The Sunday Question

Before we get to today’s Question here is one thing you must do today.

If you can, put the Met Game on either the radio or T.V, grab yourself a beverage of your choice and toast to America.  If you are lucky to be surrounded by your family,  friends or just the background of Howie Rose or Gary Cohen look around and appreciate the American Dream because Ladies and Gentlemen;  only in America can we live the life that we do.  Happy 4th of July!

O.K, that being said here is today’s question:  Do you think the Mets can be a playoff contention team with K-Rod as it’s closer?

I don’t think the Mets will make the playoffs, but it will be on the entire bullpen, and their puppeteer, and not just the closer.

If it is a matter of Francisco (which I will now call him until he reclaims his K-rod-ness) being the yeah or nay on the Mets being playoff type material, my answer is yes. Granted his last few starts have been less than desirable, but he does have the stuff. Now, if he could just put his head on his shoulders and not up his anus.

I think they can. Closers blow games, it happens. Last night was epic but one way or another, no closer is a lock for the 9th…except for probably mo but still even he has blown some games. Im not a huge fan of krod but we could be worse…

K-Rod is the least of our problems…

despite the overachieving, thats not a playoff bullpen we have right now.

      I agree.

Happy 4th of July to all my fellow Met fans.

Yes, I think we can be a contending team with KRod as our closer. That being said, he needs to figure it out and do it quick. I believe Frankie is smart enough and competitive enough to do just that. I sincerely hope he stops using the excuses of ‘not enough work to stay sharp, or how he might be getting up and down in the BP to hide behind.

I’ll give him credit last night on Post game for standing up and taking all the blame for the 9th inning. He said he’s going to get it together, come out throwing strikes and get these guys out. He’s probably lost some confidence at this point. We’ll soon see just what Frankie is made up of.

Nah. after last night, and giventhe fact that we will have jerry the sabateour in charge, I no longer think the team will be bale to make a run and beat out philly and Atlanta.

save the farm too. don’t bother to unload it for Lee.

That’s giving up way too early. Reyes will be back soon. Beltran will be back soon. We should be getting another SP. Those that are injured – of the Maine/Ollie/Castillo type, are not hurting the team at all being on the DL.

Atlanta will be tough. Phills? not so much. They’re no longer the ‘elite’ team in the NL east. They’re older, broken down and those that aren’t…well not many are getting the job done. And it’s been going on long enough now, 6 weeks – where I don’t think it’s just a slump….

hey, I am the one (about theonly one) that said at the beginning of the year that this was a 90 win, playoff contending team.

I just can’t see a team “managed” by jerry not shooting it self in the foot. And K rod is really not giving confidence.

Reyes should be on the DL already. He should not do anything but rest and ice until after the ASB. I really think he is going to try and come back too soon, and tear something. SO 50/50 he is out until mid-august.

and Betran does not exist until he starts a few games for the MEts and can still walk. You cannot, under any circumstances, count on him for anything.

maybe I am wrong and they salvage a split today, but I expcect them to get lit up like fireworks, and roll over and die. Then jerry will say more stupid things.

they still have a chance to wise up and fire this guy now, even if it will upset kingman!

Well, I couldn’t agree more about Reyes. Same with Pagan. What is the point with that type of injury of not putting them on the DL? Jerry’s mindset is Reyes is too valuable and can still be used for pinch running and defense. Bah…With the ASB coming up, just give the injury the full rest it probably needs and chances are it won’t be a nagging thing all of second half.

I don’t see any way they’re firing Jerry right now 9 games over .500. The time to have done that was over the winter, or possible by mid May. They let that window of opportunity go by. I’ll bet dollars to donuts, like it or not, Jerry’s here for the rest of the season…..

9 games over 500 hundred can be 2. Games over 500 by the break dump this joker -I don’t care if they lose every game till the end of the year jerry go on.

        2. njstuckintx

Hah! Kingman, in all his reactionary glory, will have to re-revise his opinion of the General yet again. I always thought he was blinded by the light of the winning streak. I will say that the bullpen is pretty bad, but a bad bullpen combined with a bad bullpen manager is, uh, a bad combination. Like cheap mexican food and doing shots of exlax. Not the best o’ combos.

With or without krod this team is not winning 90 games nor are they going to the playoffs. krod is a heart attack type closer he always has been and he will blow more saves before the year is up and you know what so will mariano rivera. Beltran returning is a joke until he is lighting up single A pitching he should just stay there. The big thing now is reyes and as reyes goes the team goes Im starting to think this guys a little more hurt than we were led to believe and the met machine doesn’t want hurt the ticket sales again so they leave him on the roster and hope after the break hes right ,here we go again. Another year in met land.
