According to Pro Rumors the New York Mets have made a pair of international signings, bringing outfielder Vicente Lupo and infielder Leon Jackson Canelon into the fold.
Nick Collias of MLB Trade Rumors notes that the two will begin their professional careers with one of the two Mets Dominican Summer League teams.
For those readers fluent in Spanish Lider en Deportes has the story.

Let’s hope to hear more from them soon.
On another topic I keep wondering of what the Mets will end up doing to try and address their pitching situation.
Seems like some believe the Mets may just not be able to pull off getting Lee. I guess plan B would be Lilly but if Lee ends up in Minn. wouldn’t most remaining teams then focus on Lilly also?
The point being of teams looking at pitching if the Mets fail to land a Lee, Lilly or Oswalt what would be the next level of pitchers they would desire?
Is it a Sheets?

Is it Carmona?

Or someone else I have yet to mention?
Do they then stand pat?
Just throwing stuff out there.

Myers or Westbrook could work too.

Read this at MSNBC.
“Brian McTaggart of MLB.com tweets that scouts from the Dodgers, Phillies, Rays and Mets are in Houston today to watch Roy Oswalt pitch against the Pirates.”

Well they saw him at his best. Yeah it was against PIT but he tossed a CG SHO 1 hitter w/ 8 K, 2 BB.

Bah, but he’s old and gets shots for his back 3 times a day and 4 times on days he pitches…

Seriously, you probably have more insight than most of us on Oswalt. Is his health really a concern? It just seems like his mild struggle was only last season due to injury, but healthy now.

He’s a smallish framed pitcher who will have injury concerns like Pedro did/does. But, Pedro fell apart at 35. I can’t see Oswalt falling completelyapart until then, which is after his contract is complete. He definitely is on the back side of his prime, but I can see maybe 1-2 15 Day DL stints for the duration of his contract, including the option year. The back problem he’s had, if memory serves, isn’t really correctable, but just a matter of him dealling with the pain or getting a shot or 2 throughout the year (I can’t confirm all that, being in Internation Logistics and not Sports Medicine). He’s normally healthy, pitches through pain and has the mental toughness to deal with the crap. He won’t be “the man” in NY, as Johan is already that.
I would snag him in a heartbeat. Just cause he’s been around and pitched well for so long it seems like he’s 102 and on death’s door mat. He’s worth shipping Tejada, Fmart and prob. Gee or another SP prospect, and I wouldn’t doubt if they cover some of the salary costs. For a number 2 with his track record and being under control for a few years… Sign me the hell up!

Again.. where’s the dotted line?
I really think that the only reason the Mets are not seriously pursuing him is the money issue we’ve been hearing.

I know he has a herniated disc. Short of surgery to repair it, that never goes away. However, from what my orthopedist tells me, many are walking around with herniated discs and don’t even know it.
The level of pain associated with that problem varies from person to person. Just no way to gauge it….

I don’t want either one of those guys. If the Mets wanted Sheets they could’ve signed him they didn’t. I’d be surprised if now they surrendered prospect(s) to get him. I’ve never trusted Carmona, basically 3 crappy years interspersed with 1 1/2 good ones. He is young (26) so hope is he’s putting it together but if I’m the Mets looking to acquire a guy who I feel strongly will put me over the top into the post season I just don’t think it’s him.
As to your Lee/Lilly point if I’m the Mets I determine what my “best offer” to SEA for Lee will be and and offer it up ASAP. If they hedge or want more than my best, I move on to another target such as Lilly without waiting for the Lee domino to fall.

I agree. But I would consider Oswalt before Lily.

I sincerely hope standing pat will not be the decision.
We have no starting pitching depth. And I’m not counting Perez or Maine as depth….

well, Omar and the FO sure as heck count Ollie as depth.
I don’t think they count Maine as anything but a crapshoot to maybe show up later in the year.

I want lilly, and ASAP.
waiting another month for Lee, maybe, will be a negative for July, plus you may get sut out entirely.
if they want lee that bad, say here’s the offer, take it now or it is gone, and so are the Mets.
I also like Myers. Can also help in the back end of the pen.
