did not listen to this, but I am guessing that he knows too that whatever benefit there was to hanging with the boys in the pen has been fully tapped, and that to continue developing, he needs to go down to start.
could have just as well done it a few weeks back, but not that big of a deal, as long as they did not drag it on any longer!
I love his confidence, but humility at the same time. Saying that AAA may be too hard for him to really be able to work on his stuff, and that his breaking ball needs the most work if he were to become a starter in the bigs. But also saying that he’ll be back in the majors, and sounding sure of it.
Also…Angel Pagan stepping in to translate a couple questions was pretty funny.
I sure the hell hope he is not the next Kazmir. That means we are trading for Zamby part 2. Either way, amazing how many people are down on a 20 year old. Guy could easily compete for a SP slot next season.

I’m not down or up on him. Kind of hard to say whether he’ll be a great SP, he’s been a once a week reliever. Let’s see how he does in AA. Hopefully well.
I don’t think he’ll be competing for any SP slot next year. Even if he isn’t traded, how many innings of work can he get this year? There’s no way he would get a SP slot with the Mets and not have had more experience/innings starting.
At best, he’ll be the 6th or 7th option, kind of like Niese last year.
Good for Mejia. Sounds like he did learn a lot up here – realizes he’s not going to blow fb after fb by major league hitters up here for strikes all the time and he’s got some work to do.

Sounds like Mejia could teach Ollie a thing or two!

I like the fact that the kid was smiling and at least on camera looked at this as a positive step in his development.
“I’ll come back,” Mejia said. “… I think I did my job. I don’t think they sent me because I didn’t do my job.”

He could be the next Kazmir for all I care. By the time he is, most of the current team would be gone.
