  • In the combined 9 walk off losses they pitched a total of 9/IP 0/R 0/ER 2/H 3/BB
  • 3 of the 9 games the Mets were trailing when the inning started.
  • 1 0f the 9 games a starter pitched the 8th
  • 4 of the 9 losses were decided in extra innings.
  • In only 1 of the 9 games did the Mets have a lead when the inning started
  • 1 0f the 9 losses occurred during a day game.
  • Of the 9 losses 5 different pitchers each recorded 1 loss with the remaining 4 losses all being recorded by Pedro Feliciano

What does this all mean? I have no idea but maybe someone else can make something of it. :-)

The pattern in these games clearly indicate none of the guys who pitched the 8th gave up any runs that contributed to the losses. So in these cases, the guys got the job done.

With Jerry managing the BP, I don’t know that we’ll ever see a true set up guy. He never sticks with just one guy long enough to know if we’ve got anyone who can be anointed in that role. Since he never tries anyone long enough, how do we know someone already in the BP can’t get the job done?

Scratch Feliciano off that list too as Jerry basically said in the post game last night, he tried Pedro, it hasn’t really worked out against righties, he’ll be back in the role of a lefty specialist.

Also I should of added this bit of info. Of the 9 losses 5 different pitchers each recorded 1 loss with the remaining 4 losses all being recorded by Pedro Feliciano in innings that he obviously pitched after the 8th inning.

the reason Jerry doesnt trust any of them is b/c none of the guys on the team have any track record as a setup man.

i mean who do u want him to use?

  2. oleosmirf

lefties bat .357 against Dessens and righties bat .309 against Pedro.

Igarashi and Nieve have been inconsistent so that leaves Parnell, a rookie.

I dont blame Jerry at all for not having a set 8th inning guy and even if Takahashi goes to bullpen, we still dont have one.

Well, add this kick in the balls loss to the discussion. ugh.

  4. Hazmet

Make it 10. And I’m now officially sick of K-Rod. Francisco Benetiz or whatever.

  5. Hazmet

It is about to get real ugly at Citifield for K-Rod, for his and everyone’s sake I hope he get’s it together fast.

  6. tkfj2

K-Rod is a POS. Stop betching about everything and worry about yourself POS. Go away and take your bs with you. You are not worth the money. Not worth the money.

    1. Hazmet

You just said everything I was restraining myself from saying. How f’in sad is it I’m sitting here wishing for Wag’s in comparison. I need to go do something to forget this putrid finish. I’ll first hide the sharp objects.

      1. tkfj2

I’ll take Wags 100/100 over K-Rod, should rename himself K-Me. Keep playing for the name on the back of the jersey.

  7. fongy2

    Indeed!…Make it an even 10!…
Ugly!…Ugly loss!….Using KRod 4 times in 5 days ties into why you
hold off and DON’T pitch “Just to get him some work” in Puerto Rico!…
Also, I know Jerry would have been 2nd guessed and KRod would have been
insulted BUT I thought immediately of using Feliciano with Dunn coming to the plate. Further, can JBay come up with a big late hit to drive in a couple runs and put the game away??
My be premature BUT it may be time to start gettin’ a little nervous!…
6-8 in the last 14 since the shutout against the yankees. Not good!!…
Should be creating some room b/t us and the phils while they’re all hurt
AND at the same time pressuring the braves!….Such a different team w/o Reyes in the line-up!

Do you plan on using Reyes in the pen? K-Rod was about to blow yesterday’s game if not for the pickoff. The gap between the Mets and Braves is widening. And before anyone cry about the injured players consider that the RedSox are making a run of it with 10 players on the DL.

      1. metsfan4decades

Injured players? I don’t believe that’s remotely a problem. Long term DL guys – other than Beltran – aren’t concerning anyone. Pagan missed a little over a week only. Hopefully, Reyes follows the same track.

    2. metsfan4decades

Whether it’s too early to get nervous, it’s certainly not too early to be pissed. They absolutely cannot keep giving these games away. KRod needs to find it and find it quick. I’m just afraid that might not happen. It’s not like it’s a couple of games now with him. He’s been putting guys on at an alarming rate, even for him.

    KRod…..
I started getting annoyed with him about 2 weeks ago. Enough with the dictating how much work he needs, how much work he doesn’t need, blah, blah, blah. His problems have nothing to do with how under/over used he is but rather on his pitching period. How about he just shut up and come out and get the job done?

What ever he’s doing wrong, he needs to figure it out and figure it out quick. This is WAY too many walk off losses and it can’t continue.

Watching post game, Bobby O feels he’s picking too early in the count. He’s constantly falling behind and that’s not gonna get it done. No brainer there….

  9. njstuckintx

Whether or not we agreed with the decision, we knew that this is what we should be expecting from him. Pepto shots all around. I hope he shaves that Gorton’s Fisherman beard and starts fresh, cause what he’s throwing now ain’t doing it, that’s for sure. Frustrating for sure. But I’m going to have a beer, maybe play some cards with the family and think straight on this tomorrow. 1 game does not a season make, but it does sum up a bunch of what’s been happening, that’s for sure.

And as Fongy stated above, Krod should not state how much work he needs or not. Jerry has to step up and be a man. A general even. This has to be his ship and all his sailors need to heed his word. I’m not turning this into Jerry’s fault, just pointing out that he needs to take this and shove it into Blown-Save-Rod’s face and let him know this is his ship and his alone.

To date the Mets’ season reminds me of the good ole days on the Coney Island Cyclone Roller Coaster. I guess if there is any consistency it’s that the team has been weak on the road and strong at home. But getting back to the Cyclone Roller Coaster the Mets are going through a difficult stretch but if the season continues in the same fashion then good times should be straight ahead.

    NJ:

What this means is that Jerry has no idea what he’s talking about and none of us should be surprised at this point.

  12. wannybackstra

Excellent work, by the way, on the whole series of 8th inning posts.

  13. DNDJohan aka kistics

This loss is on KRod and KRod only. He likes to strike out too much that’s why he rides the tight rope all the time. It worked when he can throw 95-96mph and blow by the hitters. But he doesn’t throw 95-96 anymore. He does have good stuff to strike people out. But he has to realize that if he doesn’t have his stuff like today he can’t blow by hitters with his FB. He has to learn to make outs in other ways. Whether it is FB or GB outs, he has to be more efficient.

    1. oleosmirf

K-Rod did have an ERA under 2.00 going into the game.

  14. oleosmirf

say what you want about the 8th inning but not one guy we have can do a full inning on a consistent basis.

  15. stickguy

it mrsnd jerry has no clue what he is doing or talking about.
