Post Game: Heading Into The Break On An Up Note

See ya Thursday!

See ya Thursday!

Mets starter Johan Santana (7-5) exhibited further evidence of his being a second-half of the season pitcher by continuing his torrid July with his third consecutive quality start.  In 23 July innings this season Santana has allowed 1 run on 14 hits including today’s 7 shutout innings against the division leading Braves.  Bobby Parnell threw a 1-2-3 8th and Francisco Rodriguez tossed an all-too-rare 1-2-3 inning of his own to notch his 21st save ensuring the Mets sole possession of 2nd place in the NL East over the All-Star break.  Mets first-half MVP runner-up Angel Pagan, who had 3 of the Mets 13 hits, tripled with 2 outs in the 3rd inning off of Braves starter Derek Lowe (9-8) and Alex Cora singled him home with the only run Santana would need.  Ike Davis added insurance with a solo blast beyond the home run apple above the center field fence leading off the 6th inning.  In the 8th inning pinch-hitter Josh Thole drove home substitute left fielder Jesus Feliciano with a single for the Mets 3rd and final run.  New York Mets 3, Atlanta Braves 0.

this certainly was needed. Glad that I didn’t get back from NY after Saturday’s mess!

wow, Reyes was in pain after a deep throw from in the hole. How did no one see that coming (oh wait, many of us did, it was just the braintrust that didn’t worry about it!)

Bummer for him to miss the ASG, but hopefully 4 ful days of rest and treatment (if there is any) will get him back good to go. and if not, put him on the DL please!

Another brilliant performance by Santana stops the bleeding. It helps the team enter the ASB with a positive attitude and with the Braves pitching you don’t want to fall too far behind them.

Missed yesterday’s game – which apparently was the only one worth seeing in this series.
Glad to see Johan with the back to back dominant starts and Ike get a couple of hits.
