I’m no Yankee fan but I always enjoyed the sound of his voice and his unique style. Growing up as a football Giants fan I enjoyed his work at Giants Stadium. He and former Red Sox public address announcer Sherm Feller (who employed a similar slow enunciation emphasizing style) are my two all-time favorites.
I was at a Red Sox game in which Billy Hatcher stole home for them and Feller calmly carefully got on the mic immediately afterward and said “believe it” which has always stuck with me.
Loved his voice at Giants games…all class all the way. I was at the first Yankees home game after Cardinal O’Connor died, and the Yankees let Shepard (who went o Mass daily and was close with O’Connor) do like a 8 minute eulogy of O’Connor. It was very touching, even to this lapsed Catholic.

He’ll be missed. Like Rusty said, a class act.
