Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Scott Baker (6-7) took the mound for the visitors in the rubber match against the New York Mets today and went only 4 1/3 innings, surrendering 6 runs on 11 hits, 6 of the extra-base variety, as the Mets won the game 6-0 and the series 2 games to 1.  The Mets are now finished with inter-league play having gone 13-5.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 4th.  Ike Davis singled to center leading off and 2 outs later Jeff Francoeur homered to deep left making it 2-0 Mets.

Wright & Davis back-to-back

Wright & Davis back-to-back

In the bottom of the 5th the Mets broke it open.  With 1 out Jesus Feliciano, who had 3 hits on the day, hit a pitch down the left field line that bounced into the stands for a ground rule double.  David Wright homered to deep left and it was 4-0 Mets.  Davis batted next and also homered to very deep right near the iconic Shea Bridge.  It was the 2nd instance of back-to-back homers in 2010 for the Mets and both times Davis has been involved.  The prior time Rod Barajas joined Davis in going deep.  Jason Bay then tripled to the 415 foot mark in right center, the 1,000th hit of his career, knocking Baker from the game.  Barajas greeted reliever Andy Burnett with an RBI single for the eventual final score of 6-0.

Jon Niese (5-2) recovered nicely from his previous rain interrupted outing by throwing 6 shutout innings for the Mets today.  Elmer Dessens, Pedro Feliciano and Bobby Parnell each threw a scoreless inning to finish up the shutout.

Rookie Ruben Tejada singled in the 4th inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest for a Mets rookie since Jason Phillips in 2003.  Next the Mets head to Puerto Rico for a series against the division foe Florida Marlins.

Haha! I get the Hanson Bros reference!

    :-)

Great homestand, 2 series wins against very good teams, and on to FLA and WASH.

5-4 in the 22 game march to the break; let’s see 10-6 this time next week.

HAHA! I actually LOVE the early Gram Parsons Flying Burritos. Their first three albums were really good, and their very first, The Gilded Palace of Sin, is a classic.

just keep pounding out 2-3 every series, and win a bunh of games.

And once again, they are in positin to move back into 1st (assuming the Braves did not make a miracle comeback today!)

1/2 game back…patience my friend; this team is clearly going to reward it.

Talk about reviving your career – ala William Shatner…

Just an update: SNY postgame reporting Mejia left the game with right shoulder stiffness.

Nies looking good since he came off the DL.

And the offense…..pretty good up and down the lineup. Love how everyday it’s contributions from different guys.

We take yet another series. Onto P.R.
