Post game: Braves 4 Mets 0

Mike Pelfrey started for the Amazin’s today and had Tim Hudson as his opponent as the Mets tried to draw even in the final home series before the All-Star Break.

Both pitchers had men on base in the first inning and both teams failed to score.  In the top of the second, Pelfrey, who clearly did not have his best stuff, managed to get out of a bases loaded jam.  In the first two innings alone, the Braves stranded 5 base runners.  The bottom of the second inning saw Chipper “don’t call me Larry” Jones fail to field a grounder through his legs hit by Rod Barajas, although it drew a lot of cheers from the crowd, the Mets failed to drive him in.

Pelfrey worked out of trouble again in the third  but managed to strand another  yet Brave base runner.  In the bottom of the Third,  Angel Pagan continued to stay hot as he hit a double into  center field but was stranded.  It looked like Pelfrey’s luck ran out in the top of the fourth when the bases were loaded with Braves and no outs, but Prado hit into a double play and Melky  Cabrera  hit a grounder to Ike Davis.  Tim Hudson answered in the bottom of the fourth when he made quick work of the Mets.

The Braves got to Pelfrey’s in the top of the 5th when the Braves scored 2 runs  and forced in him out of the game with only 93 pitches and 12 hits(all singles)  Elmer Dessens came in with the bases loaded and no outs and quickly got a double play but Tim Hudson got hit double and scored 2 more runs.

Takahashi would come in for Dessens and would pitch scoreless frames for the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings .

Pagan led off the bottom of the 6th with what would be his  third hit of the game.  After a Reyes strike out and a David Wright walk the Mets had a chance to get back into the game…that is until Ike Davis hit into a double play to end the threat.  The Mets never came close to scoring again.

On a special note, Jose Reyes came out in the top of the 7th after throwing out a Brave.

Tomorrow, the Mets look to try to grab at least one win from the Braves as Johan Santana will take the mound.

As I wrote in the last thread
    As per mlbtr
Ed Price of Fanhouse.com comments that the Rays didn’t want to give up any significant prospects for Lee (via Twitter), while the Mets simply didn’t have the caliber of prospects that Seattle was looking for.  Price notes, however, that Jeremy Guthrie could be on the Mets’ radar screen.
The Mets could use this Lee deal as a guideline, however, tweets ESPN’s Buster Olney.  The Mets could follow the Rangers’ example and try to get a trading partner to add money into a deal, since Olney reports that New York won’t be able to add to their payroll before the deadline.
Ugh Westbrook ! Maybe the mets are low on funds ( sar asm)
btw I’ll be back writing tomorrow

    Ugh….

6/8ths of the lineup not hitting just is not gonna get it done. Anyone not named Pagan and Wright just can’t be counted on right now. I’m hoping Beltran brings his bat with him next week b/c the offense definitely needs it.

Reyes….I know I’m repeating myself but he should have been on the DL a week ago.

Just watched Pelfrey’s interview on the post game. He says it’s a command problem. He’s leaving pitches up, he’s not getting ahead in the count. They tried to get out of him just why that is these past 5 games or so, but he didn’t have much of an answer. Now that is not encouraging.

Here’s hoping we can salvage one game tomorrow.

He was also squeezed by the ump

Yeah, many of those pitches could have gone either way.

He sucked. He’s been sucking for past 3-4 outings. The league has figured out his splitter or he’s tipping pitches like Santana.

Jose says on post game, he’s still going to the ASG, he’s still gonna enjoy the experience, but Jerry said they’ll be sending a note with him on his condition and probably won’t play.

Is that like a note from your mama? LOL.

I know it’s an honor, I know some guys really like going, but if he can’t play, just what is the point?

There were some rumors in the twitterverse today about the Mets opening the 2011 season in San Juan Puerto Rico against the Marlins. If I’m Jose Reyes I am wondering why the hell my organization is considering returning to the place where I first got this ongoing injury.

Because the Mets love the smell of $

If there is a positive to take out of this twack to the crotch, Takahashi out of the pen is a good thing. Be it Oswalt, Haren, Westbroke, Guppie, er, Guthrie or any of the others out there, we could use another starter. Unfortunately I get the feeling that a move isn’t going to be made until they try out Ollie once more…

I personally think the mets lose credibilty if the Mets let Ollie pitch again and he gets lit up

Well, you’re assuming the Mets have credibility. They’ve fired their manager on the west coast in the middle of the night, they’ve botched DL decisions time and again, their overseer of minor leaguers rips his shirt off and challenges people to steel cage death matches, reports on Minaya’s negotiating tactics sound like he doesn’t have a clue (not that shooting for the moon isn’t a bad idea, with Santana as evidence), the whole Maddoff nonsense, Jerry and his bouts of verbal diarrhea and they play second fiddle to another NY baseball team so they’ll always be little brother to big bad brother… I think they have farther to go in gaining some credibility than they are to having none (as how an organization should be run).
