David Wright Always A Hit In The All-Star Game

"I'm heading to South Beach to join LeBron, Bosh & Wade!"

New York Mets third baseman David Wright has an uncanny ability to get 1 All-Star game hit every year, will that trend continue tonight?

July 11, 2006 – At PNC Park; Wright’s 1st All-Star game; started at 3B for the NL, batting 6th; 1 for 3, solo home run off Kenny Rogers in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie the game at 1-1.

July 10, 2007 - At AT&T Park; started at 3B for the NL, batting 5th; 1 for 3, single off Justin Verlander in the bottom of the 6th.

July 15, 2008 - At Yankee Stadium; reserve for the NL, entered the game in the 8th inning as a pinch-hitter for DH Albert Pujols, struck out looking against Jonathan Papelbon; finished 1 for 3 with a single off George Sherrill in the top of the 13th inning.

July 14, 2009 - At Busch Stadium; started at 3B for the NL, batting 6th; 1 for 2, single off Roy Halladay in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Other than Wright getting exactly 1 hit in each of his All-Star game appearances the common thread is that his team, the National League All-Stars, lost each of these games.  Here’s hoping Wright helps the NL turn that trend around tonight.

(Note to Charlie Manuel:  as soon as you take Wright out of the game, I’m changing the channel.)

We’re going to need home field advantage.
I’m calling it now, a Subway World Series – A decade later!

Do you mean it will be sponsored by a bacon and steak melt sandwich or that Jared will claim to have lost weight by eating sandwiches with olives on them?

      eh, Yankees aren’t making it.

I hope you’re right. I’d rather face the Red Sox than the Yankees.

I see us facing the Cards, then the Phils and finally the Yanks.

Mets win in 6. Lock it up.

Yankees have a shot, the Phillies do not.

I’m still thinking Rays in the AL though.

Nats? What league are they in? Atlantic?

the way the Yankees have been playing because of their pitching + lineup + small ass stadium almost guarantees they’ll be there at the end.
I’m not discounting the Phils until they’re 10 out. I know they have injuries and pitching issues, but it seems there replacements are stepping up. Like WTF are Schneider and Valdez doing hitting walk offs?

I don’t know, but don’t expect it to continue.

Besides, the Mets are due for a killer west coast road trip and own the Diamondbacks at that place. (hmm, where have I heard that before?)

I don’t care what anyone else thinks….I think the Phillies have been very lucky thus far this season.

            Schneider? Valdez? Exactly….

    Love the Note to Charlie.

It’s only been 2 days and I’m going through baseball withdrawal already. I’ll be watching the whole game.

Annoying was Loud Mouths this evening discussing how interesting it will be to see who Gerardi picks to bring in as his closer. Say what? They’ve already got the AL as having won this game? Bah….

      re – last para.;)

This 3 days off seems like an eternity already. I’m actually watching a forensic analysis of King Henry the VIII health degradation on Nat Geo. Man I’m boring….

If it makes you feel any better when the NL took David Wright out of the game I turned to a Biography Channel documentary about “Family Ties.”

        Woooooo! NL! Wooooo!
