Sabermetrically Challenged? Help Is On The Way

Well it does but not as it relates to baseball!

Well it does but not as it relates to baseball!

Anyone who has ever read anything I’ve ever written about the Mets knows that sabermetric analysis is not my strong suit.  I’ve spent a great deal of time and made quite an effort over the last 18 months or so in an attempt to educate myself on the subject to no avail.  Well the days of me trying to figure it all out for myself are over.

Proprietor Eric Simon and his fellow authors at Amazin’ Avenue, inspired by some comments made on air recently by New York Mets play-by-play voice Gary Cohen, have decided to offer their services in spreading knowledge of sabermetrics to the uninitiated.  Soon they will be producing and publishing a series of articles that could perhaps be considered Sabermetrics 101 and intent on no longer being completely ignorant on the topic I’ve registered at their site (it’s free) to take part in any resulting discussion.  If you would like to learn more about the subject from some fellow Mets fans there may not be a better time and I encourage anyone interested to check it out.

Jerry left Johan in last night.

Which shows, again, that, like most successful people, Jerry learns from his mistakes. And, like most successful people, Jerry is open-minded and humble enough to alter his actions to improve himself and the team’s fortunes.

PS–I bet $50 on the Mets against Strasburg, and felt like a conquering hero when it was 5-2. Oh, what a rancid loss. They Mets were +165, so that $50 should have been $132.50. But I still don’t blame Jerry.

Yes, it only took him what? 4? 5? times of repeating the same mistake until he thought “Gee, maybe I should leave my ace pitcher in the game.” And he still needed Johan to confirm this.

I think it was dozens of times actually; maybe hundreds even.

Well I was thinking of just times he should’ve let Johan pitch the 9th.

I’ll take a look. I’ve got a lot to question about them.
