One All Star leaves as another returns. Such is the life of a Mets fan. Jose Reyes departed in the seventh inning after fielding a grounder on the outfield grass and throwing to first base retiring Troy Glaus.
After the game it was confirmed that Reyes would miss the All-Star Game. Tony Jackson of ESPNLosAngeles.com reported that replacing Reyes would be Rafael Furcal on the NL All-Star roster.
It was reported that Mets officials have insisted Reyes could do no additional harm by playing through the injury. After today’s events that may be put in question.
Below you can listen to Jerry Manuel and Jose Reyes speak about the injury.

Whew. At least they were smart enough not to let Reyes go to the AS game. Unfortunately, I’m thinking this is going to be a 15 day DL trip.

It should have been a DL stint in the 1st place IMO. All this batting RH against RH crap was dumb. I get that during a long season almost all players play at less than 100% but if a switch hitter can’t hit from one side it seems to me that player is at 50%. I don’t want any pro athlete playing at 50%. Had he gone on the DL the day he first missed a game he’d be due to come off on Thursday, the day the AS break ends. Facepalm.

Agreed. Just. Plain. Dumb.

Even if he could do no harm playing with this injury, the prescription for this from what I understand is rest to heal it. So they should have just done that when after 4/5 days, it was apparent it wasn’t getting much better.
Glad to hear he’s not going at all. After the game, both he and Jerry said he would still go, participate in all the hoopla, but probably not play. I thought that kind of dumb, as what would be the point?
On another note, Red’s Wood had a perfect game in the bottom of the ninth when Philly finally got a hit. Too bad the Reds don’t have any runs either. In the 10th now. Go Reds!

I’m trying to figure out exactly how to type the sounds of exasperated befuddlement as to how f’in stupid playing Reyes with this “tweaked” oblique was this week. Then batting him second when we know how he feels about batting outside the lead off spot, wtf. As much as Jerry can explain the merits of Pagan leading off while Jose’s less than optimal just doesn’t matter to me if it’s going to mess with the catalyst on the teams comfort level. Basically, he’s already trying to play hurt, now, play hurt and out of your comfort zone leading off, good luck kid. Only this team could find a way to cast a pall on the close of a first half that far exceeded this fans expectations.
Earlier I read where I believe Njstuckintx cited Metsblog Baron speaking of Reyes open to moving to second base. After seeing him throw with this oblique injury this week if that is accurate that scares me even more if it means Jose is looking for the shorter throw because he feel’s he can’t make the throw from SS while working through this thing. That too me would indicate this is far worse than a tweak and who knows how batting lefty would work out. Just 15 day DL him now and bite the bullet.
Looking for the positive I see TRDMB has reached 90 fans following. Cool.

Yeah I missed this when MLBTR published it yesterday afternoon:

I’m shuttering at the thought of opening this but like a moth drawn to the flame…. I must. Here’s to hoping our ace bailes our a$$ out and gets us back to 4 out at the break.
Thanks for the link.

Sorry for the shuttering.
If you think 90 facebook followers is sweet try on 254 twitter followers! Each time I write another childish “Dickey” headline 254 people question their choice.

I got a kick out of some of the comments on the MLBTR post. Some looking for the Mets to trade Reyes, some ranking him as an irrelevant talent. Really laughable stuff on many fronts, one or two sane comments. It’s interesting how many fans who don’t follow the Mets don’t realize what a force Reyes is when he’s healthy and hitting on all cylinders.

If the DL starting tomorrow, he’d be eligible to return on the 26th, with that being an off day. Theoretically, he’d only miss that first 4 game series after the ASB. Just do it, already.
