TMZ is reporting that they have obtained a copy of the report filed with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on October 28, 2009 that states New York Mets Ace Johan Santana was accused of sexual battery that allegedly went down on a Florida golf course.
It is important to note that the prosecutor concluded, “There was not enough evidence to prove lack of consent, the alleged victim’s statement is not consistent with other witnesses.” The case was closed out on December 8, 2009.
WFAN is reporting the Mets will issue a statement soon addressing the incident.
***Warning*** The police report is not suitable for small children due to its graphic description of the incident.

Well in all fairness it would be hypocrisy if it was ignored. I mean the Mets will issue a statement so it is affecting the Mets enough that they feel the need for at least a statement.
I did my best to be fair and note that the case was closed.

Hey, Brett Myers was never convicted of anything, but many posters here deem him unfit to wear a met uniform. Just want to make sure everyone is consistant.

There is a stark difference between cheating on your wife and beating/raping a woman.
I’m certainly no fan of cheaters, but at least no one is physically harmed. It’s basically equates to being a huge d-bag (which most atheletes are – can’t keep it in their pants).
But beating or raping a woman is in a much darker realm.

While many people believe that saints and angels play sports in the afterlife, I hope no one is naive enough to believe that sports on earth are the exclusive province of saints and angels, they are not. One does not have to root for or respect these non-saints and non-angels but one cannot presume they don’t exist, even on their favorite teams, even in the uniforms of their favorite players.

Largely agree with Grave and Prismo.
Most of these guys long ago lost contact with the real world.
As the Roethlisberger example clearly illustrates, as well as countless others (the Cincinnati Bengals franchise for example; OJ; Ramon Castro….), these guys think they can get away with things because they CAN get away with things.
On the other hand, sometimes it is clearly a case of someone trying to trap an athlete and make money off of him. Let’s hope it is the latter here.

I hate TMZ, have always hated all these celebrity news/gossip shows, websites, magazines…
Well….When I read Strawberry’s last book, he was careful not to get too detailed but what went on with ballplayers from that era was something most of us could never relate to. ‘More temptation than you can resist’ type of mentality, and not just with the drugs that were available either. From what he insinuated, the women were actually more plentiful than the drugs.
I have no idea what is true, what is not with this story but I’ll bet there some basis in fact to even have been falsely accused of something. I can’t help thinking it can’t be something as innocent as a handshake and an autograph was given and some attention grabbing you-know-what tried to turn it into something else.
Whatever…time to move on.

It doesn’t matter, he has a personal life and a professional life as we all do. Just because he’s a ball player doesn’t mean that all of his personal issues should be out here for everyone to know. Look at the NFL, you see players getting into crimes all the time. You don’t need to be nice to play a professional sport, just good at it.

When you grow up, among other things you MIGHT learn, is that consensual sex and RAPE are very different things.
Ben Roethlisberger raping a drunk college girl and Tiger sleeping CONSENSUALLY with anything without a di** are very different things my little friend.
And MOST rich pro athletes don’t have to rape or assault to have all the women they want.

And since I had WFAN on to hear the statement they would release about this story…
This hour’s discussion with Francesa seems to be mostly Mets. Mainly, Lee and Pagan.
According to MF, Pagan will get limited playing time when Beltran returns, he’ll sulk and be unhappy and might upset the chemistry of the team.
MF’s opinion on Lee is they’re going to want like Niese and Mejia. See….I just don’t get that. Neither Philly nor Seattle gave up a top prospects for Lee. What makes him more valuable this year? Is it competition from several teams driving up the price?
Jerry will be on WFAN in a few minutes….

Neise is no longer a prospect at this point. he has “graduated” to being a member of a ML rotation, which is a vastly more valuable asset generally.
Neise and Mejia for a rental is absurd.
And MF is just making up the part about pagan, probably because he figured it would get Met fans the most riled up.
Frenchy should face as few RHPs as possible. Pagan is overall a better player. Why is it so hard for MF to understand?
Oh wait. Jerry making the calls. Forgot to weigh that into the equation…
metsfan4decades
6/23/2010-5:20pm at 5:20 pm (UTC -4)
Listening to Jerry and MF….Francesa is trying to get Jerry to lay out the plan for when Beltran comes back. Jerry said he didn’t really think Pagan was this good of a hitter (or words to that effect) and he was wrong. Said he’s got some very big, clutch hits and he’s been consistent all season. Said he’s a very good young player. When Beltran is getting ready to return he said he’ll make sure his OF knows what will happen, what will be expected, I expect in hopes to ‘dispel’ this notion of pouting MF keeps throwing out there….
Jerry also singing the praises of Dickey. Said he knew nothing about knuckle ball pitchers but he loves that he never backs down, never says die. He also can change the speed of his knuckle ball which is not something he’s ever seen before. Said it obviously adds to his success and he hopes he can keep right on doing it.

Pagans gotta play over Frenchy. To me, there should be 2 options (in no particular order). 1. Play Pagan everyday
2. Platoon Pagan and Frenchy L/R. It’s bad enough we had to watch GMJ steal Pagans playing time. When is Jerry gong to realize that Pagan has arguably been our MVP, and that Frenchy is way too streaky to play over Angel.

as much as we like to envy these athletes for being able to have almost any woman they want, it must be very difficult to stay faithful to someone when you have all these temptations really throwing themselves out you.
mix in some alcohol (not saying that was a factor here) and you get some regrettable decisions.
the fact that she went and watched him play tennis afterwards is pretty obvious that nothing criminal happened. just another woman/girl trying to get her 15 minutes and some cash. Well I wasn’t even going to comment on this but after reading the report now I’d like to read the Contract. Any morality clause type language in that sucker? Probably not, which I find unfathomable that you pay someone 150M Large without one. And yes, I do actually believe if you pay someone that ammount of cash it also “comes”, sorry, with a large obligation to represent yourself in a certain manner during it’s duration. I bring this up not so much as some great moral play as the world’s moved beyond that I believe today but as a matter of: if Johan’s velocity is down and he regresses to the back 9 of his career earlier than they thought, do they look to void the contract based on this incident? I think not, but just throwing it out there.
Lastly, unrelated: sort of – I just recently returned from a business trip where one of the coworkers from another division conveyed the story of running into a famous golfers caddy in a restaurant/bar and the caddy asked my friend “do you want to meet him?”. Of course the answer was yes. He went over and said hey …… this guy’s a fan. The golfer went to shake his hand but first had to pull it out of the croch of the 20 something year old beauty sitting next to him. My friend was revolted and awed all in one at the glistening hand offered to shake. And yes this is a name PGA tour guy. These guy’s live in a different world, but it still doesn’t make what Johan’s reportly done acceptable.

She said that she understands the temptation, and at least this way she’d know about it.
That’s not really a marriage I’d ever want to be a part of, but who’s to say Johan and his wife don’t have the same arrangement?

Agree totally, but the question is if Johan is in decline, which I don’t believe: do they try to use this as an excuse to void the contract and safe the cash if there’s a morality clause. Strictly a business question, finding a contractual weapon to use to save cash if internally they’d be concerned about his stuff.

Wrong as HELL about Dickey and Jerry and Warthen.
RIGHT about Ollie and Maine’s ST results, Matthews, Jacobs, and lots of other things, but hey Chief, you know me well enough to know I always keep an open mind and will always change my mind when events warrant it.
And yes, I was wrong about Dickey, but I have been and remain an Omar supporter, so can I get some indirect credit there as Omar signed Dickey??

My feeling is play Pagan against righties, Francoeur against lefties, and 1-2 days a week rest Beltran and play Pagan and Frenchy.
That was, everyone stays fresh, Pagan and Frenchy’s splits maximize their production, and every day we have a fine pinch hitter and great defensive replacement/double switch guy on the bench.
How about that?
If not, really must choose Pagan right now. But I do like Frenchy. He is streaky, but hustles, is a fine fielder, and clearly is a great chemistry/clubhouse guy. Plus, I hear he loves grunge.

Maybe it’s that I work for a Fortune 500 company and there was a Director who had a minor indiscretion in the Far East that was a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 vs. this and about 30 seconds after he landed stateside he was fired. Company ethic thing. And the question was not posed around the act it was around a business tactic which you did address by stating the union wouldn’t allow him to sign such an agreement. That I agree with. However, when tossing around contract numbers of that size you never know. After all doesn’t A-Rod have a No-Steroids Clause in his contract as reported by Fatcessa? The union signed off on that knowing they should have absolutely never agreed to such a thing. So, you never know. And it has nothing to do with cheating on his wife. It has to do with maintaining an image for the company/organization you work for. One of the touted things discussed when Johan was signed was he was from a town in Venezuela that was known as “the town of gentleman”. And all I heard was how he raised the image of the organization and that was another reason for justifying the largest contract awarded by the franchise. Therby the question, which you’re answer involving the union makes sense. Also, the fact that it didn’t even raise to the level of further investigation by the authorities thereby they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. Anyway, just looked to stir debate. Thanks for playing.

6/23/2010-11:00pm at 11:00 pm (UTC -4)
LOL. Yeah you are welcome. I just can’t see a contract including maintaining the image yet saying that cheating is not. That would be HARD to police in athletics.

Pagan with muscle spasms. He said not a DL thing. Bobby O said that’s the best case scenario. With the heat and some dehydration, it’s very possible.

As far as a lock for the next couple of years I will just wait and see what unfolds. It has been a great 6 starts but let’s keep things in perspective.

But being serious, you know it would have to be hard to “catch” on to a knuckle ball pitcher. He could practically say “Here’s the KB, hit it if you can” and it would not matter if he was on. Hitters don’t catch on, the pitcher just has a bad night.

6/23/2010-10:36pm at 10:36 pm (UTC -4)
That’s what I’ve been reading. And from what they’re saying, the key to RA’s success so far seems to be that he has the unique ability to change speeds on the KB as well.
Whatever works, keep right on doing it Mr. Dickey.
