Kirk Nieuwenhuis shoulder ended up in a sling back on June 13 after he made a diving catch in left-center the previous day. At the time a Mets official said Nieuwenhuis suffered a shoulder strain and should miss two weeks.
On Wednesday it was reported that Nieuwenhuis was placed on the seven-day disabled list retroactive to Friday and Nieuwenhuis was quoted to say that he could be back “by the weekend or Monday.”
His manager Tim Teufel said “He feels better each day. It’s not as painful, so I think he’s coming along real well.“
