphy.

And yes, this trip was really good even with a loss today.

Yesterday’s game was indeed just a couple of pitches, and JBay’s DP grounder was huge too.

While I do hate to quote Glavine, no, I was not devastated by yesterday!
