Cliff Lee will not be traded to the Yankees…..for now

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal of Cliff Lee to the Yankees has fallen through.  The Mariners have concerns for the health of  2nd baseman David Adams.

The Texas Rangers are making a push for Cliff Lee.

UPDATE

Rangers officially get Cliff Lee and reliever Mark Lowe in exchange for Justin Smoak and three others

The Cliff Lee saga is over, thanks for playing Mets…or not really…whatever…

The Texas Rangers are going about things in a very interesting way.

They are in a pending sale situation and therefore unable to take on any salary, so in order to balance their financials they have to send better ranked prospects than otherwise in trades, as they recently did in acquiring Molina from SF.

So now to get Lee from the M’s they are allegedly going to include the highly regarded Justin Smoak in a deal.

I hope for their sake that the new owners have some prospects left in the system when they take over.

Sounds like Reds are going after Lee pretty hard as well. I’m not sure where Omar is on this.

Perhaps Omar gave final offer on the table and not willing to revisit it. I’m very curious to see what the offer is. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was some really low ball offer like Thole, Tejada, and some pitching prospect that we’ve never heard of.
