Man Up Awards For The Week

SUNDAY

No wonder the M’s wanted this kid in a deal for Cliff Lee. As the months get hotter, it seems Niese just gets better. Establishing that cutter earlier on in the year has paid off as its his deuce that now has become unhittable. Niese knew exactly what he was doing coming out of the gate and its working. Niese went 6 innings of 4 hit shut out ball, collecting 5 strike outs in the process. Its kinda hard to believe that he sports a 3.48era(at the time) but im sure the Mets can believe that he has earned those 5 wins.

“He had to ruin the show. ” Francoeur said. “He crushed that. He’s got stupid pop. I told David mine went farther, David goes, ‘Mine went out faster,’ and then we both watched Ike hit and we said, ‘Well, we’ll shut up now.”’

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Jesus Feliciano went 3-5

Elmer Dessens, Pedro Feliciano and Bobby Parnell for shutting the door

WEDNESDAY

On a night where the Mets were facing a sweep and their “ace” was not at his best, K-rod was. The Mets offense gave everything they had to not get swept and Frankie closed the door on the Marlins in 1.1 innings of work for his 18th save. His save also denied the Marlins a sweep in Puerto Rico and allowed the Mets the salvage something from this trip. Booze and beautiful women im sure are two kryptonites to ball players(and most heterosexual men) and those were two that are plentiful in Puerto Rico. Messed up the Mets pretty bad in two games but thankfully Krod nailed down the third for this team, which ironically he most likely will celebrate with booze and beautiful women lol.

The essence of manning up. Josh Thole came in with runners in scoring position with the game tied and delivered a pinch hit single to put the Mets on top. Alot of people question why do the Mets have 3 catchers on the roster still. I do  not have that answer but if Josh can deliver in that type of situation, I dont mind if he sticks around a bit longer. Not to mention the knowledge he can receive under Rod Barajas and Henry Blanco at a Major League level…also wont hurt to increase his trade value by showcasing how awesome he is. Stocks are up people!

HONORABLE MENTIONS

David Wright 2-5 with 2 RBI’s

Jason Bay and Ike Davis driving in a run apiece

Jesus Feliciano 2-5 with an RBI

Elmer Dessens for his *cough, cough Vulture cough cough* win

The man has won his 5th straight decision in a row…nuff said

As it almost seems to be a strategic move to put the Mets in a bases loaded situation, Alex Cora finally cashes in on the opportunity. Alex hit a 3 run triple that accounted for the majority of the Mets runs. Now I know a .230 avg is not the strongest argument against people who do not like Cora and I have given up trying to convince them otherwise but in my humble opinion I dont think he has been that bad. The guy is a Major League level replacement in the inevitability that Luis Castillo or Jose Reyes go down this year(check and check) and he is a pretty smart guy. He is earning 2 million and is close to having his option vest but frankly as I was explaining to one of our dugout guys TK, Alex Cora does not write his name in the lineup card. Alex Cora did not put a vesting option in his contract. Alex Cora just goes out and plays…something that will earn him some doe if he continues to do it well.
