Male Mets fan demonstrates his pleasure with this victory
Leading 5-1 entering the bottom of the 9th the New York Mets used 3 relief pitchers that allowed 4 Washington Nationals baserunners who scored 2 runs but closer Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 19th save with the tying run on first base by picking Roger Bernadina off at second base with Met killer Willie Harris at the plate to end the game, preserving victory for Jon Niese (6-2) who threw 117 pitches over 7 innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 8 in leading the Mets to a 5-3 win.

"Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected."
Once again the Mets took an early lead on the road. In the top of the 1st Ruben Tejada was hit with a pitch by Nats starter Luis Atilano (6-5) with 1 out. Tejada then moved to third on a single by David Wright and scored on a ground out by Ike Davis giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.

In the 4th the Mets made out like Clinton in the Lincoln bedroom
In the 4th the Mets broke it open. Wright led off with a double, then Davis and Bay drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with none out. Rod Barajas hit a fly to center but it was too shallow to drive home Wright. Jeff Francoeur then hit a liner to short and there were 2 outs, bases still loaded. Mets fans stood up to head for the refrigerator as Alex Cora stepped to the plate. But the beer run was delayed as he hit a long fly just too high off the wall for right fielder Mike Morse to catch and it turned into a bases clearing triple and a 4-0 Mets lead. Even more shocking to parched Mets fans the starting pitcher Niese doubled to shallow left driving in Cora and knocking Atilano from the game. Reliever Joel Peralta ended the inning without further damage but it was 5-0 Mets. Josh Willingham led off the bottom of the 7th with a solo homer making it 5-1 Mets and it stayed that way until the stomach-churning 9th.

Thank you to the great men and women that preserve our freedom and independence.
I’m off until Monday folks so Happy 4th of July and Lets go Mets!

Well said.
What’s not to like about Niese and Tejada?
Niese once again, giving all the credit to his good game to Barajas. For those fussing about Barajas bat coming back to earth or only throwing out 3 out of 44 or so base runners, you still have to like his ability to work with some of these pitchers and call a good game.
Kudos to Alex Cora and his one big hit.
Anyone else never want to see KRod coming into the bottom of the 9th with men on base? Since he hardly ever goes 1-2-3 and is usually good for putting a man or two on base, I certainly didn’t like that call. I think he should have come in after Pedro got Dunn out.
But a win is a win. Good, crisp baseball and a hell of a performance from Niese.

Maybe time to stop the praises for Jerry, that was a terribly managed Bottom 9.
Just saying…I hope the Jerry police don’t come and get me.

LoL Jerry said in postgame he was hiding when Tejada got last out at 2nd. I am sure it was in jest but it was funny 2 hear him say it.

too bad Castillo makes too much money so we have to make the team worse in order for the Wilpons to “get their money’s worth”

It’s very unlikely that it makes the team worse, but Tejada definitely looks good. Occasionally unpolished, and still very suspect as a hitter, but we’ll certainly see what happens.

last note I saw said that slappy was progressing slowly, and not really close to beginning a rehab stint. So does not sound like anytime soon.
maybe they can just forget all about him for the rest of the year.
