Beltran To Bat Cleanup This Thursday

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York is reporting that Jerry Manuel said he intends on batting Carlos Beltran in the cleanup spot when Beltran returns to the Mets lineup this Thursday vs the San Francisco Giants.

Manuel thought of batting him 3rd but did not want to disrupt the hot hitting David Wright.

Last year in a limited number of games out of the 4 spot Beltran was hitting,

Hope Jerry doesn’t mess this up.
How great is it to get a healthy Beltran at the AS Break?
Now if only Ollie could somehow show a shell of his good self and replace Taka in the rotation.

Unfortunately if they find themselves 6 out it may be too big of a hurdle to overcome. Assuming they don’t come back in this game tomorrow’s game becomes critical.

Although, I don’t want to see them wind up 6 games out going into the ASB, I don’t think 6 games is insurmountable with 2 1/2 months to go.

Nothing is insurmountable when you control your own destiny, as the Mets do.

    As per mlbtr
Ed Price of Fanhouse.com comments that the Rays didn’t want to give up any significant prospects for Lee (via Twitter), while the Mets simply didn’t have the caliber of prospects that Seattle was looking for.  Price notes, however, that Jeremy Guthrie could be on the Mets’ radar screen.
The Mets could use this Lee deal as a guideline, however, tweets ESPN’s Buster Olney.  The Mets could follow the Rangers’ example and try to get a trading partner to add money into a deal, since Olney reports that New York won’t be able to add to their payroll before the deadline.
    Ugh
btw I’ll be back writing tomorrow

With Big Pelf reverting back to his old self and with Reyes apparently aggravating his injury perhaps the Mets should forgo trading any prospects and build towards next year.

4 hits today going into the 9th.
Beltran can’t come back soon enough. Here’s hoping his bat follows him back as well.
